Destiny is an online multiplayer first-person shooter game that was originally released in 2014. There are currently two titles in the game series: Destiny and Destiny 2, the latter of which was released in 2017. While the former no longer receives updates, players can still access some in-game activities.

Are you looking for a similar game? Wondering what you should play? Then keep reading because we’ll be going over some suggestions below!

Top 10 Games That Are Like Destiny In 2026

Without further delay, here are some games to try if you like Destiny. Some are free-to-play while others require a purchase.

10. Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic might not be a first-person shooter but it has many elements that are similar to Destiny. Not only is it action-packed with old-school combat, but it’s also highly entertaining with an exciting plot.

Developed by Bioware, it takes place in the Old Republic (the same setting as the Star Wars pre-sequels) where you play as one of eight characters- including a Jedi, Sith, or Bounty Hunter. Like most Bioware games, there will be choices that you’ll have to make, all of which will impact the story.

There’s also an Alignment system that tracks speech and actions- one that determines whether you’re on the light or dark side of the Force. Not only that but there are also a variety of lightsabers to select from, including the ubiquitous colors green and blue as well as yellow and orange. On top of that, it features full voiceovers and numerous cinematic cuts.

Free-to-play, the game is available for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PlayStation 3, in addition to Microsoft Windows and OSX systems. Keep in mind, however, that the expansions are not included with the original title.

9. Monster Hunter Rise

Monster Hunter Rise is an action role-playing game that features swords instead of guns. Similar to the other games in the series, you’ll take the role of a hunter, trapping or slaying monsters- which range from mythical beasts to dragons- in a variety of landscapes to protect and support the villages. Currently, it’s the second best-selling game in the series with more than 11 million copies sold worldwide.

And as you progress through the game, the battles will get more challenging. Fortunately, there are different weapons and gear that you can use to boost your stats. There’s also an animal companion called a Palamute, which you can ride into battles or across maps. Wirebugs can also be used to ride and mount certain monsters.

Another great thing about Monster Hunter is that it’s an open world, meaning that you can explore the different maps freely, as opposed to following a linear and structured plot.

While the game was originally released for the Switch, it has since been ported to the PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. In June 2022, an expansion pack, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, was also released.

8. Outriders

Outriders is a cooperative action role-playing game that shares many similarities with Destiny. Praised for its visuals, gameplay, and customization, it attracted more than 3.5 million players within one month of its initial launch.

Not only is it a shooter RPG, but there are four classes to choose from, each of which has its own elemental abilities. The game itself is also set in a sci-fi world where aliens are commonplace. And there are a variety of weapons, traversal abilities, and advanced skills to choose from in terms of combat.

The loot system is also similar to Destiny and other action-RPG games in that you’ll acquire new and improved gear as you face stronger enemies. There are also two modes to choose from solo or co-op so you can decide how you want to play the game. Regardless, there will be tons of quests, as well as dungeons for you to complete and explore.

Released in April 2021, the game is currently available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows (it was also available on Stadia before the platform was discontinued).

7. Dying Light 2: Stay Human

Dying Light 2 is an action roleplaying game developed by Techland. More specifically, it’s an open-world first-person shooter RPG that combines elements of looting, crafting, and survival. Unlike Destiny, however, it features a zombie apocalypse and stars a protagonist with parkour skills. This allows you to perform various actions such as sliding, climbing ledges, wall running, and leaping off from edges, to navigate the map. Aiden can also use the undead zombies to break his fall.

Set in the city of Valledor, the game is a massive open world and is broken into a number of distinct regions, each of which has its own locations and landmarks. Not only can players scavenge for scrap and resources to craft new weapons and items, but they can also activate windmills to attract merchants and survivors.

As you progress through the game, you’ll also meet different factions and have to make decisions that’ll change the state of the game.

Released on February 4, 2022, the game is currently available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Windows. A Nintendo Switch version has also been announced and is in the works.

6. The Division

The Division is an action role-playing game that takes place in future New York City following a viral pandemic. You play as a Special Agent of the Strategic Homeland Division and are tasked with combating criminal activity, investigating the nature of the outbreak, and helping individuals rebuild their operations.

Not only is it an open-world game but players can also carry and use weapons such as seeker mines and sticky bombs to fight against enemies. As you progress, you’ll gain currency and experience points, the former of which you can use to buy gear and weapons. You can also use the points to learn new abilities and skills. The game also features a day-night cycle, which alters the behavior of certain enemies in the game.

