A Japanese ski jumper, Noriaki Kasai is currently the oldest individual to have won a medal at the Winter Olympics, a feat that he had accomplished in 2014. Since then, he has continued to compete in the World Cup- in fact, he had just recently finished fifth at the event last season. This month, he will also be representing Japan at the 2018 Winter Games.
Born on June 6, 1972, the 45-year-old Ski Jumper made his World Cup debut back in 1988, at the age of sixteen. From there, he participated in his first Olympic games in 1994 in Lillehammer.

How Noriaki Kasai Became Famous
Despite his many wins in the 90’s and 2000’s, it wasn’t until 2014 in Sochi, that he rose to prominence after becoming the oldest ski jumper to have ever medalled at the Winter Olympic games (he was 42 years old at the time).
From there, just a few months later, he became the oldest World Cup winner after finishing first at the competition.
Noriaki Kasai’s Other Medals
Aside from what we’ve mentioned above, he has also won four bronze, and two silver medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. Back in 1992, he also won a gold medal for the Individual event at the FIS Ski Flying World Championships.
During his Olympic debut in 1994, he also helped Japan win a silver medal in the team large hill event.
Noriaki Kasai’s Recent Activities
Participating in the World Cup once again for the 2017-18 season, he successfully finished in fifth place for the SF.
Following that, he was selected to represent Japan at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. In the normal hill event that took place at the Alpensia Ski Jumping Platform, he ended up finishing 21st.
