Prime Day 2017 Was a Record Setting Day For Amazon

On July 11, Prime Day returned for its third edition and customers were able to find deals and discounts on thousands of products available on the site. It’s been over a day since Prime Day 2017 ended but Amazon recently released a statement giving us an idea on how good it was for the company.

The online retailer said in a statement that it grew by more than 60 percent compared to the same 30 hours last year. The company did not reveal all the numbers about Prime Day 2017 but it appears that the online retailer had an even better day than last year’s event, which was also record setting for Amazon.

Prime Day 2017 brought thousands of discounts and deals for part of July 10 and all of 11. Like previous editions, Amazon products such as the Echo and Fire tablets were some of the biggest sellers.

The sale of products is not the only thing that makes this a successful event for Amazon. Amazon Prime membership subscriptions are also a big part of the day. The membership, which costs $99 a year, gives customers plenty of benefits, including free two day shipping. Amazon has never revealed how many customers signed up for Amazon Prime during Prime Day but the online retailer did say that more members joined than any other day in the company’s history. During last year’s event, millions of products were sold but that wasn’t the only good news for Amazon as analysts say the company added millions of Prime members. The company is now saying Tuesday was its biggest day for the membership, which means it probably added millions more.

Prime Day 2017 returned for its third edition on Tuesday, July 11 and with the success of all three, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the online retailer bringing it back next year. Consumer Intelligence Research Partners estimated that the online retailer had around 80 million Prime members before Prime Day 2017. Around the same time last year, analysts estimated that Amazon had nearly 60 million members.

Here are are some of the highlights from Prime Day 2017:

  • The Echo Dot was the top selling product. The Fire TV Stick was the biggest seller during Prime Day 2016.
  • Amazon sold more than 3.5 million toys. During last year’s event, the online retailer sold more than two million toys.
  • Sales were higher than Cyber Monday or Black Friday 2016.
  • In the UK, one of the best selling products during Prime Day was the PlayStation 4.
