Samsung Takes The Top Spot In India

Xiaomi has had tons of success in India since debuting in 2014 but the Chinese tech giant is now behind another popular smartphone maker. Samsung has taken the top spot after landing in second several times.

The South Korean company dominated the market for years until Xiaomi took the number one spot back in November 2017. Xiaomi held the spot for months but Samsung has bounced back after big releases throughout the year.

The April – June 2018 quarter went to Samsung but the numbers were really close. The South Korean company finished with a 29 percent share, according to Counterpoint Research. Xiaomi finished in second with 28 percent.

Samsung’s return to the top spot was said to be sparked by the releases of its J series. An analyst at Counterpoint Research explained that the company has refreshed its entire portfolio. The analyst adds that they have designed products targeting every segment.

The analyst says the lack of refresh on Xiaomi’s side helped Samsung take the top spot. There is some good news for the company as the analyst also said that their models are doing quite well, adding that three of the top five are from Xiaomi.

The numbers are not a lot for Samsung to take a break as Xiaomi was only one percent away from tying. The close results mean that the battle for the top spot will continue in the next few months.

Samsung has made several impressive releases this year while Xiaomi has recently made some that will likely catch the attention of customers. The Mi Max 3 and Mi A2 are just some of the smartphones that the company has launched in recent weeks.

The company has also announced that it will be releasing the Mi 8 Explorer Edition on July 30. The smartphone is one of the most impressive announcements of the company in 2018. The release is said to be just for China at the moment. Xiaomi has not given any details on a global release.

The top five also includes Vivo, Oppo and Honor. Their percentages of 12, 10 and 3 are far lower than Samsung and Xiaomi.
