5 Essential Tools For Photography Beginners

From spotting interesting angles to lining up your subject, many keen photographers will tell you that the most important piece of kit you can have is your eyes. While your own creativity and vision is crucial however, there are lots of tools out there that can help you achieve great results while making your life easier too.

There are countless accessories out there depending on your level of knowledge and experience, but it’s best to start with the essentials. With your camera of choice in hand, here are five additions worth looking at.

Lenses

Most modern digital cameras will come equipped with a decent starter lens, but if you want to start experimenting with photographing different environments and scenarios, you may need to branch out.

Thankfully, swapping and changing lenses on the go is relatively quick and easy. Consider carrying a telephoto lens for long-range shots, a macro lens for getting up close, and a wide-angle lens for dramatic landscapes and detailed interiors.

Spare batteries

The last thing you need when you’ve lined up the perfect shot is your battery dying on you. Regular use throughout the day will drain the battery in most cameras, so it’s worth taking a spare with you when you head out.

Try to get into the habit of charging your batteries up the night before. If you’re going away for a while, make sure you take a charger with you to avoid missing out.

Storage

Digital technology has made it possible to take thousands of photos without worrying about using up a film. With that said, carrying a spare memory card is always a good idea and will save you having to delete photos to free up extra room if you are particularly snap-happy.

A card reader from RS Components will allow you to easily access and transfer all of your photo files from your memory cards.

Laptop

Investing in a new laptop will make it easier to view your photos in a bigger size and quickly sift through and organise your collection.

Photo editing software is great for making tweaks to achieve your own style, and with 95 million posts shared on Instagram every day it’s important to stand out. Having a laptop with you means you can work on the move without having to wait to get back to your home computer.

Camera bag

With all that kit, it might be time to invest in a new camera bag to carry it around. Many bags feature ready-made compartments for most of the above, making travelling a much easier process.

If you’re worried about weight, look for a comfortable strap or handle that will make the load more manageable.

With your essentials ready to go, you’re all set to get out there and take great photographs.
