Dubai’s Newest Megaproject Are Two Man-Made Islands

Dubai has plenty of projects that are scheduled to be completed in the next few years but the city is not planning to stop there. Dubai is spending $1.68 billion on two man-made islands for its residents and tourists.

Tourism in Dubai is one of the fastest growing industries in the world and the city plans to keep attracting millions of tourists every year. The megaproject is the latest development planned by the city.

Two Islands and Megaprojects Recently Completed

Marsa Al Arab will have its two islands on each side of the Burj Al Arab, the famous luxury sail shaped hotel. One of the islands will be dedicated to entertainment while the other will have apartments and a private marina, according to state news agency WAM.

Dubai, a relatively new tourist destination, has quickly become a major tourist destination. The city known for its luxury has completed several megaprojects in recent years and is working on completing more soon. In August, the city opened the world’s largest indoor theme park. The IMG Worlds of Adventure has 22 attractions and is as big as 28 football fields. Dubai is also working on The Tower at Dubai Creek Harbor, which will be the world’s tallest tower when it’s completed in 2020.

Megaprojects and Tourism

According to local media, Marsa Al Arab will have apartments, hotels, a water park and a few other attractions for residents and tourists. State news agency WAM said construction will begin next month. The megaproject is scheduled to be completed in 2020.

Dubai is already home to a few artificial islands and it will have two more in three years. The city plans to attract 20 million visitors a year and recent numbers from the city show that Dubai is close to that. In February, Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing said the city attracted 14.9 million visitors last year.