There are two game types to choose from solo or co-op (up to three players). In addition to that, there are several modes including campaign (main), co-op, PvP, PvPvE, Resistance, Skirmish (a multiplayer mode where groups of four aim for the highest kill count), and raids. Various expansions have also been added since the game was first released. For example, a new area called West Side Pier was released in December 2017.

5. Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 is an action role-playing first-person shooter game. The sequel to Borderlands 2, it allows players to play alone or in teams of up to four people. In total, there are four classes available and you can also take on quests and missions to gain monetary rewards, items, and experience.

As you level up, you’ll also gain skill points, which you can use to unlock abilities on the skill tree. Loot from special chests or fallen foes can also give you special weapons, some of which may come with elemental effects such as ice, fire, or electricity. Aside from using weapons and skills, there are also combat maneuvers that you can use such as wall-climbing to get over short heights.

Generally speaking, you can expect to spend around 35 hours on the main quest line. There’s also a Guardian Rank system, which provides your characters with special buffs. Post-game challenges are also available for those who’ve completed the main storyline, which involves stopping the enemies from harnessing the power of the alien vaults.

Released in October 2019, the game is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows, and macOS systems.

4. Deep Rock Galactic

Deep Rock Galactic is a cooperative first-person shooter game that features dwarves and aliens. Developed by Ghost Ship Games, the game takes place on an alien planet, where caves are abundant in minerals but filled with hostile wildlife. The player takes on the role of a dwarf miner who must enter the caves to extract resources, all while fighting alien swarms. Not only are there different gadgets to choose from, but there are also high-tech weapons that you can use in battle. There are also four playable classes to choose from: Gunner, Engineer, Driller, and Scout, each of which has its own unique tools and weapons.

And if you want, you can play with your friends (up to four players). Ultimately, the goal is to move through the caves and get as many resources as possible. Like many games, the map is procedurally generated and all of the areas are brooming with adversaries, bosses, and of course- loot.

The game also features a progression system where you can purchase equipment upgrades, new weapons, as well as cosmetics for your character. There are also challenges that you can complete for extra perks such as increased speed.

Currently, the game is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Microsoft systems. It’s also part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription service.

3. Apex Legends

Apex Legends is a free-to-play battle royale shooting game. While it’s a little different from Destiny, it features a similar battle system that involves using different skills, weapons, and equipment. You can also choose from different types of characters, all of which feature different skills and capabilities.

Set in the same sci-fi universe as Titanfall, the game features 20 teams of three-player squads, who then go up against each other on the map. Players can scavenge for armor, weapons, and other equipment while keeping an eye out for enemies. There’s also a unique ping system, which allows you to communicate certain directions, enemies, and weapon locations to your squad. As the game progresses, the safe zone will gradually reduce in size, upping the difficulty.

Since the game was originally released in 2019, several expansions aka “seasons” have been released, each of which brings a new playable character as well as weapons and cosmetic items. For example, Season 9, which came out in 2021, introduced a new permanent mode called “Arena” where players can form teams and fight against other squads in a team deathmatch, where the team who wins at least 3 points is the winner.

2. Halo 3

Halo is a first-person shooter game that takes place in the twenty-sixth century; it centers around an interstellar war between humans and an alien parasite known as the Flood and a collection of alien races called the Covenant.

In the game, the player plays the role of an enhanced supersoldier known as the Master Chief, who fights against both factions. Weapons, melee attacks, and grenades can be utilized in addition to items that come with special effects.

There are two main game modes including campaign/story, which can be played solo or together with friends (up to three players). Up to sixteen players can also play together in multiplayer matches via Xbox Live.

Halo 3 is also unique in that it comes with a map-editing tool that allows you to customize the game by inserting and removing objects such as weapons, vehicles, and crates.

While the game itself is a bit old, having been released in 2007, it’s far from being dated. Not only was the title re-released as part of Xbox One’s Halo: The Master Chief Collection in 2014, but it was also recently re-released for Windows in 2020.

1. Warframe

Warframe is an action role-playing shooter game that’s often compared to Destiny, and for good reasons. For one thing, they both take place in space. Not only that but they both feature skills and grinding elements; there are also tons of gear and items to collect. The only difference is that Warframe is played in the third-person perspective.

Set in the future, players control a race of ancient warriors known as the Tenno, who has awoken from a millennia-long sleep and find themselves in the war against a race of deteriorated and militarized human clones. In addition to your starship, which is fully customizable, there are several cities and hubs that you can travel across.

