Los Angeles To Host 2028 Olympics

Los Angeles has been confirmed as the host of the 2028 Olympics after bidding for upcoming editions. The city has reportedly reached a deal with Olympic leaders to host the 2028 edition. The event is 11 years away but it is big news for the city, which had shown interest in hosting other editions.

The city was looking to host the 2024 edition but the news mean that its main competition will probably host that event. Recent reports had revealed that Los Angeles and Paris were competing for the 2024 Olympics. Paris will most likely be the host for the 2024 Olympics now that Los Angeles has reached an agreement for the 2028 edition.

LA Will Host For The Third Time

It won’t be the first Olympics for Los Angeles, which has hosted the event two times. The last time the city hosted the event was 33 years ago. The city hosted the event for the first time in 1932. Paris and Los Angeles were both looking to host the 2024 edition and supporters of LA had argued that its competitor would need to build venues and spend a lot on infrastructure to be ready. Paris interest for the 2024 edition is said to be because they want to mark the centenary of the Paris Olympics in 1924.

2024 and 2028 Editions

The International Olympic Committee recently said that its September vote would award the 2024 and 2028 editions. The recent news means that Paris will probably be the host of the 2024 Olympics. Rio was the last one to host while Tokyo is preparing for the event in 2020.

In recent months, the travel ban was rumored to be an issue that would decrease the chances of LA hosting the event. The travel ban has also been a big topic for the 2026 World Cup, which the US is said to be interested in hosting with Mexico and Canada.
