A talented figure skater, Katy Taylor participated and medalled at several events throughout her competitive career. After finishing in fourth place at the 2006 US National Championships, she was named as an alternative to the Winter Olympics, though she ultimately did not manage to take to the ice at the event.
Born and raised in Houston, Texas, she began skating just prior to turning six. After two years of taking group lessons, she was coached one-on-one by Jana Conter. Naturally gifted on the ice, she eventually landed her first triple jump- a loop, at the age of ten.
How Did Katy Taylor Became Famous?
Competing on the novice level for the first time in the 2002-2003 season, she had qualified for the US National Figure Skating Championships for the first time after finishing second at a couple of qualifiers. Subsequently, at the event, she won a silver medal after finishing second behind Jimmie Meissner. From there, she went on to compete at the Triglav Trophy, where she won another silver medal.
The following season, she moved up to the junior level. That year, she gained attention after finishing in third place (behind Japan’s Miki Ando) at the 2004 World Junior Championships which were held at the Netherlands.
In 2006, Taylor competed at the US National Championships once again, where she narrowly missed the podium with a fourth-place finish. Regardless, she was later named as the second alternate to the 2006 US Olympic team.
Katy Taylor’s Later Skating Career
During the 2006-2007 season, she participated in a handful of events including the Nelbelborn Trophy, Skate Canada, and Skate America. Due to equipment and training issues, however, she received disappointing results.
Though she was supposed to compete at the 2007 US National Championships, she later withdrew due to personal problems. As far as we know, she has not returned to competition since.
