The Motorola Razr is back after years and years of rumors. The legendary flip phone is now a foldable smartphone, which will compete with others such as the Galaxy Fold and Mate X.
The foldable device was announced by Motorola last night. The new version comes nearly 15 years after the first release of the Razr, which was one of the hottest sellers of the company for many years.
The new Razr has major changes and improvements over the first Razr but the company has managed to give it a similar design when the phone is folded. Here is everything you need to know about the new Motorola Razr:
Specifications and Other Details
- 6.2-inch display with a resolution of 2,142-by-876 pixels. 2.7-inch OLED display for notifications and other options.
- Snapdragon 710 processor.
- 6GB RAM.
- 128GB of internal storage. There is no way of expanding the storage.
- 2,510 mAh battery.
- 16MP main camera. 5MP front camera.
There is no wireless charging for this foldable phone. The phone does bring a fast charging adapter. The other eye catching part of the specs is the processor, which was allegedly chosen over power consumption. We’ll know more about its battery life when the phone is officially released.
Design
The new Motorola Razr is a foldable device, which makes it completely different from the original Razr. Motorola has done a nice touch by making the new device pretty similar to the first release when it is folded.
The big difference between the new device from Motorola and other foldable phones is that this phone folds horizontally. The phone folds like a flip phone from the early 2000s.
The foldable technology found here has been a major topic among the tech world since it’s been a big issue for other companies. The Samsung Galaxy Fold was delayed over issues and it took a while for the company to release it. The foldable phone is now available in a few countries but not before Samsung was forced to make adjustments and improvements to make sure that didn’t happen again. Huawei also delayed its phone, the Mate X, to avoid making any mistakes.
Price and Availability
The new Motorola Razr has a price of $1,499, which is a bit higher than a regular smartphone but lower than the foldable phones that have been announced. The FlexPai phone is the only phone that has a similar price. The Galaxy Fold and Mate X both have much higher prices. Samsung’s device has a price of almost $2,000 while the Mate X is said to be coming at a price of around $2,600.
Motorola has decided to make this phone a Verizon exclusive. The device also happens to use a digital eSIM card, which could mean no unlocked releases for people to have the phone on other mobile carriers. The Motorola Razr will be available for pre-order on December 26 and will be released in January 2020.
