Mosquitoes don’t have to be something that you have to put up with in your life. These annoying little critters can always be dealt with in a natural way. After all, we all want to be out in the sun without a care in the world, instead of worrying about the next time that we will be bitten by nature’s biggest pests. And who really wants to go out in scorching temperatures in a full body covering biohazard suit. Let your arms show, and follow these natural remedies to help you enjoy those lazy days outside.
Causes
The first thing is to understand what might make mosquitoes attracted to you. It is true that some people seem to be prime mosquito feed, while others can simply go through life wondering why you are complaining about mosquito bites all the time. Some of the factors include:
- Body odor
- Drinking alcohol
- Going to the Gym too much
- Being tall
- Your blood type (Type O being particularly deadly)
Other than your height and blood type, there is plenty you can do here to stop the mossies from biting. Firstly, if you are a person who is particularly prone to bad body odor, try using a neutral, all natural shower gel in the morning.
And for alcohol, try cutting back on those glasses of wine. You don’t need to have a glass in hand to enjoy the park time weather, and you will be able to go home with out any bites and can to avoid the morning hangover. Win!
There are, however, other ways you can help prevent mosquitoes from being attracted to you:
Lavender Oil
This plant, famed for it’s sleepy properties, is also a great herbal way to keep mosquitoes away. You can buy inexpensive lavender oil and add a few drops of it to your evening or morning bath. As well as keeping the flying pests away, it will help you smell and feel great!
Herbal Sunscreen
Using the right type of sunscreen, you can prevent becoming red both from the sun and mosquito bites! Many are now made with natural and non-toxic ingredients that will help you to keep away bugs, not just mosquitoes, from biting you when the sun is out.
Add Plants to your Garden
Many plants, such as the already mentioned Lavender, Citronella, Basil, Peppermint, Rosemary, and Geranium give out a smell that naturally repels mosquitoes. If your problem is Mosquitoes in your house, garden, or on your balcony, then keeping a few of these plants around can really help. And if you are feeling particularly adventurous, you can add a few leaves and buds of these plants to your outside handbag, keeping the herbal insect repellents with you wherever you go.
Drink Vinegar
And by this, we don’t just mean red wine! Drinking a nice glass of Apple Cider Vinegar helps to make your blood far less attractive to Mosquitoes, naturally repelling them.
Soy Sauce
Another natural ingredient that you likely already have in your house. Applying a small bit of soy sauce to your skill skin help with both keeping mosquitoes away and, it has been said, moisturize your skin and stop your body hair from growing too fast. And you can cook with it as well! A very useful thing to go out and buy if you don’t already have some in your cupboards!
Using all of these tips, you can very easily go out and enjoy the hot weather the way it is meant to be enjoyed. Eating ice cream, and getting a bit of a tan without worrying about itching at night or coming into the work the next day covered in bites.
