If you look at this whole scenario it is obvious the father was hoping to make money off of lawsuits. The father should not be allowed back into the country. The son who is very intelligent, is still just a pawn in this whole charade.

In reply to working_class_hero. While it was a hoax, there is a $15 lawsuit brought forth by his father against all parties involved. It seems that Daddy needs some spending money in Qatar, where they all moved to. IMO, this kid was prompted or ordered by his father to start this little hoax, to gain media attention. His sister has also done a similar thing, years back, and the father is known for his media stunts. Keep it in the family, I guess.

This whole circus just shows how over-sensitive to fear of being labelled bigot the West is. We need to drop the term “Islamophobia” it’s a stupid word. It’s quite okay to have concerns about Islam, after all, there’s a lot in religion to be concerned about, particularly Islam. If it isn’t obvious why that is, then you don’t read enough. The more one learns about Islam, the more one learns about Islamic countries and Islamic laws, customs and ideas, the more one realizes there is indeed a great deal more about Islam to reject than embrace.

After it became rather obvious that this was a hoax, the story was quickly dropped by the mainstream media. It would have made Obama appear gullible and naive to have twittered so predictably and with so little thought or analysis.

In reply to ProfElwood. I believe the fact he showed it to several Teachers, after at least one told him it would cause alarm, indicates alarm was his intention. Also, he actually plugged it into the wall for the Alarm to go off. He was deliberately pulling a prank, causing alarm, just like he had done with the remote before.

“Why was Mohamed Arrested”
Easy answer: he wasn’t. Nowhere in the original article did it say he was arrested, which is quite a bit different than “detained”. Also, it helps to know that the definition of a hoax bomb includes “a device intended to cause alarm”. That’s why they had to know his intentions.

I sincerely doubt Ahmed built a remote, just as he did not build a clock. Either he removed a remote from its case, or more likely, he programmed a Universal Remote to operate the projector (this is a very easy task, and is not any indication of skill with electronics).
