It is always fun to watch a superstar return after being out of action with an injury or signing with the company. 2017 has been no different, with superstars making surprising returns and even a tag team reuniting to fight against The Miz and his new team. Here are the biggest WWE returns of the year:
The American Alpha tag team came to an end when it was revealed that Jason Jordan was Kurt Angle’s son. Jordan moved to WWE Raw and Chad Gable continued as a singles competitor. But it didn’t take too long for Gable to find a new tag team partner. Shelton Benjamin, who was making his return to WWE last year but had to wait longer due to an injury, was announced as Gable’s tag team partner. The tag team has done well and on the most recent episode of WWE SmackDown, they defeated the former tag team champions The New Day.
Triple H had a match against Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 33 but it is very rare to see him in the ring. He has only made a few appearances in the ring in the last few years so when fans saw him return to the ring at a WWE live event in Santiago, Chile, they were very surprised. He not only won the match but also danced with The New Day after that.
It’s been an interesting month, with WWE legends such as Triple H and Kurt Angle returning to the ring.
Fans went crazy after Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins decided to join forces and face the team of Sheamus and Cesaro. But the tag team was still missing a member, Roman Reigns. After The Miz and his team attacked Roman Reigns, it was clear that he would join forces with Ambrose and Rollins. The Shield returned with its awesome entrance and gear right before WWE TLC. But the event saw a few changes after Reigns and Wyatt were out due to medical issues. WWE did bring some interesting replacements to keep the matches. One of those replacements was AJ Styles, who came from WWE SmackDown to face Finn Balor.
Earlier this year, Kurt Angle returned to WWE Raw and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. He was also announced as the WWE Raw General Manager shortly after. His return to the company didn’t stop there, he also competed in a match as a member of The Shield. It was his first match in the WWE since 2006 and while he looked a little different since he used the gear that Rollins and Ambrose gave him, fans were happy to see him back in the ring.
Angle continues to be the WWE Raw General Manager but after the attack from the WWE SmackDown roster on the WWE Raw superstars, we might see another appearance from him in the ring. Shane has appeared in two WWE PPV matches this year and led the attack on WWE Raw superstars. Will we see a Kurt Angle vs. Shane at WWE Survivor Series?
Kane made a surprising return during a steel cage match between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman. The Big Red Machine helped Strowman get the victory and it was later announced that he would be part of The Miz’s team at WWE TLC. Things didn’t go well for the team during that match but a feud between Kane and Strowman now appears to be close.
Kane continued his great run on the most recent episode of WWE Raw by defeating Finn Balor. After the match, he claimed that he was the only monster in WWE Raw.
The Hardy Boyz
One of the biggest surprises of the year was the return of The Hardy Boyz. The famous tag team was rumored to be making a return to WWE but many fans didn’t think it would happen at WrestleMania 33. Jeff and Matt’s entrance made the crowd go crazy and the team went on to win the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships.
We have yet to see Broken Matt Hardy, who was one of the biggest wrestling stories last year. Reports say that is because of a legal dispute with his former wrestling promotion.
Balor returned earlier this year after a shoulder injury forced him to vacate the WWE Universal Championship. Balor has not regained the championship but has been involved in many of the matches to become number one contender. His current feud was interrupted after Wyatt was ruled out for WWE TLC due to a medical issue. The match was still awesome as he faced AJ Styles.
These are some of the biggest WWE returns in 2017. Did we miss any returns? Which returns would you like to see in the future? Let us know in the comments.
