The NFL Divisional Round gave fans some really good games on Saturday and Sunday. The round began with the Patriots, Chargers, Colts, Chiefs, Eagles, Saints, Cowboys and Rams looking to advance to the Championship round. Here are the results for the Divisional Round:
Chiefs 31 – 13 Colts
The Colts were coming off a really good win against the Texans but they had a difficult time against the AFC West Champions. The Chiefs had a 14 – 0 lead after the first quarter and the game was never close. The Colts scored seven in the second quarter but those would be the last points until the fourth quarter. Patrick Mahomes II did not have a passing touchdown in this one but he did rush for one. Damien Williams, Tyreek Hill and Darrel Williams each added one rushing touchdown. On the Colts side, Luck had just over 200 yards passing with one touchdown. Marlon Mack had just 46 yards rushing on nine carries.
Next Game: Patriots vs. Chiefs
The Chiefs will now be facing the Patriots in the AFC Championship game. The two teams met earlier this season and it was the Patriots who left with the W. The game was a shootout though, ending 43 – 40.
Rams 30 – 22 Cowboys
The Los Angeles Rams went up against the Cowboys, who were coming off a solid win in the Wild Card round against the Seahawks. The NFC East Champions could not get the running game going and the Rams led for most of the game. It was different on the other side, the Rams had over 250 yards rushing. Gurley had a nice game with over 100 yards rushing and one touchdown but the game changer was C.J. Anderson who ran for over 120 yards and two touchdowns.
Next Game: Rams vs. Saints
The Rams have earned a rematch against the Saints, who won the regular season matchup 45 – 35. The loss was the first of the regular season for the Rams, who came in 8 – 0. The game will be at home for the Saints, where they are undefeated with Sean Payton as head coach.
Patriots 41 – 28 Chargers
The Patriots were surrounded by doubts heading into this game since they had not looked like the team we are all used to seeing. Those doubts were erased in the first quarter of the divisional round. The Patriots scored on their first three drives and took a huge lead. The Chargers could not respond, scoring just once in the quarter. New England took a 35 – 7 lead into halftime and the game was pretty much over by then.
Saints 20 – 14 Eagles
The Eagles were coming off a huge win against the Bears in the Wild Card round and they had a strong start to this game. Brees was intercepted on the first play of the game and the Eagles quickly turned that into seven points. The Eagles later took a 14 point lead and it was looking like the Saints would not respond. New Orleans got back in the game in the second when Foles was intercepted. They also converted a fourth down on a fake punt, which gave the Saints offense some momentum.
The Eagles did not score again but they did have one last shot to win it. That ended when a pass to Jeffery fell into the hands of the Saints defense. It is the second playoff loss of Foles career, both coming against the Saints.
