How To Create An Apple ID Without a Credit Card – 2018 Guide

If you own an Apple device, odds are, you’re going to need an Apple ID. Your Apple ID is used to access iTunes, iCloud, and a variety of other Apple services. When you create an Apple ID, you’re often prompted to add a payment method to the account. What if you don’t have a credit card? Follow the instructions in this 2018 guide, and you’ll be able to create an Apple ID without having to input a payment method.

From an iDevice

If you’re attempting to create an Apple ID without a credit card via an iPad, iphone6_ios8_app_store_getiPhone, or iPod Touch, then follow these simple steps.

First, open up an Apple store app. It doesn’t matter whether it’s the App Store, the iTunes Store, or the iBooks Store. Then, navigate to the free section of the store, and tap ‘Get’ next to any free item.

A screen should pop up asking you to sign in. Tap ‘Create New Apple ID’, since you don’t have one yet. Follow the prompts on the screen and fill in your account details. When Apple asks for a payment method, simply select ‘none’. Apple should then send a verification email to the address that you provided. Confirm this email, and you’re done! You should have set up a new Apple ID without having to fill in any credit card information.

From your computer

If you don’t have an iDevice, or if you can’t access it, don’t panic! You can still create an Apple ID from your computer, so long as your computer has iTunes installed.

First, open up iTunes, and open the iTunes Store by selecting ‘iTunes Store’ from the menu along the top of the window. Scroll down and find your country in the lower-right corner and click it, to select your region’s store. Click the “…” icon near the top left of the window, and select ‘Apps’ to access the App Store.

Just like from the iDevice, now you’re going to try to download any free app, song, video, or book. An app is free if the button next to its icon says ‘Get’. Click ‘Get’, and a window should pop up prompting you to sign into the iTunes store. Click ‘Create Apple ID’, since, if you’re reading this article, you probably don’t have one. Follow the prompts on the screen and fill in your desired account details. When Apple asks for a Payment Type, select ‘None’. Once you verify the confirmation email sent by Apple, you should be done!

“I can’t select None!”

If you’re unable to select ‘None’ from the payment method menu, this could be due to a variety of issues. It could be due to your family sharing settings, your country settings, your iTunes history, among other things. Sometimes, nothing will be wrong with your account, but iTunes will still ask you to contact their support department. In that case, you still have a couple of options.

If you have old prepaid cards laying around, you can use those as your payment method, if you’re afraid of Apple charging you without notice. If don’t have any kind of payment card, it’s pretty easy to acquire a virtual credit card (VCC) online for verification purposes. Keep in mind, though, if you happen to run up any kind of “tab” with Apple, due to an outstanding balance or subscription, you will HAVE to supply a payment method. There is no work around. Your Apple ID will be shut down otherwise.