And like many of the games on this list, it can be played solo or with a group of friends. Aside from co-op mode, there’s also a PvPvE, PvP, and starship mode, among others.

Originally released for Windows computers in 2013, the game has since been ported to PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. While the game initially struggled with low player counts, it has since become one of the developer’s most successful titles, with over 50 million registered players across the globe.

The post The Best Games like Destiny in 2026– Top Alternatives appeared first on Gazette Review.

More than 60 percent of India’s population lives in extreme poverty- that is, they live on less than $3 a day. While the number has gone down in recent years, from 22.5 percent in 2011 to 10.3 percent in 2019, it’s still a major issue. Not only is unemployment a problem, but many also face inflation, starvation, and other issues.

To make matters worse, India doesn’t have a minimum wage. In other words, there’s no minimum pay that an employer must pay their workers. More often than not, a rate is simply agreed upon through negotiating and bargaining and more often than not, it’s not a fair living wage.

Having said that, there are those who are extremely wealthy. In fact, there are dozens of billionaires in India, and if you were to take the combined wealth of the top 100 richest individuals, their net worth would be at approximately $660 billion USD.

What’s more, is that the number of wealthy individuals has only gone up in recent years. According to BBC, there were 102 billionaires in the country in 2020; this number has increased to 166 in 2022. That’s not all, according to one report by Oxfam India, five percent of Indians own more than 60 percent of the nation’s wealth.

Top Ten Richest People in India – 2026 List

I think just about everyone in the United States and most other countries will be able to recognize everyone on this list. One thing I found rather amusing while doing my research for this article, is people like Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and Selena Gomez are normally featured in the top spots. And I don’t mean from articles from years ago but even recent ones; those people are very wealthy but they are not teens.

Most Affluent Teens in the World – 2026 List

Everyone on my list has at least one thing in common: their ages end with –teen. Without further ado, here is the list of the richest teens in the world.

Back in 2013, an indie game developer by the name of Orteil, released a browser game called Cookie Clicker. The premise of this game is simple: to click on a giant cookie. Yup, that’s it. Well, kind of. There’s a lot more to the game that meets the eye, but the general idea is that simple; you just need to click a giant cookie. Back when the game first came out, I was immediacy hooked. I played for days on end, just letting the game run in the background while I did other things, while occasionally checking on my status. And that’s what I believe makes the game so addicting. After you first start playing the game, all you can do is click to earn points. But after a while, you can purchase upgrades with the cookies. These upgrades range from helpful grandmas, to portals that send cookies from other dimensions. While in the beginning you’ll do a bit of clicking, after a while you won’t have to manually click as much. The upgrades you purchase will give you more CpS, or, ‘Cookies per Second’. After so many upgrades, you’ll eventually get to insanely high numbers. Don’t be surprised when after 10 hours, you’re making billions of cookies per second, which, surprisingly, isn’t a very high number.

Cookie Clicker hasn’t even been out for three years yet, and the game has received so much love that it’s already through its beta stage, and into the official stage. Just a few weeks ago, Orteil released V 2.0, which introduces tons of new content, like Golden Cookies, and even Cookie Dungeons. There’s also a new monster, which is pretty cool looking, but you have to be far into the game to find him.

But let’s say you’ve already got your fill of Cookie Clicker, and you want to venture out and find new games that are similar in nature. Well, we’ve got your covered. I’ve come up with a list of the top 5 games that are just like Cookie Clicker. While all of these games have the same game play as Cookie Clicker, visually they’re all different, which is really what makes this genre of gaming so unique.

So without further ado, here are the 2018 list of the best games that are just like Cookie Clicker.

