Jose Mourinho had a good time with Chelsea last season, easily winning the Premier League and Capital One Cup. But the club has not played as well this campaign and now Mourinho has to face a manager who gave him one of his worst defeats a few years ago.
Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s new manager, was in control of the Borussia Dortmund team who eliminated Real Madrid in the 2012-2013 Champions League semi-finals, ending Mourinho’s chance of bringing the trophy that Madrid fans had been asking for in what would be his last season at the club. Real Madrid eliminated Borussia Dortmund the following year but Mourinho was no longer there, he had made a move to Chelsea.
Start To The League and Recent Problems
Sources say Mourinho’s time with Chelsea could come to an end if the situation does not get any better. The Blues are currently in 15th place, 11 points behind Manchester City and Arsenal, who are tied for first place. Things got worse a few days ago when they were eliminated from the Capital One Cup by Stoke City. The start of the season has been really bad for Chelsea, who many had as a favorite to win the Premier League title after dominating the competition last year, losing just three games and finishing eight points ahead of Manchester City. There is plenty of league left for Chelsea to recover but the bad news keep coming.
Forward Lucas Piazon, on loan at Reading, is wanted by Toronto Police for an incident that happened back in July while former team doctor Eva Carneiro and lawyers have told the club that she intends to bring a claim for constructive dismissal. Carneiro and another staff member were criticized by Mourinho after entering the field to treat Eden Hazard, who looked like he needed treatment. After the match, the two were dropped from first team duties.
Chelsea’s opponent, Liverpool, has not done well this campaign. Brendan Rodgers was recently shown the door by the club and they quickly brought in Klopp, who left Borussia Dortmund last season. The German manager drew his first three games but his team is coming off a 1-0 win over Bournemouth in the Capital One Cup.
Mourinho will need his best players to step and could be without striker Diego Costa, who suffered a rib injury against Stoke City. If he is not able to play, Loic Remy could get the start. The French striker said that Saturday will be a big game and that they could still be in the top four if they win games. Remy added that the quality is still there.
Klopp hopes to have most of his team ready for Saturday. He thinks Christian Benteke, who was out for the Bournemouth game, will be back.
It won’t be easy for Liverpool, they have not beaten The Blues in eight matches and have not won at Stamford Bridge in almost four years. But Klopp has had success against Mourinho in the past, taking four points from Read Madrid in the group stage in the Champions League and then eliminating them in the semi-finals.
