Meh. IMO this dipsh**’s crime wasn’t dislodging a poster that would be worth less than a roll of Charmin in the west; his crime was (like 2000+ other westerners per month) paying $3000+ to participate in a fake ‘tour’ of a repressive regime just so he could claim to have travelled to an ‘exotic’ location that no one else in his fraternity had visited. Let him rot.

The stupidity of anyone going to a repressive dictatorship and stealing, defacing or otherwise trying to get away with anything is worthy of a Darwin Award, Second Class (not First Class because normally the death penalty is not applied). One is reminded of another stupid kid: Michael Peter Fay, a US citizen who was the subject of international attention in 1994 when he was sentenced to six strokes of the cane in Singapore for theft and vandalism at age 18. When you fly into Singapore, large signs at the airport warn you that the penalty for drug possession is death. Shouldn’t this tell anyone with a brain that it’s not the kind of place to test your luck against the authorities?

You seem to have missed out on events like a large group of students from a "historically black college" committing mass theft in Tokyo's Akihabara electronics district, just before attempting to leave the country. Imagine their surprise when the police were waiting to intercept them at the airport. It is really stupid to believe that only white people do dumb, arrogant, vicious and stupid things.
