Fortnite offers plenty of cosmetics through its Item Shop but a lot of players love when Epic Games brings free items. The gaming giant has been generous throughout the nine seasons of the game, offering all kinds of free cosmetics when completing challenges or by simply using a creator code or a new feature available in the game.
Now, Epic Games and YouTube are partnering to bring some more free cosmetics for Fortnite players. The new option is called Drops and it allows players to receive some cool cosmetics when they link their YouTube and Epic Games account. The cosmetics are unlocked after watching certain Fortnite events.
Epic has done this in the past with other platforms, so this isn’t exactly a new thing by the company. But the move makes a lot of sense since the Fortnite World Cup is just around the corner. Season 10 is also close to its launch, so there will be plenty of people watching YouTube videos related to Fortnite.
Four Events Coming Up
The cosmetics have been announced for four events that are coming up. Players only need to watch 20 minutes of the broadcast to unlock the cosmetics. All the information about Drops appears in a blog post made by Epic.
The process of connecting your YouTube account to Epic is very simple. All you need to do is sign in on a desktop browser and select the Accounts option. From there, click on Settings and find Connected Accounts. After that, you can register your Epic and connect it to the platform. You can create an Epic account on Epic’s official website if you still don’t have one.
The first event that will unlock free cosmetics will happen on July 25. The event is the Game Jam Hollywood Premiere. The next events will take place on July 26, 27 and 28. The events to watch if you want the cosmetics are Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3 of the Fortnite World Cup Finals live broadcast.
More Drops Coming
The Verge reports that YouTube and Epic Games are planning to bring more Drops in the future. The tech site reports that future events will be announced after the World Cup, which will feature some of the best Fortnite players in the world. The tournament comes after weeks and weeks of qualifiers between high ranked players.
Epic Games has been quite generous when it comes to free cosmetics, especially in recent seasons. Not too long ago, the gaming giant apologized for a glitch during the end of Season 8 by giving out a free glider. Those who had bought the glider before that received their V-Bucks back.
Lots of Free Cosmetics In Recent Seasons
On top of that, Epic Games has also given out many cosmetics through its Avengers Endgame, John Wick and other recent events. The majority of the cosmetics are unlocked by completing simple challenges such as visiting a certain area of the map or using an emote at an specific location.
