Too many options. It’s a common complaint of everyday life. It is true of pretty much everything, and mattresses are no different. When it comes to finding the right mattress for you you are going to need as much information as you can get your hands on, which is why I’m here. Today I’ll be comparing the Novosbed with a classic, the Casper. For the budget conscious the Casper can be a fine choice. Using the now standard three tiers of foam to craft a bespoke-esque experience at discount prices. The Novosbed is the more expensive of the two, but they have an arguably more impressive build and a hell of an incentives program. But which of the two is the better buy? You’ll have to read on to find out.
Company Vs Company – Novosbed Vs Casper
This is one of my favorite sections to write. I pit the philanthropy of the companies against one another, to see who gives more back to the community. Casper has been on the market only a short time, since 2014, but they have already seen strong sales and a wonderful focus on US manufacturing. Keeping the vast majority of the materials and the product itself within the US creates jobs in all sorts of sectors, which should always be applauded. In addition they make sure that all returned products get donated. Novosbed are what I would call an old guard of the direct to consumer market. They were founded in 2009 with the intention of making buying mattresses easy and with minimal fuss. Their customer support is second to none, and as of 2012 all of their products are US made. They too make certain that all returned mattresses are donated to charity. Seems to tight to call this one to be honest, both companies are providing much needed jobs, and donating their products. Novosbed might eek out a lead, by virtue of Casper sharing manufacturing duties with a firm in Belgium, but saying that sounds a little xenophobic. Let’s call it a draw.
Winner – Draw
Casper Vs Novosbed Mattress Build Quality and Materials
As always we compare the topper material first. Casper uses a Polyester/Polypropylene blend, which I am sure you know is both porous and hard wearing. The issue with it is it isn’t quite as breathable as other available materials, like cotton. As good a choice as it is, I can’t help but feel we’re looking at the cheaper options here. The Novosbed comes with a similar issue. Their top is made of a material blend too, with polyester being the main ingredient. The difference is that the side material is made from a slightly more durable poly blend, allowing the top mix to focus on breathability and comfort, while the side material keeps it together. It’s a clever solution, and shows great attention to detail, as well as the bottom line. Aesthetically the Casper is nice. Nothing to write home about, a pleasant enough gray cuboid. The Novosbed is downright gorgeous by comparison. A patterned off-white top with a contrasted gray underside. Two blue lines around the mattress finish it off. It may not sound like much, but in the mattress world even that little effort speaks volumes. Overall, there is little separating the two. Novosbed clinches it with their specifics, and the fact that it has a zipper allowing it to be easily removed.
Winner – Novosbed
On to the insides, and Casper is at a bit of a disadvantage here due to the three different varieties on offer from Novosbed. The Novosbed comes in Soft, Medium and Firm, with the Soft having the least in common with it’s more back pain friendly siblings. The Medium and Firm both have seven inches of support foam as the base. This is topped with two slightly different memory foam layers, both two inches. They are both much denser than regular memory foam, and thus must work together to get that full body contouring we all love so much. The benefit here is there is less space for heat to get trapped, and when combined with the breathable top and the aerated nature of the topmost layer of foam, you have a mattress that feels fantastic. The Firm version has a less dense memory foam top layer, meaning you hit the support foam faster leading to a firm experience. Remember, a good medium to firm mattress is best for those with chronic back ache, but some trial and error is required.
The Soft version of the Novosbed is something special. It has less support foam, sitting at a respectable six inches, followed by three inches of dense memory foam and two inches of gel infused aerated memory foam. The gel is required to counter the deeper memory foam layer, remember what I said about heat retention? Casper’s mattress deals with memory foams heat issues in a slight different way. It has seven inches of support foam, followed by 1.5 inches of memory foam and topped with 1.5 inches of latex foam. It is a much firmer experience overall, but not unpleasant. The Latex foam layer does not conform to your body’s contours, but is also does not retain heat, allowing you to remain cool and comfortable. Honestly, as good as the Casper is, it can’t quite match the Novosbed in terms of comfort.

Novosbed Vs Casper Overall Review
I wish this one were harder to call, but with thinner layers, and fewer options the Casper can’t really compare to the Novosbed. It is arguable that due to be being firmer it will help those with back pains a little more, but with Novosbed’s firm option right there, and the comfort+ system, which I will go into in a moment, I think I have to give this section to Novosbed overall.
Winner – Novosbed
Casper Vs Novosbed – Pricing & Returns Policy
That is some difference in price there. I’ve mentioned that the Casper is a great choice for those on a budget, but the figures below do not tell the whole story. The Novosbed comes with a fairly heft discount if you click here ($100 off) meaning if we compare the queens, it’s $999 vs $850. It’s getting closer now. When we factor in the comfort+ system the deal you are getting with Novosbed becomes much more attractive. The comfort+ system is part of Novosbed’s guaranteed satisfaction policy. If you find your chosen mattress not meeting your requirements Novosbed will send you a half dozen toppers so you can dial in the firmness. Free of charge of course. When we look at raw figures, you save a little cash going for the Casper, but the perks of the Novosbed should not be overlooked.
All direct to consumer mattress companies offer a trial period, during which you can get a full refund within a certain number of days, and a fantastic warranty. Novosbed have the longer period this time, at 120 compared to Casper’s 100. Honestly, both of these are as good as the other, you really should know whether you want to keep a mattress within a month or so. The warranty from Casper is the industry standard ten years, and considering the average lifespan of a mattress is ten years this should be sufficient. Novosbed offer a slightly longer warranty, at fifteen years. Bear in mind that mattress warranties cover visible sag.
Winner – Casper
Novosbed Vs Casper – Conclusion
A quick look through the sections will tell you that the Novosbed is the better quality product, with Casper having the better price. But we would be wrong in saying it is better value. For a scant $150 you get a slightly higher quality mattress, all those toppers, a longer trial period and a longer warranty. If you are looking for the best mattress for back pain between these two, out of the box that would be the Casper. When we factor in the different densities and the variety of toppers, that zip right in flush with the mattress by the way, the Novosbed is the better buy. Overall this one goes to the Novosbed.