Top Five Games Like Cookie Clicker – 2018 List

#5 – Goomy Clicker

Back in October of 2013, Nintendo released the sixth generation of handheld Pokémon games, this time on the Nintendo 3DS. Pokémon X and Pokémon Y featured over 100 new Pokémon, one of them being Goomy. If you don’t follow Pokémon that much, each generation has their own line of pseudo-legendary Pokémon — Pokémon that aren’t legendries, but contain the stats of legendary Pokémon. The most well-known of the pseudo-legendries is of course Dratini, but you have other popular ones as well, like Larvitar, and Deino. But for some reason, Goomy was different. When the initial images of Goomy were leaked onto the Internet, Pokémon fans from everywhere went nuts for Goomy. He’s just this tiny little blob of a Pokémon, but that is what makes him so adorable. He’s just a little dragon blob. When Sluggoo, Goomys second form was leaked soon after, the Internet continued to go crazy. But the craziness would soon die down, as the final evolution of the Goomy line was leaked – the Pokémon known as Goodra. Goodra on its own isn’t so bad. He’s relatively decent looking, but it could have been better. He goes from adorable little blob, to a kind of cute-ish blubbery looking dragon, but that’s not where Goodra fails. The lack of a viable moveset, the weak final stats, topped off by it being pure Dragon type, rather than something new, like Dragon/Poison, or even Dragon/Fairy, made Goodra one of the most underwhelming Pokémon as of late.

Anyway, that’s the history of Goomy, in case you weren’t around for those few hours of madness. And now if you’re wondering why Goomy, of all Pokémon, got their own clicker game, well, now you know.

Goomy Clicker starts off very similar to Cookie Clicker. You click the giant Goomy that is on the left side of the screen, and it gives you more Goomy’s. The more Goomys you have, the more items you can use to purchase upgrades. The upgrades are of course Pokémon themed, including Youngsters, and even legendary Pokémon. The look of the screen when you are playing is similar to a PokéDex. You have your own stats, the total number of Goomy’s, and there’s even an experience bar under the Goomy, that shows when it will level up.

Overall, Goomy Clicker is a very cute game. In terms of graphics, it’s a lot simpler than Cookie Clicker. It’s more straight forward, so you won’t be confused by anything, and you can just enjoy starring at Goomy.

#4 – Clicking Bad

If you’re one of the few people on Earth who never experienced the Breaking Bad craze, then this game will likely confuse you very much. Feel free to check this game out, but before you do, hop onto Netflix and binge watch Breaking Bad. You’ll likely fall in love with the show and become obsessed, which is normal. But whatever you do, don’t go and try becoming a drug lord. Play Clicking Bad instead.

Clicking Bad has the same general premise as Breaking Bad. You start the game as a lowly drug dealer, by both creating and selling methamphetamine, with the goal of becoming much more than just a pity thug. Clicking Bad, despite the lack of any graphics, is actually quite a complex game, and there’s more at stake here than any of the other Cookie Clicker clones out there. When you first begin playing, you need to spam the COOK! button. After gaining some batches, all you have to do is click the SELL! button, which is located directly underneath. The more batches you sell, the more upgrades you can buy, and with more upgrades, you can gradually increase the purity of your product.

The main difference between Clicking Bad and Cookie Clicker is the fact that you need to watch your product and your profits very carefully. There is both the DEA and the IRS to look out for, both of which will mess up your game if you’re caught. Luckily there are ways to dodge both of those agencies, through money laundering and generally watching your percentages to make sure you aren’t audited or raided.

#3 – Sandcastle Builder

When I first opened up this game in my browser, I had no idea what I was looking at. The look and feel of the game reminded me of those old text-based games from the late ‘90s, back when the majority of computers couldn’t handle gaming very well. The graphics of Sandcastle Builder look like they were made in Microsoft Paint, what with perfectly lined boxes and two stick figures, which seem to be somberly looking out into the ocean from their little beach. Everything is so basic and nostalgic looking, but that is where the game comes to deceive the player. This game is so mind-bogglingly complex, that even when you think you’re far into the game, you’re just as likely to still be in the beginning stages.

The first thing you’ll notice when you start playing is the giant picture of the couple on the beach. When you begin clicking the picture, you get sand, and when you get enough sand, it creates a sand castle. You can spend sand castles on either Sand Tools or Castle Tools. When you’ first start clicking, you’ll notice you get a castle pretty easily, and it’s like that for the first few, but after a little bit, gaining more sand castles becomes difficult, which is not like Cookie Clicker at all, considering gaining cookies and buying upgrades is very easy.

At first you’ll want to get into buying NewPixBots, because these are the things which will help you get more castles once you get going, as long as you aren’t clicking. I know, that doesn’t make very much sense, but once you get the hang of the game, you’ll understand better. The game can be very confusing in the beginning, but the main thing you should know is that this game, while very similar to Cookie Clicker, operates very differently. Cookie Clicker is a very fast paced game. You can leave your computer for half an hour and return to find yourself with a bunch of cookies. Sandcastle Builder isn’t like that whatsoever. This is a lot slower, so if you’re one of those people who enjoys taking their time and really getting involved with their games, you should definitely check this one out.

