Mexico: US Consular Official Shot In Guadalajara

A United States consular official was shot as he left a mall on Friday night. The man, who was taken to a local hospital, is being treated for a gunshot wound in the chest. The FBI has offered a $20,000 reward for information that leads to identifying the suspect, who was caught on video near the parking lot before he committed the crime.

Mexico’s federal attorney office released a statement just a few hours later, saying that it was working with the US embassy to find those responsible for this unfortunate event. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition. He is being treated for a gunshot wound in the chest, according to Guadalajara’s El Informador newspaper.

A video with the two suspects has been released by the consulate. One of the videos shows a man pulling out a pistol, shooting once and leaving the area. The man was driving a black Honda Fit and was leaving the mall when it happened. The US consulate has not commented or given any information on the victim’s identity.

$20,000 Reward

The FBI is now offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to identifying the suspect. A police source, who asked not to be identified, mentioned that the shooter could be a professional killer as it was not an easy shot. He added that he was probably aiming for the head but missed as he leaned over to put the ticket in the machine.

Authorities are now looking for the two men seen in the video. A consulate spokesperson spoke to The Guardian and said that they are working with Mexican law enforcement in this matter. The spokesperson also mentioned the FBI reward and added that due to privacy considerations, they had no additional information to share at this time.
