Boca Juniors and River Plate are facing off in the second game of the Copa Libertadores final in just a few days. But the Argentine clubs are currently having a difficult time selling the tickets assigned to them for the Copa Libertadores final.
Both sides appear to be having a difficult time selling their 5,000 tickets because it is not cheap to travel to Madrid to watch the game. Daily Mail reports that it takes around 2,000 euros on just the flight and hotel alone.
The news site reports that 3,000 of the tickets might end up being returned. The final will draw fans from around the world but the clubs might be missing the support from their home fans.
Real Madrid club members have already been given the chance to buy some of the tickets and reports say those were bought right away.
Fans of the clubs need thousands of euros to travel to the European country and buy the tickets to the game. Hotel prices are already high because of a four day holiday in the country.
The Copa Libertadores final will be taking place at the Bernabeu Stadium after all the controversy that has surrounded Boca and River. The two games have seen suspensions and the recent incidents have led to fines for River Plate.
The controversy began when there was a rain delay in the first game of the final. The game was suspended hours after fans reached the stadium and sat there for the game. The controversy continued when the second game was also suspended.
The Boca Juniors team bus was attacked shortly before it reached River’s stadium. The attack left windows of the bus broken and several players injured. The game was not suspended right away and fans sat in the stadium for hours before a decision was announced. The game was announced for the following day but it was later suspended again.
Reports after the suspension revealed that CONMEBOL was planning to move the game to another stadium or country. It was initially rumored that another South American country would be the host but reports later surfaced that Spain was interested. The Bernabeu Stadium was later announced as the site of the second game of the final.
Boca and River ended the first game in a 2 – 2 draw but that was nearly a month ago. The second game of the final was supposed to take place two weeks after. The game has raised doubts on whether Argentina can host the World Cup in 2030. Argentina along with Uruguay and Paraguay have made it clear that they will make a bid for the 2030 edition. The tournament is years away but the recent incidents are not good news for a future bid.
Boca and River will play the second game of the final on Sunday, December 9. The first result was a 2 – 2 draw at Boca’s stadium.