#2 – Sakura Clicker

If you’re a fan of Japanese anime, with anime girls wearing revealing clothes, then Sakura Clicker is the perfect game for you. It’s fairly NSFW, so I would steer clear from playing it around other people. Unless you don’t have any shame, in which case, feel free to play it with whomever around. The goal of this game is much like an RPG, where you level up your party and defeat bosses. You start the game as an anime girl, and you click other anime girls’ bodies to gain gold. With gold you can buy more members for your party, but only the one girl (on the right) with stay on screen, as you’re mainly her. You can also purchase upgrades to make your party stronger.

The cool thing about this game is how customizable it is. You can purchase different sets of clothes and hair for your anime character, which is a feature other clicker games don’t have. The game is based on stages, and every 10th stage is a boss. If you can’t defeat the boss, you can go back to the previous level and train more. When you’re fighting a normal enemy, you have an unlimited amount of time, but if you’re up against a boss, you only get 30 seconds. If you run out of time, you simply start the level over again. Each enemy and boss is a different type of half animal, so you’ll be seeing a lot of cat girls.

#1 – Clicker Heroes

Much like Sakura Clicker, Clicker Heroes is a full-fledged RPG, and in my opinion, is the absolute best clicker game of them all. If you’re looking for an idle-game that you can really dedicate some time too, and you don’t feel like starring at anime boobs all day, I 100% recommend playing Clicker Heroes.

You begin the game by clicking the monsters that show up on the right side of the screen. After you defeat them, depending on which stage you are on, you gain a certain percentage of gold. With gold you can hire adventurers. These adventurers join your party, and when you acquire more gold, you level them up, making them stronger. Each adventurer has their own unique gimmick, which becomes even more noticeable when you buy their upgrades. Most adventurer upgrades will double their DPS, but certain characters will give you cool skills to use and even give you bonuses to make the game easier, like earning more gold after you defeat each monster.

This game also has bosses, which appear every 5th stage. It’s easy to go back to previous stages in case you aren’t strong enough and you need to grind for more gold to upgrade your characters. The stages change themes every time you defeat a boss, so you aren’t forced to look at the same boring thing all the time. The change of scenery really helps too, as a lot of things will pop up on the screen at random intervals, which give bonus currency and skills, but I’ll let you figure out what those things are.

Both Clicker Heroes and Sakura Clicker are on Steam and they’re 100% free, so you should definitely check them out. They aren’t played on your browser, but rather a new window which pops up.

From popular cable television shows, to Japanese video games, there’s a different theme of clicker game for everyone. You may ask yourself why you’d even bother playing games like this.

Starting off the list of the highest paid musicians is none other than British band The Rolling Stones. Lead singer Mick Jagger started the band back in 1960 with childhood friend Keith Richards. After discussing music they decided to start a band and went on to record demos with fellow band mates Tony Chapman, Brian Jones, Ian Steward, Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman. Early on in their career they would cover Blues songs by artists like Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters. Muddy Waters is actually how they came up with their bands name as the legendary Blues singer has a song titled “The Rollin’ Stones” and Mick Jagger decided to roll with it.

After only a few years they got signed by manager Andrew Loog Oldham who actually heard of them when fellow British band The Beatles suggested he take a look at one of their demos. They ended up being signed to Decca Records who was hugely impressed by them and wanted them on their label so bad that they gave them complete control over their recordings. Their career started slow as they didn’t have many popular songs but they started to receive more publicity around 1964 when they appeared on shows like The Ed Sullivan Show.

They entered their golden age of fame the following year when they released their second LP titled “The Rolling Stones No. 2”. Several songs from that album started topping charts in the United Kingdom and the United States. The band spent the next decade touring all around the world, including in places like Australia and New Zealand. Similar to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones became one of the “British Invasion” bands from the 1960s. To this day they are one of the most widely known bands in music history and entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989.

#9 – Lady Gaga ($59 Million per Year)

Pop icon Lady Gaga got her dose of fame back in 2009 with her hit single “Just Dance”. Her love for music began when she was just four years old and learned to play piano by ear. She continued playing and writing music for ten years and when she was fourteen she started performing her songs at “open mic night” across several bars in New York. She then went on to study at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where she studied song writing and method acting but she dropped out at the age of nineteen to instead focus solely on her music career.

