Day 1 Surprises

This year’s NFL Draft had a few surprises in the first round. On the QB side, Lawrence went to the team that many expected but some dropped or went higher. Among the surprises is the Bears drafting Justin Fields. Chicago traded up to get him with the 11th pick, which was quite a surprise but good news for the team since this was a position surrounded by question marks. Trubisky is no longer with the team and Dalton was rumored to be the starter before the Bears made their first round pick.

Another surprise came before the Bears traded up, the Eagles moving up to get DeVonta Smith. The WR position was something that the team needed to address following the exits of Jeffery and Jackson. Smith was rumored to be one of the names that the Eagles wanted to select but it was unclear if he would be there with their pick. But the team made a surprise move by trading with divisional rival Dallas Cowboys to move up and get the WR.

Before all of this happened, the Broncos also made a move that many didn’t see coming. They selected Surtain, a player that many Cowboys fans were hoping to see with their pick. The Broncos recently traded for QB Teddy Bridgewater and did not select one in the draft, sparking reports that he will compete for the starting position with Lock.
