It’s been a few years since Xiaomi lost its spot as the top smartphone maker in China but not all is bad news for the company. The smartphone maker appears to be bouncing back with an increase in sales during the second quarter. According to a report from the company Canalys, the company was fourth in units shipped during the quarter. The Chinese smartphone maker shipped 15 million phones, which isn’t bad considering that it is a 60 percent increase from the previous quarter.
Huawei continues to be the top smartphone maker in the country, with 23 million units shipped. Oppo finished in second place with 21 million units and Vivo finished in third with 16 million. Apple also made the top five but it was passed by Xiaomi.
The last two years haven’t been great for Xiaomi but the company appears to be making a big comeback for the top three in China. The strong competition could be one of the reasons that the company has missed sales targets in previous years. Companies such as Huawei, Oppo and Vivo are also releasing solid phones at great prices.
2017 could be a big year for Xiaomi though, the company has already released one of its flagship smartphones and could surprise fans with one or two big announcements. Back in February, the company confirmed that it was working on the second version of the popular Mi Mix. The company is also rumored to be working on a 5X phone and the Mi Note 3. This year, the company has released phones such as the Mi 6 and Mi Max 2. It also began selling some of its phones in Mexico and even though only a few are available, this means the company is expanding to other markets.
Fourth place is not bad but Xiaomi could be moving up in the next quarters if the sales continue to increase. What do you think about Xiaomi phones? What do you think about the recent numbers? Let us know in the comments.
