We all know that the stars of Hollywood are just rolling in cash. From watching television shows that give you grand tours of their mansions to magazines that break down just how much their outfits really cost. They star in award winning movies and charm us during interviews, but how much money are these celebrities really generating at the end of each year?
#10 Akshay Kumar, $31.5 million
Akshay Kumar has been proclaimed by Box Office India to be one of the best actors in all of Indian cinema history. His talents stretch from acting, to producing, to martial arts (which he applies to the industry by working as a professional stunt man). During the length of his career, he has appeared in hundreds of Bollywood films, his first of which grossed a total of $310 million. Some of his most recent works include, Naam Shabana (2017), Jolly LLB 2 (2017), and Rustom (2016).
#9 Robert Downey Jr., $33 million
Robert Downey Jr. is an American actor who has experienced a lot of highs and lows in the eyes of the media. He was born into the show business, both his mother and father worked in the movies. However, when he first dipped his toes into the acting pool, the public didn’t take to him all that well. He was deemed the worst Saturday Night Live cast member by Rolling Stones magazine. Downey later redeemed himself when he appeared alongside James Spader in Tuff Tuff. After that first movie he received more positive feedback from the masses until a period lasting from 1996 through to 2001 where he struggled with drug abuse. It took five years of arrests and a mixture of treatments before he finally took serious action to take care of himself and find his way back to doing what he loves. He appeared in a handful of Blockbuster hits and eventually became the annoyingly charming Tony Stark who we all know and love.
#8 Shah Rukh Kahn, $33 million
Also known as the “King of Bollywood” or “King Kahn”, Shah Rukh Kahn is an Indian film actor and television personality. He found his start in the 1980s by appearing in various television series. After that, he began playing villainous roles in full length movies and later received serious recognition after appearing in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Mohabbatein (2000), and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001). In addition to also being an actor, Kahn has found success in his philanthropic endeavors as well. He has provided people with both health care and disaster relief. In 2011 he was awarded Pyramide con Marni award by the UNESCO for his work towards supporting children’s education. He was also awarded the Padma Shri in India and the French awards, Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and Légion d’honneur.
#7 Vin Diesel, $35 million
Vin Diesel is an American born actor who was introduced to the industry through an uncredited role in the 1990 film Awakenings. Shortly after that, he wrote and produced his own short film. This drama tells the tale of a multiracial actor who can’t seem to make it past auditioning. The film went over so well that it was chosen to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival. He has appeared in a collection of roles since then, but perhaps one of his most famous roles is that of Dominic Toretto from the Fast and Furious series. This particular character earned him a lot of attention in the Hollywood spotlight, but Diesel has always been the kind of man who prefers to keep his personal life private. He wants to make his art, but also to keep his family’s privacy out of the tabloids.
#6 Ben Affleck, $43 million
Ben Affleck is an American actor who became most widely recognized after he and Matt Damon wrote and starred in the 1997 film Good Will Hunting. Damon and Affleck ended up winning a Golden Globe that year for best original screenplay and Affleck went on to prove that he can command an audience for his leading role in Armageddon (1998). Then in 2012 he won his second Golden Globe for Best Director for the film Argo, which he also starred in himself. Most recently Affleck has received attention for his roles in Gone Girl (2014) and taking on the role of the famously loved DC character Batman. In addition to acting, Affleck has also become an avid humanitarian worker. He and Whitney Williams co-founded the Eastern Congo Initiative in 2010. Their goal is to provide grants to community-based charities in addition to offering different resources and training to Congolese farmers.
#5 Johnny Depp, $48 million
Johnny Depp is one of the most widely famous American actors because he often takes on the challenge of playing “larger than life” roles in the film industry. He and Tim Burton have been working together for years and each project they make together ends up showing Depp in a new but always fantastical light. Depp has gone from being our favorite elusive pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, to an infamous Boston mobster, Whitey Bulger, in Black Mass. He has proven his ability to act under a variety of different circumstances, taking on no two roles that are overly similar. Films starring Depp have grossed over $8 billion on a worldwide scale because of how far his fan base reaches across the globe. He has been nominated multiple times for various different awards and has won plenty of them. His most notable of which is the 2007 Golden Globe he won for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
#4 Tom Cruise, $53 million
Cruise started acting when he was 19, but didn’t receive much attention until a few years later when he starred in the romantic comedy Risky Business (1983). After that he became one of Hollywood’s most talked about movie stars. He went on to lead in some hit films in the 80s including Top Gun, Rain Man, and Born on the Fourth of July. His success continued well on after that, following him all the way up until present. In 2012 he was the highest paid actor in the industry. 16 of his films during that time grossed over $100 million. He has also won three different Golden Globe awards for his performances in Born on the Forth of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia. Most recently though, Cruise has been receiving attention in the media for reviving two of his more famous roles. In 2015 another Mission: Impossible was released and in 2016 Jack Reacher: Never Go Back was released. As of right now he is currently filming another Mission: Impossible film which is anticipated to be finished sometime in 2018.
#3 Matt Damon, $55 million
Matt Damon is one of the highest grossing actors of all time and has been nominated for 5 Academy Awards, eight Golden Globes, and six Emmy Awards. He and Ben Affleck received Hollywood attention for their film Good Will Hunting, winning the Best Screenplay award, but Damon was also nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards. After that Hollywood hit, he went on to feature in Saving Private Ryan (1998) and The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999). He has been praised by critics for his ability to take on challenging characters and has since then become a widely popular actor across the world. In 2016 he made a splash in the movies by reviving his character, Jason Bourne.

Jackie Chan is so famously popular in the acting industry on a global scale because of his ability to do more than just act. He’s a film director, producer, stuntman, singer, and he is often able to create his own acrobatic fighting scenes. Chan is highly respected in the acting community because not only is he amazingly talented, but he’s just a charming person. He has starred in a variety of action comedy films, but has appeared in over 135 movies in which he has played a collection of different roles. Over the span of his career he has been nominated for 34 different awards and won 28 of them. In 2016 he was awarded an honorary oscar for his “extraordinary achievements” at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Some of his recent films that were released in 2016 include Kung Fu Panda 3, Skiptrace, and Railroad Tigers.

Before Dwayne Johnson made his break in the acting community, he was most popularly known as The Rock. For a long time he worked as a professional wrestler for the WWE and has since then continued to dabble in it for entertainments sake. However, Johnson found real passion through acting in front of a camera and became instantly popular because of his sweetly charming personality. One of his first acting roles was in 2001 when he stared in The Scorpion King. More recently though, Johnson has appeared in a chain of comedy movies. In 2016 he starred alongside Kevin Hart in Central Intelligence and he voiced the pesky demigod in Disney’s highly anticipated Moana. Although he has yet to win any outstanding awards for his performances, Johnson is becoming an increasingly popular figure in Hollywood.