Major label Def Jam Records heard of Gaga and immediately signed her to their record, although they would drop her after only three months. Devastated, Gaga went through a complete attitude shift which would go on to greatly influence the type of music she wanted to sing and write. The once quiet, Christian girl would turn into the scantily clad Gaga we all knew back in 2009. Singer/producer Akon would eventually meet her and fell in love with her vocals. Together they started producing music and in 2008, Lady Gaga’s first album titled “The Fame” was released. The album would produce the two mega popular songs “Just Dance” and “Poker Face”, quickly turning Gaga into a global celebrity.

After the success of “The Fame”, Gaga would go on to produce an EP titled “The Fame Monster” which is basically a sequel to “The Fame”. It produced hits like “Telephone” and “Bad Romance” and then two years later in 2011 she released her next album titled “Born This Way” although it wasn’t nearly as successful. In 2013 her album “ARTPOP” was released and released alongside was the single “Applause”. These days Gaga is less focused on her music and more focused on her acting career. She starred in the most recent season of the popular show “American Horror Story: Hotel” which won her a Golden Globe for Best Actress.

#8 – Fleetwood Mac ($59.9 Million per Year)

Fleetwood Mac is a band that formed back in the late 1960s by band members Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Other members throughout the years include Bob Welch, Peter Green and Jeremy Spencer. The England rock band has seen a tremendous amount of success and has gone on to sell more than 50 million albums.

The band would receive mainstream success in 1975 when they released their album “Fleetwood Mac”. They had several hit songs including “Say You Love Me” and “Landslide”. During this time the band was falling apart as there was constant drama between the band members. To top off the relationship drama they were also dealing with their new found fame and being involved with drugs and alcohol. Nonetheless the band persevered and went on to release the album “Rumours” followed by the album “Tusk” and then began a year and a half long tour across the world.

The drama continued well into the 1980s and 1990s when two of the bands lead members (Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks) got into physical alterations which lead to Buckingham leaving the band and Nicks leaving soon after. In 1995 the remaining band members released an album called “Time” which was an overall failure, leading to the band officially disbanding. A few weeks later Fleetwood and Buckingham began working together again which eventually lead to a reunion. In 1996, Nicks, Fleetwood and Buckingham met up to record the song “Twisted” for the film “Twister” which helped lead to a live album called “The Dance” being released, which ended up being very successful.

The following year in 1998, Fleetwood Mac joined the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame although post-being inducted they took a long break from one another. All of the members continued doing performances on their own, especially Stevie Nicks who enjoys working alongside Sheryl Crow. Just recently they announced the original members were working together on a new album which will officially be their last.

#7 – Sean “Diddy” Combs ($60 Million per Year)

Sean “Diddy” Combs was born in 1969 to parents Melvin Earl and Janice Combs. Growing up in New York, Combs would become familiar with both music and football at an early age. He played football for Mount Saint Michael Academy and even won a division title, followed by attending school at Howard University where he attempted to get a degree in business. Instead he decided to drop out and got an internship at major record company Uptown Records and then went on to start his very own alongside friend The Notorious B.I.G. Together they started Bad Boy Records and went on to produce songs alongside musicians like Usher, Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men.

Diddy would then go on to become a rapper himself and release hits like “Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down” and “I’ll Be Missing You” – a track he dedicated to The Notorious B.I.G. who was recently murdered. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Diddy released several other major albums and records under his own label.

While he did drop out of University, Diddy would still become a prominent business man and has gone on to start several business avenues. He started a clothing brand called “Sean John” which wound up winning him several fashion designer awards, a film production company and two restaurants that he named after his sons. Diddy considers himself a family man and he and his son Quincy appeared on an episode of “My Super Sweet 16” where he purchased his son a $350,000 vehicle.

Outside of his business projects, Diddy is also very charitable. He started his own charity called “Daddy’s House Social Programs” where he helps homeless youths get off the streets and even helped victims of Hurricane Katrina by donating over $1 million.

#6 – Justin Timberlake ($63.5 Million per Year)

Justin Timberlake was born in 1981 to parents Lynn and Randall Timberlake. At an early age he began singing country music but after witnessing Janet Jackson perform he was “inspired to be like her” as she had an incredible amount of energy and singing power. In the 1990s he would go on to appear on two television shows – “Star Search” and “The Mickey Mouse Club” where he met future *NSYNC bandmate JC Chasez. Other notable future celebrities include Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears, whom he would later date for a number of years.

