Representing the United States, Alex and Maia Shibutani have won several titles since their senior debut in 2010. A two-time member of Team USA in the Winter Olympics, they are currently competing for a chance to finish on the podium at the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Incredibly popular, the siblings have earned themselves countless fans around the world. In fact, they have appeared on television a few times- for instance, they made a brief guest appearance in the Nickelodeon series, Nicky, Ricky, Dicky, & Dawn in 2017.
How Alex and Maia Shibutani Became Famous
Though they’ve competed in ice dance for a number of years, it wasn’t until they made their senior debut during the 2010-11 season that they rose in prominence. Over the next few years, the siblings medalled at several events including the US Nationals, Four Continents, and Finlandia Trophy competitions, to name a few.
From there, their notoriety only increased further after they were selected to represent the United States at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Fast forward to now and Alex and Maia are currently doing the same at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. In fact, they’ve already helped Team USA win a bronze medal in the Team Figure Skating event.
Awards Won by Alex and Maia Shibutani
Known for their grace and elegance on the ice, Alex and Maia have won a number of awards throughout their career so far. For instance, they are two-time winners of the Edi Award from the Professional Skaters Association, an award that recognizes their outstanding performance at the US Nationals.
In addition to that, they’ve also been honored with the Team of the Month award from the US Olympic Committee, which recognizes their competitive achievements as a member of Team USA.
