After Brock Lesnar: 7 Stars That Could Be Next In Line For The WWE Universal Title

Brock Lesnar has had a dominating run as WWE Universal Champion. The former football player and mixed martial artist defeated Goldberg for the title at WrestleMania 33. Since then, Lesnar has appeared in a few title matches but has left as the champion every time. Lesnar is just a few days away from breaking CM Punk’s record of 434 days as champion but reports have recently said that the title run might soon come to an end. Here are seven stars that could be next in line for the WWE Universal Championship:

Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins is currently the WWE Intercontinental Champion but he could join the WWE Universal title race in the near future. Rollins has never held the title but has been very close. In August 2016, Triple H betrayed Rollins and helped Kevin Owens win the vacant WWE Universal Championship. Rollins has had some involvement in the Reigns and Lesnar feud, he actually became the WWE World Heavyweight Champion when he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania 31. Rollins and Lesnar also faced each other at WWE Battleground (2015) but that match was interrupted by The Undertaker.

Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns has had several title opportunities against Lesnar but he has been unsuccessful. Reigns had a match against Lesnar at WrestleMania 34 and fell short. He later had another match at the Greatest Royal Rumble and that ended in controversy. Their feud goes all the way back to 2015 and reports have recently mentioned that it could resume soon. The reports have mentioned that WWE has plans for another match between them at WWE SummerSlam 2018. The reports have also revealed that there is a possibility that Lesnar might drop the title there.

Braun Strowman

Braun Strowman has been dominant since leaving the Wyatt Family. He has defeated most of the roster and has been in the title race for quite some time. Strowman’s dominance has not led to many championships though, his only title win is against Cesaro and Sheamus. That tag team title run quickly came to an end since he could not defend the titles with a kid on his side. There is really nothing else for Strowman to do but to chase the WWE Universal Championship. Strowman has looked as dominant as Lesnar, so he would be a perfect champion if WWE decided to go that route.

Finn Balor

Finn Balor was the first ever WWE Universal Champion but that quickly came to an end when he had to vacate the title due to a shoulder injury. He currently holds the record for the shortest WWE Universal Championship reign at one day. Balor returned one night after WrestleMania 33 but he has not been able to get back on track. Balor becoming the WWE Universal Champion would be interesting since we didn’t really get to see him as champion.

Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley recently returned to WWE after ten years and while he isn’t really in the title race at the moment, he fits what we have seen from recent Universal Champions. The last two to hold the title have been Goldberg and Lesnar, two dominating superstars who rarely lose a match. Bobby Lashley recently came back but he looks like a solid candidate if WWE wants to keep a dominating superstar as the WWE Universal Champion. Lashley’s initial tenure with WWE included two ECW World Championships and one United States Championship.

The Miz

The Miz recently qualified for the Money in the Bank match and while there are many big names that will participate, he is one that could be a totally different champion if he wins. He is coming off solid WWE Intercontinental Championship runs and it would be very interesting to see someone like him as the champion. The Miz is now on WWE SmackDown so a Money in the Bank briefcase could also mean a WWE Championship win in the future.

Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe has feuded with Brock Lesnar in the past and a Money in the Bank briefcase could be the start of something for him. Samoa Joe has never won a title in the main roster but he had lots of success in NXT. Joe was recently moved to the WWE SmackDown roster but the Money in the Bank briefcase does give the winner the opportunity to face a champion. A match with AJ Styles for the WWE Championship wouldn’t be bad either.

Recent reports have revealed that Brock Lesnar might drop the title at WWE SummerSlam, which will take place in August. Roman Reigns has been rumored for another match against Lesnar but the event is months away, so we don’t know if that will actually happen.