In 1995, Justin Timberlake would headline the boy band *NSYNC which would go on to become one of the most popular boy bands in music history. While the rest of the bandmates were popular, none of them had the star power that Justin Timberlake had so when they went on an indefinite hiatus in 2002, it was a surprise to no one that Timberlake’s solo career would blossom. Later that year, Timberlake released the album “Justified” which went on to sell a few million copies and spawned the singles “Rock Your Body” and “Cry Me a River”. Four years later in 2006 he released the album “FutureSex/LoveSounds” which sold more than ten million copies worldwide. Afterwards he would take a break from music and start focusing on his acting career. Over the next few years he co-starred in movies like “In Time” and “The Social Network”. He returned to music in 2013 with the release of duo albums “The 20/20 Experience” and “The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2”, the former being the best-selling album of the year.

Justin Timberlake has come a long way since his early boy band days. He is currently working on doing vocal work for an animated movie that is set to release later on this year as well as helping compose a soundtrack for another movie alongside his wife Jessica Biel.

#5 – Calvin Harris ($66 Million per Year)

Calvin Harris was born in 1984 in Scotland and first became interested in electronic music as a kid when he would experiment making demos in his bedroom. He would go on to study at Dumfries High School and then get a job at a supermarket so that he could save up money to purchase DJ gear. He ended up moving to London in an attempt to enter the music scene but wouldn’t have much luck. After his first couple of singles flopped, he moved back home to Scotland and started becoming active on MySpace. It was there he finally began gaining traction and got picked up by a record studio.

His first album was titled “I Created Disco” and was released in 2007. The entire album was written and performed by Calvin Harris and went on to chart in the top 10 United Kingdom albums chart. His success caught the attention from several other upcoming artists including Kylie Minogue and Dizzee Rascal who anxiously wanted to perform alongside him. 2010 would be another good year for Calvin Harris as he released his second studio album but it wasn’t until 2011 when he released his third album titled “18 Months” that he would receive international fame. He went on to collaborate with some major celebrities like Rihanna and released “We Found Love” and “Where Have You Been”. He also released “Feel So Close” which went on to become a huge success.

His popularity would only increase as he’s gone on to remix songs with the likes of Katy Perry, Ellie Goulding, Snoopy Dogg, Taylor Swift and Kanye West. He’s become a very philanthropic person and has donated and campaigned for several charities, including the Campaign Against Living Miserably, an event that brings attention to suicidal youths in London.

#4 – The Eagles ($73.5 Million per Year)

The Eagles is a band that was created in 1971 by founding members Glenn Frey, Bernie Leadon, John Boylan, Linda Ronstadt and Don Henley. They quickly started working on an album and in 1972 released said album they titled “Eagles”. The first single “Take It Easy” went on to become a top 40 hit and the album itself was a complete success. Other hit songs include “Witchy Woman” and “Peaceful Easy Feeling”. That led The Eagles to their sophomore album “Desperado” although it wasn’t as successful as their debut album was.

In 1974 they released their third album “On the Border” which had a few successful hits and then a year later in 1975 they released “One of Those Nights” which turned The Eagles into international superstars. Their first two albums were primarily country-sounding while albums three and four were primarily rock music. This proved to be the right decision as it led them to their first Grammy award win for Best Performance by a Group or Duo. In 1976 they released two albums. The first was a “Greatest Hits” album which has sold nearly 50 million albums to date. The second was “Hotel California” which turned out to be another success for the band. Their next album wouldn’t be for another two years and in 1980 the band unexpectedly broke up. They didn’t perform together for nearly fifteen years and in 1994 they got back together for seven years.

In 2007 the band reunited and once more released their first album in nearly thirty years. Since then they have been touring the world and producing more hit singles. On January 16, 2016, Glenn Frey tragically passed away from pneumonia after recovering from intestinal surgery. The band performed “Take It Easy” during the 58th Annual Grammy Awards in his honor. Frey was 67 years old.

#3 – Taylor Swift ($80 Million per Year)

Country-Pop music icon Taylor Swift was born in 1989 to parents Scott Kingsley and Andrea Gardner Swift. When Swift was nine years old she attended musical theater classes and simultaneously travelled back and forth between classes and Broadway to receive vocal lessons. Feeling inspired by notable Country music acts Shania Twain and Faith Hill, Taylor Swift and her parents decided to relocate to Nashville, Tennessee so she could focus solely on her musical career. Initially she had a difficult time being signed, as not many people were interested in a fourteen year old girl writing and singing Country music but she eventually landed a deal with independent record label “Big Machine Records”. After being signed she spent a lot of her free time after school writing music in preparation for her debut album.

