Coming To Russia? 10 Stars That Might Not Be At The 2018 World Cup

We’re right around that time when national teams begin choosing who will be part of the roster at the World Cup. The famous tournament is just a few weeks away and Monday is the deadline for national teams to submit their 35-man provisional squads. Big names such as Dani Alves and Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not play. The list of stars who will not play will likely get bigger as every World Cup there is a few surprises. Here are ten stars we might not see at the tournament:

Joe Hart

Joe Hart is in danger of missing the World Cup after his not so good seasons at Torino and West Ham. The former Manchester City goalkeeper has struggled at times and while he has been a regular starter for England’s national team, things could be different for the upcoming tournament. Jordan Pickford and Jack Butland are among the names that could be part of the national team.

Renato Sanches

The Portuguese midfielder has not had the greatest time in the Premier League. The midfielder suffered an injury earlier this year and recent comments from his manager have not been good news. Swansea manager Carlos Carvalhal said back in April that he doesn’t think he has any chance to go to the World Cup.

Manuel Neuer

Neuer’s 2017-18 season was derailed by an injury, the star goalkeeper has not played since September but the German national team is hoping he is ready for the tournament. Neuer has been a regular starter for the team and won the World Cup with them in 2014. Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes recently said that he is making good progress.

Mesut Ozil

Mesut Ozil’s appearance at the World Cup is in doubt over a back injury. The German midfielder was ruled out of his club’s final home game of the season. Ozil recently tweeted that his injury will need some time but added that he is sure he will fully recover in time for the World Cup.

Alvaro Morata

Morata had a mixed season in the Premier League, starting off hot and then going cold. The former Real Madrid and Juventus striker had an amazing start with Chelsea but things quickly changed. Spain is one of the favorites to win the tournament but they face several questions when it comes to the striker position.

Mauro Icardi

Mauro Icardi, Higuain and Dybala are just some of the names that Argentina could choose to have on its World Cup squad. Most teams would be happy to have those names but Argentina has so much talent that there could be a surprise for the World Cup squad. Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli has admitted that Icardi and Dybala are in a similar situation when it comes to playing in that system.

Hulk

Hulk has made many appearances for Brazil’s national team but this year’s squad could be a lot different from what we saw in 2014. Gabriel Jesus, Firmino and Neymar are just some of the names that are almost confirmed for the tournament. Brazil has done well without some of the names that were once starters. Hulk broke transfer records when he joined the Chinese Super League back in 2016 but the amount of talent that Brazil has could leave him out of the World Cup. Things could be different for midfielder Oscar, who also made a move to the CSL.

Kevin Gameiro

Kevin Gameiro can score goals but the problem with making France’s national team is that there is so much talent that one is probably going to be left out. France has names such as Lacazette, Griezmann and Giroud.

Paulo Dybala

Paulo Dybala would start for almost any national team but Argentina has so much talent in that position that the Juventus star could be left out. He is not the only Argentine star that is in danger of missing the tournament. Jorge Sampaoli recently said that it is complicated for Dybala to get used to their system. Sampaoli also said that Icardi’s situation is similar to Dybala’s.

Argentina struggled in the World Cup qualifiers and they will soon have to make a decision for the World Cup squad.

Michy Batshuayi

The Belgium striker is facing a race against time after suffering an ankle injury that ended his season with Borussia Dortmund. The injury happened back in April but the striker is not ready to give up his dream to go to the World Cup. The Borussia Dortmund striker posted on Instagram less than two weeks after his injury, saying that he was already getting better.

The World Cup is just a month away and we will soon find out all the names that will be at the tournament. Who do you think is going to miss the tournament? Who do you think will be the biggest surprise? Let us know in the comments.
