A Russian figure skater, Elena Radionova recently finished first on the podium for a gold medal at the 2017 Winter Universiade. In the past, she has also medalled at the World Junior Championships, World Championships, and European Championships.
Born and raised in Moscow, Russia, she was introduced to skating when she was three years old, by her father. Though he had originally intended for it to be therapy for her club foot, she quickly grew to love the ice. Growing up, she looked up to Carolina Kostner, Mao Asada, and Kim Yuna.

How Elena Radionova Became Famous
During the 2011-12 season, she made her debut at the Russian Championships at the age of twelve. Though she ultimately didn’t medal at the event, she later won a bronze medal at the subsequent Junior Championships.
The following season, she competed as a senior at the 2013 Russian Championships, where she defeated the champion, for the junior title. Subsequently, she won the gold medal at the 2013 World Junior Championships.
From there, it wasn’t long until she made her senior debut on the international stage at the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy. After placing first in both the short and free programs, she took home the gold medal.
On a winning streak, Radionova later won the World Junior Championships for the second time in 2014; with that, she became the first ladies’ single skater to defend her title for two years straight.
Elena Radionova’s Recent Activities
Since then, the skater has continued to compete in many events such as the 2015 European Champions, Grand Prix Final, and 2016 European Championships. Most recently, she also won a gold medal at the 2017 Winter Universiade, which took place in Almaty.
As of 2017, she is training with coach Elena Buianova at CSKA Moscow.
