WWE SummerSlam (2018) – Matches Confirmed So Far

WWE SummerSlam (2018) is just two weeks away but recent episodes of WWE Raw and SmackDown have confirmed many matches. The card currently has nine matches with eight of them being for championships. SummerSlam is one of the biggest events of WWE and the match card for this year’s event looks very interesting. Here are the matches confirmed so far:

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Jeff Hardy (US Championship)

It’s been a rough few weeks for the former US Champion Jeff Hardy. Jeff not only lost the title to Nakamura but has also been attacked by Randy Orton several times. In the most recent episode of SmackDown, Orton let Nakamura attack Jeff Hardy. The rematch after Extreme Rules ended in a win for Jeff but that came from a disqualification.

Carmella vs. Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte (SmackDown Women’s Championship)

Carmella will be going up against Becky Lynch and Charlotte, who recently returned and won an opportunity to be in the title match at SummerSlam. The current SmackDown Women’s Champion is coming off a feud against Asuka.

Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns (Universal Championship)

Brock Lesnar will be facing Roman Reigns once again. The WWE Universal Champion returned on the last episode of WWE Raw and attacked Angle and Heyman. Reigns earned another title opportunity after defeating Bobby Lashley. Lesnar has been victorious against Reigns in recent months but The Big Dog will have another opportunity at SummerSlam.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Seth Rollins (Intercontinental Championship)

Dolph Ziggler will be facing Seth Rollins once again for the WWE Intercontinental Championship. At Extreme Rules, Ziggler defeated Rollins after making a huge comeback with the help of Drew McIntyre. Rollins opened with a 3 – 0 lead but the match went into overtime after McIntyre interfered. The sudden death overtime didn’t last very long as Rollins was distracted and Ziggler was able to retain the title.

Cedric Alexander vs. Drew Gulak (Cruiserweight Championship)

Drew Gulak earned a WWE Cruiserweight Championship opportunity after defeating TJP, Mustafa Ali and Hideo Itami in a fatal four way match on 205 Live. The match was scheduled for the event nearly a week after the win by Gulak.

AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe (WWE Championship)

AJ Styles will be meeting Samoa Joe at WWE SummerSlam. Rumors had recently put Samoa Joe as the next contender for the WWE Championship and they turned out to be true. AJ Styles has faced Samoa Joe in other wrestling promotions but this is the first time that the two have a big match between them in the WWE.

Alexa Bliss vs. Ronda Rousey (Raw Women’s Championship)

Alexa Bliss will be facing Ronda Rousey after she cost her the match at Money in the Bank. Bliss retained the title at Extreme Rules but now has a tough challenge against the former UFC champion.

Braun Strowman vs. Kevin Owens (Money in the Bank)

Braun Strowman lost his match against Kevin Owens at Extreme Rules but that was because he threw Owens off the top of the cage. On the July 23 episode of WWE Raw, Owens complained about what Strowman had done. A rematch was scheduled for WWE SummerSlam but with the stipulation that Strowman’s Money in the Bank contract is on the line.

The Bludgeon Brothers vs. ??? (SmackDown Tag Team Championships)

The Bludgeon Brothers will be putting their tag titles on the line against the winners of the tag team tournament. The final to determine the number one contenders will be between The Bar and The New Day. The two teams have history together as The Bar ended The New Day’s historic run back when they were part of the Raw roster.

Matches That Could Be Added

Andrade Cien Almas and his manager Zelina Vega have been feuding with Rusev and Lana. Cien Almas and Zelina Vega have won their matches against them but it wouldn’t be surprising to see this match be part of the card or even the kickoff show, which currently doesn’t have any.

Bobby Lashley’s plans for WWE SummerSlam are currently unclear. It wouldn’t be surprising if Lashley is added to the match between Lesnar and Reigns. Orton is another superstar that does not have a match. The Viper recently returned and has attacked Jeff Hardy several times.

The kickoff show does not have any matches at the moment so a few tag teams or superstars will likely get a match. The Usos, Sanity, Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy are just some of the tag teams that are not in the match card. The B-Team is not in the match card as well so we could see them be added later. Their opponents could be Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy or another tag team from WWE Raw.
