The iPhone is a fantastic device. Between the sleek design, the abundance of apps, and the quality of both the display and the clarity of audio, it can easily seen as the standard all smart phones should compare themselves to. However for some, the phone part of the iPhone isn’t always functional. Here, we will take a look at what may cause your iPhone to not ring, and three general ways to fix it.
Possible Reasons Your iPhone Isn’t Ringing
So, first things first, you’re iPhone hasn’t stopped ringing because Siri has gained self awareness and found a particular dislike for your friends and family. What is more likely is that one of two settings on your phone (namely, Mute and Do Not Disturb) may have been accidentally switched on, the ringer was silenced, or that an update threw your iPhone’s system slightly off kilter in terms of notifications. Luckily all of these are incredibly quick and easy fixes.
iPhone Ring Reset Method #1: The Settings Solutions
If your iPhone isn’t keen on letting you know that you’ve had half a dozen missed calls in the past hour, it may be because you accidentally set it not to. To check if this is the case, first look to see if there is a crescent moon symbol near the top of your Home Screen. If so, then Do Not Disturb is active. To turn this off, go to Settings, then click on Do Not Disturb, and ensure both Scheduled and Manual switches are both in the off position.
Likewise, the Mute setting might have been tapped on if the switch on the upper left hand corner of your phone happened to be pressed at any point. To check and fix this, look at the side of the phone, if the material below the switch is orange, turn the switch and all your problems should be resolved.
iPhone Ring Reset Method #2: Rework the Network
Some solutions when it comes to mobile phones simply refuse to make sense. If none of the above happened to solve the silence, go to Settings, then General, and tap on Reset. Next, tap Reset Network Settings and confirm. This will set all the Network Settings to a factory default and can often cause your iPhone to start ringing again.
If not, you can always go to Settings again, then choose Cellular and turn off Cellular Data, then turn it on again and enable LTE. This has in some cases proven useful. In the case that neither work, going to Settings yet again, then General, Reset and tapping Reset All Settings should do the trick.
iPhone Ring Reset Method #3: When in Doubt, Restore and Reset
As a reliable last resort, backing up your data to a restore point, and then performing a factory reset is nearly a sure fire method to solve most software issues. To do so, first plug in your iPhone to your computer and open iTunes. This should then present an option to backup in the devices menu. Follow any prompts on screen, and then safely disconnect your device. Then, go to Settings, click on Reset, then Erase All Content and Settings, and you’ll be presented with a confirmation notification, and be asked to input your password. Do so, and wait a few moments until your iPhone shows the Hello Screen. Then, restore the backed up data to your iPhone by attaching it to your Computer and transferring the data over as you had when you first purchased the device.
