5 Soccer Teams Under The Most Pressure

The soccer season began just a few weeks ago and the 2018 World Cup qualifiers are underway but there are a few teams who are coming off bad campaigns or have made huge signings to go for all the trophies. There is a lot of pressure on these teams to qualify or get good results in the season. Here are five soccer teams under the most pressure:

Argentina National Team

Argentina’s national team has not been doing well in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers. The team remains in the wild card spot but the recent results are worrying for fans. The team gained just two points out of six in its last two games. 0 – 0 and 1 – 1 draws against Uruguay and Venezuela did not help but there are two games left for Argentina to at least secure the wild card spot. The team will play a crucial game next month against Peru, which is in fourth place and has impressed in recent games.

The CONMEBOL qualifiers actually remain very close, with just one team qualified for the tournament, Brazil. In 2010, Argentina also faced a similar situation but they qualified.

Manchester City

Manchester City made big changes after the season, mainly in its defense. Walker, Mendy and Ederson all joined the club on record setting transfers. The team also spent big money on Bernardo Silva, who joined an impressive midfield with names such as De Bruyne, Silva and Sterling. City had a disappointing campaign last season so there is a lot of pressure after all the spending to improve the defense.

Chile National Team

Chile has been very successful in recent tournaments. The team had a solid 2014 World Cup and has won two Copa Americas since. They were recently in the Confederations Cup finals but recent games have gone differently from what we’ve seen from them in recent years. Chile lost its two recent World Cup qualifying games and is now in danger of missing the next World Cup. Shocking losses against Paraguay and Bolivia have left them in sixth place but the good news is that they have two games left to make it to the wild card spot or even fourth place.

Manchester United

Manchester United have made huge signings in the last two years. Pogba and Lukaku are some of the stars in the team but the club has a lot of pressure because its been a few years since it last won the league. Manchester United were able to save a disappointing season by winning the 2017 UEFA Europa League, which gave them a spot in the Champions League. Manchester United are off to a good start in the league but they will now need to win a few trophies after disappointing seasons.

PSG

PSG has been very successful in the French league since new owners arrived a few years ago. The club has spent lots of money to become one of the best in the sport but there has been little success in other competitions. In the Champions League, the team has gotten past the group stage in many occasions but they have fallen short. Last season, the club appeared to be a big contender after a huge win against Barcelona in the first game but the Spanish giant made a huge comeback in the second game to advance to the Champions League semi-finals. PSG also lost the league after winning it four straight years.

PSG has made huge signings again this season and they now have the pressure to win it all. Last month, the club paid 222 million euros for Neymar. The transfer was the most expensive in history but they didn’t stop there, they later agreed to a loan deal for Mbappe, which could be worth up to 180 million euros if he remains with the club next season.

The soccer season has just begun but there are plenty of teams already under pressure and let’s not forget the World Cup, which is less than a year away and has given fans interesting qualifiers.