“Taylor Swift” was the title of her debut album and it released in October 2006. It initially did not sell many copies but since its release it has sold more than five million copies. She started opening for other notable Country music bands like Rascal Flatts and Brad Paisley. This would boost Swift’s popularity exponentially as her target audience of teenage girls fell in love with her catchy love songs. This lead to her second studio album “Fearless”, which helped Swift win her infamous MTV Video Music Award that Kanye West so famously interrupted as she was giving her acceptance speech.

2010 would be another great year for Swift as she wrote all fourteen songs on her third album “Speak Now”, followed by 2012 album “Red” and 2014 album “1989” which included hit singles like “Shake It Off” and “Bad Blood”. Taylor Swift has easily gone on to become one of music’s biggest influences as she is routinely seen as a role model for women of all ages.

#2 – Garth Brooks ($90 Million per Year)

Even if you don’t listen to Country music, you sure as hell know who Garth Brooks is. Named Country music’s “Artist of the ‘90s”, Brooks entered the scene in 1985 when he started playing at clubs and bars in Oklahoma. While he initially wanted to play Rock and Roll, he changed his mind after listening to the song “Unwound” by Country artist George Strait and decided at that moment to play Country music. Later on that year he was visited by entertainment attorney Rod Phelps who urged Brooks to move out to Nashville. Reluctantly in 1987 he and his then-wife moved out to Nashville where Brooks would start writing for his debut album.

Garth Brooks released album “Garth Brooks” in 1989 and it was a smash hit. He toured alongside Kenny Rogers and played his hit singles including “If Tomorrow Never Comes” and “The Dance”. His second album “No Fences” was released in 1990 and to this day is his highest selling album of all time. In total it spent 23 weeks at number one on Billboard’s Top Country Albums and featured some of his greatest songs – “The Thunder Rolls” and “Unanswered Prayers” being two of them. This followed suit by his third album in 1991 called “Ropin’ the Wind”, his fourth album in 1992 called “The Chase”, “In Pieces” in 1993, “Fresh Horses” in 1995 and “Sevens” in 1997. He also released an album called “Scarecrow” in 2001 and then took a much needed break from music.

Since then he has returned to music by doing more world tours and even does a show in Las Vegas which has gone on to become critically praised. Garth Brooks is married to Country artist Trisha Yearwood and together they are working on a joint Christmas album that is set to release this holiday season. In total, Brooks has sold more than 160 million albums, making him the best-selling solo artist of all time.

#1 – Katy Perry ($135 Million per Year)

Finishing off the list of the highest paid musicians is the California Gurl herself, Katy Perry. Perry was born Katheryn Hudson in Santa Barbara, California in 1984 to extremely religious parents Mary Christine and Maurice Keith Hudson. Growing up she moved around the country a lot and primarily listened to gospel music, as her parents didn’t allow her to listen to anything else. Between the ages of 9 – 17, Perry would sing in church choirs, took dancing lessons and wrote music. During this time she would draw inspiration from notable bands like Queen, The Beatles, Madonna and Alanis Morissette. She states that those artists made her feel empowered and helped influence her into the artist she is today.

Her career started in 2001 when she released her first album titled “Katy Hudson”. While it was praised by critics, it went on to sell only about two hundred copies. This led to then record company Red Hill Records to drop her from their label but she was picked up by Island Def Jam Music Group, who dropped her before her album could release. She was then picked up by Capitol Records who felt Perry was going to be “the next big thing” and they were absolutely right as her album “One of the Boys” released in 2008 and featured her breakout single “I Kissed a Girl” followed by “Hot n Cold”, turning Perry into a household name.

The album “Teenage Dream” was released in 2010 and featured five number one hits in a row with “California Gurls”, “Teenage Dream”, “Firework”, “E.T.”, and “Last Friday Night”. Five singles reaching number one is almost unheard of as the only other artist to achieve that was Michael Jackson. Her next single was “The One That Got Away” although it peaked at number three. Her next album was titled “Prism” and would be a bit darker and includes song like “Dark Horse”, “Roar” and “Unconditionally”.

Katy Perry is considered to be a sex symbol but beneath her incredibly good looks is a talented singer and song writer who earned her way to the top. She has gone on to top Forbes’ list of the highest-paid female artist for several years in a row.

The post Highest Paid Musicians in the World appeared first on Gazette Review.
