Fetty Wap is a rapper whose single “Trap Queen” took the airwaves by surprise with his incredible combination of singing and rapping. The single’s success boosted Fetty Wap to greater heights and earned him numerous awards and nominations. Now he has released a well-received album with a second one on its way, and a slew of hit singles.
Fetty Wap’s Rise to Fame
Willie Maxwell II, or Fetty Wap, was born on June 07, 1991, in Paterson, New Jersey. He grew up surrounded by music as his family and relatives sang or played instruments. Fetty Wap himself joined the church choir where he practiced his love for drums and learned much about music. Also it was during his childhood when he lost his left eye to congenital glaucoma.
During his early 20s Fetty Wap began working on his own tunes. He developed his own unique blend of singing and rapping, and he sold his mixtapes virtually anywhere to create buzz. Fetty Wap developed a fanbase in Paterson and this helped build up his popularity. He was also part of the rap group Remy Boyz 1738 and together they recorded music on a local scale and sold their CDs and merchandise out of their car’s trunk.
In 2013 he worked on “Trap Queen” and uploaded it on SoundCloud around March 2014. It amassed millions of plays in a matter of months thanks to its infectious tunes and to social media. “Trap Queen” was released commercially before 2014 ended and immediately entered the Billboard Hot 100 in 2015.
September 2015 saw the release of his eponymous debut album with “Trap Queen” as its lead single along with his other hit songs namely “My Way” and “679”. Critics favored Fetty Wap’s first album and he maintained his momentum through the release of mixtapes. Last February 2016 he released the single “Jimmy Choo” and his next album King Zoo is already in the works.
Fetty Wap’s Other Ventures
Fetty Wap partnered with Creative Mobile last year for the creation of his mobile racing game Fetty Wap Nitro Nation Stories. He also endorsed brands such as Pepsi and Calvin Klein.
In 2015 Fetty Wap paired with lifestyle brand Young & Reckless for the creation of his own clothing line named Still Runnin’ which consists of hoodies, crewneck sweaters, t-shirts, and soccer jerseys.
Fetty Wap’s Romantic Life
Fetty Wap is currently dating Slevin Monroe, or also known as Blu. He had an on-off relationship with Masika Kalysha, the founder of cosmetic line Khari Barbie Beauty and the mother of his third baby Khari who was born last December 2015. Fetty Wap and Kalysha are part of the cast of reality show Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood.
His first child is Aydin Zoovier from his ex-girlfriend Reese. Fetty Wap’s baby number two is Zaviera from his brief flame Lezhae Zeona.
