A former Olympic champion, Peggy Fleming had won a gold medal at the 1968 Winter Games in Grenoble. Not long afterward, it was announced that she would be retiring from competition. Since her retirement, she has been working as a television commentator.
Raised in Cleveland, she began skating at the age of nine. By the time she was in her late teens, she had made her debut at the World Championships. That same year, she also medalled at the 1965 North American Championships.

How Peggy Fleming Became Famous
Ultimately, it was after her gold medal win at the 1966 World Championships that she started to gain attention. Following that, she successfully defended her title in 1967 and 1968. With the latter win, she eventually earned herself a ticket to the 1968 Winter Olympic Games in Grenoble.
As it happened, Fleming eventually won the gold medal in the ladies’ singles event. with that, she became a celebrity almost overnight, with much media attention. Not long afterward, however, it was announced that she would be retiring from competitive figure skating.
Peggy Fleming’s Other Activities
Following her retirement, she began performing with a number of ice shows such as Ice Capades. At one point, she even performed on a Perry Como Christmas Special on television.
With that said, the thing that kept her busiest was her career as a figure skating commentator for ABC Sports. In fact, she has been serving as one for over 20 years.
In the recent years, she has also made appearances on TV shows such as Entertainment Tonight, Skate for the Heart, Rise, Caesar’s Tribute II: A Salute to the Ladies of the Ice, and Progressive Skating & Gymnastics Spectacular.
In fact, she was recently featured on the talk show, Today earlier this year.
