Kaya Mattress Review

I thought last months look at the Zenhaven was going to be a bit of a one off, after all, there are very few new builds on the market, and I have tested all the best ones already anyway. But lo and behold there is something more for me to do in the direct to consumer mattress market. The KAYA is a relative newcomer, hoping to steal the crown of best cooled mattress from the likes of Bear and Layla. The degree to which is succeeds is up for debate, but what they have managed to do is create a mattress that compares very favorably with both the Loom and Leaf and the Vanilla Saatva, and at a much lower price as well. Taking design notes from across the market and combining it into one of the best mattresses I have ever seen.

About KAYA

The KAYA Mattress Build Quality & Materials

Best to start from the top, or the topper material. Rather than an all natural design, the folks over at KAYA have gone with a synthetic blend. Not quite as soft as I would like, nor is it as breathable as the one on the Loom and Leaf, but it has a major ace up its sleeve. It is infused with Thermogel. I have seen two other brands go with this option, and just like I said for those, this is the best cooling solution on the market. it allows a mattress to get away with higher heat retention internal components, like denser, more comfortable memory foam, without causing any kind of sweating, or long term discomfort. There are downsides, as mentioned, but that boon right there more than makes up for them. The design is simple, two toned, top white, bottom gray, so far from my favorite mattress in terms of aesthetics, but there is a nice contrast to it. Overall, on the outside, this is a real winner.

Onto the inside, and it all just keeps getting better. We have five layers here, far more than most, and while it makes it a more complicated build, the quality is impressive in this price range. The top layer is the response foam, seen it a few times before, a latex blend most likely, designed to dissipate even more heat, and move quickly when you do. It allows the memory foam time to realign itself when you change positions, without you feeling the discomfort that comes with confused memory foam. Beneath it is the memory foam. Nothing special about it, a solid 2″ of standard foam. High heat retention in this stuff, which is why there are so many little touches here to alleviate that. Unquestionably the most comfortable thing to lie on though. Next is a simple 1″ of high density transition foam, u8sed to create a buffer between the softer memory foam, and the more robust base layer. Said base layer is straight up steel contour coils. There are literally only two designs using coils, this one and the Vanilla Saatva, and it is by far my favorite base layer solution. There are some things that no cleverly designed foam solution can do, and provide the support and rapid response of a springed base is one of them. Beneath that is another simple layer of base foam, mostly for durabilities sake.

The KAYA Mattress Overall Review

The mattress is slap bang in the middle in terms of firmness. An extra inch here or there could have changed that dramatically, but I like that they went with a broad spectrum approach. one of the main benefits of a coil based foundation layer is the back pain relief. When you combine it with the excellent cooling in that top layer, and the form fitting nature of the memory foam, you have one of the most comfortable, and restful, mattress on the market. The fact that they are managing this in the price range they are is nothing short of astounding.

The KAYA Mattress – Pricing & Returns Policy

Last month I looked at the Zenhaven, and was a touched surprised by the asking price. In a market that is decreasing the prices all the time, and offering high quality items in the queen size format typically for under $1000, the asking price of that one was a bit of a let down. Here there is no such disappointment. The KAYA Queen is well under that $1000 price point, making the quality you are getting for the price all the more impressive. There is also no delivery charge, they have somehow designed the coil springs in such a way as to allow then to vacuum seal and ship it small. No idea how they managed it, but it impressed the hell out of me I can tell you.

I have been reviewing products for a number of years now, and one of the things I have noticed is that for the most part Warranties are terrible. Folk are more concerned with the short term cost of the item, and so companies do not bother very much with after sale care. What makes it worse is I started with reviewing mattresses, and this business still knows how to treat consumers like royalty. The KAYA comes with 120 nights of testing as standard, if you don’t like it within that time frame you can send it back free of charge, and the company will donate it too, assuming you are not in California. Most other direct to consumer mattresses firms are offering only 90 nights, which is great, but the extra 40 nights here is a nice touch. Please do bear in mind that is takes about a month to really get a feel for a new mattress.

The warranty itself is top notch. Punching above the industry standard of 15 years, to offer a full 20 years, is worthy of praise. It covers all the basics, factory faults and the like, but you as a consumer need to know what counts as a factory fault. For example, if you mattress starts to sag within a decade or so then it was defective, and you can make use of the warranty. An excellent price point, free delivery, and a damn fine warranty, par for the course in this business, but always good to make sure.

The KAYA Mattress – So Is it Worth it in 2018?

Quite possibly my new favorite build on the market. Taking all the knowledge of its peers and combining what works into an explosion of comfort. It is honestly a shock for me. I never expected to see this combination of features at this price point, maybe in another five years, but certainly not today. If you are in the market for a new mattress you really do need to check this one out.

Best of all you can take advantage of a $200 off coupon on the Kaya by clicking here.
