Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) is one of the most popular film and series streaming services around the world, so it never stops improving its service. In January, Netflix expanded to more than 130 countries and now, it is looking to improve the mobile experience. The improvements will be done on the iPhone first but Android will also get them this year.
Netflix revealed at the MWC 2016 that those who are using iPhones and iPads to watch series and films would get an improved experience. Those improvements were starting on Wednesday. The update gives users the ability to autoplay the next episode of a series and includes changes on the design. Chris Jaffe, Netflix’s vice president of product innovation said the idea is to make things really simple. Netflix has close to 75 million subscribers and is now available in over 190 countries, so making it simple and easy to use on phones and tablets makes sense.
The improvements and features will come to Android, but no date was given on the release. The only thing we know about the Android improvements is that they will arrive this year.
Autoplay Trailers and Second Screen Experience
Netflix will also make a few updates later this year for Android and iPhone users. Customers will have the option to manually mark their mobile data usage settings for the service. The app will allow them to watch HD or lower quality videos as part of the new feature.
The company will also let smartphone and tablet users provide a second screen experience. This feature is for those who like to watch Netfix’s content on a big screen. One of the most interesting features seems to be the autoplay video trailers. The autoplay trailers will help show users what the content is about. Netflix has so much content that sometimes we miss good films and series, so this sounds like a good idea.
The autoplay trailers will only start if you hover over a title and it will be a little different from the ones we watch on TV or the Internet. Netflix will show a shorter version of the trailer, so you can learn more about it and decide if you want to watch.
Netflix is currently testing this feature and it could be available to users soon.
