An artistic gymnast, Madison Kocian was a member of the “Final Five”- the gold-winning team at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. A World Champion on the uneven bars, she is currently attending the University of California, Los Angeles, where she competes with the NCAA women’s team.
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, her parents enrolled her in gymnastics at a young age. By the time she was five years old, she had started training at the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy.
How Madison Kocian Became Famous
Following a successful junior career, she started competing as a senior in 2013. From there, just a year later, she won a gold medal in the team event at the 2014 World Champions. On the uneven bars, she had also finished second for a silver at the National Championships.
In 2016, Kocian was named to the US Gymnastics Team for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Once there, she won two medals- a gold in the team event and a silver on the uneven bars. Only eighteen at the time, her achievements at the Olympic Games had earned her a considerable amount of attention.
The summer following the Olympics, she competed in the 2016 National Championships and US Championships. In both events, she earned a silver medal on the uneven bars.
Madison Kocian’s College Career
In the fall of 2016, the gymnast began attending the University of California, Los Angeles. In doing so, she also joined the UCLA Bruins gymnastics team. Her subsequent collegiate debut took place in a home meet in January 2017, against the University of Arkansas. At the same meet, she also had the chance to compete against Kyla Ross, a fellow Olympic gold medalist.
