10 Players Who Could Soon Make a Move To The MLS

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the latest football star to make a move to the MLS. The Swedish footballer should make the league even more interesting to watch since he showed throughout his time in Manchester United that his career is far from done. The former Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan, PSG and Manchester United player will probably not be the only star to make a move to the MLS. For years, there have been rumors about big names joining the league. The league already has several stars but we will likely see a few more in the next few years. Here are ten players who could soon make a move to the MLS:

Javier Hernandez

Javier Hernandez was one of a few signings that West Ham made last year but things have not gone well for the club and they are now sitting just two points away from relegation with eight games to go. Before his return to the EPL, he was linked with a move to the MLS. That didn’t happen but reports continued during the January transfer window. It wouldn’t be surprising to see rumors of a move once the season is over.

Andres Iniesta

Iniesta has been at Barcelona for 15 years but reports say that he could leave at the end of the season. Rumors say the midfielder might move to the Chinese Super League, which has signed several stars in recent years. But in the past, he also been linked with a move to the MLS. In 2016 and 2017, there have been reports mentioning that New York City FC is interested in signing him. David Villa, who played with Iniesta in Barcelona and Spain’s national team, joined the club back in 2014.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo to the MLS has been rumored for a while but the Portuguese star is still scoring goals and winning games with Real Madrid. It has been a difficult season for the club but Ronaldo has been nearly unstoppable recently. A move to the MLS this year or next is unlikely but he could be a good addition to the MLS team that David Beckham wants to have in Miami.

Luka Modric

Luka Modric currently plays for one of the best clubs in the world, Real Madrid. But the Croatian midfielder is 32 years old and the club will most likely be looking to make a few changes after the season. It’s rumored that the club will look to sell a few players to afford the Neymar signing, which could end up being a lot more than what PSG spent. In late 2016, ESPNFC reported that Los Angeles FC was considering signing stars, including Modric.

Wayne Rooney

Wayne Rooney joined Everton on a two year deal in July 2017 but before that move, reports revealed that there were several MLS teams interested in signing him. Rooney is 32 years old and will be 34 by the time his deal with Everton ends. He has also been linked with a move to China so it looks like he could have several options once his deal ends.

Yaya Toure

In June 2017, Yaya Toure signed a one year extension to remain with Manchester City for an eighth season. Toure has had great success in his time there but he is turning 35 in two months. Manchester City is also said to be interested in signing Fred, who could end up replacing Yaya Toure and Fernandinho in the future. Back in October 2017, reports said that he could join NYC FC, which has a partnership with Manchester City.

Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas is only 30 years old but the star midfielder has already talked about moving to the MLS. In a YouTube interview with Natacha Tannous, he mentioned that once he doesn’t think he can play in Europe, his plan is to go to the United States. He also didn’t rule out a move to the CSL.

Arjen Robben

Last month, Robben told Sportbuzzer that he had no plans to retire and talked about a move to the MLS. Robben, who has won six Bundesliga titles and several other trophies, also didn’t rule out the possibility of moving to China or Qatar. Robben’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season. It has also been reported that he wants to extend his contract at the club for at least one more season.

Andres Guardado

Last year, Guardado confirmed that he was not close to making a move to the MLS but admitted that there had been approaches. There was even a report that mentioned that he had joined Los Angeles FC on a four year deal. The midfielder told reporters that they had placed him in the MLS for three years. A month later, he joined Spanish club Real Betis on a three year contract. The midfielder has played less than one season with the club but an MLS move has been rumored for quite some time and with him confirming that there have been approaches, we could see it happen soon.

Iker Casillas

Back in December, there were rumors that Casillas was making a move to the MLS. That didn’t happen but reports mentioned at the time that Casillas had asked Villa about the MLS. Casillas signed a one year extension with Porto back in July 2017. The former Real Madrid goalkeeper joined Porto back in 2015.
