Rebecca Rescate was no stranger to the Shark Tank. In series two of the show, back in May 2011, she had successfully struck a deal with Kevin Harrington for her product ‘CitiKitty’, a toilet training idea for cats. Alongside the publicity she received from the show, Kevin had helped her catapult her business to great heights with sales figures in the millions annually. Her success and business sense soon brought other entrepreneurs to her door.

Chris Hindley was a work colleague of Rebecca’s husband and approached her with his quirky but clever idea, the ‘Hoodie Pillow’. He wanted Rebecca to become his partner, but she was unwilling initially to invest in the company, instead offering to help Chris to get his business up and running. He asked her again after developing the product and this time she agreed to get behind the Hoodie Pillow. Using her own existing CitiKitty storage and distribution networks she was quickly able to incorporate Hoodie Pillow into her product line with minimal disruption.

When Chris and Rebecca appeared on Shark Tank in early 2013 they were seeking $90,000 for a 15% stake in the company.

Rebecca introduced herself to the sharks. She reminded them of her own successful appearance on the show previously and spoke about the success that CitiKitty had enjoyed since then. She asserted that her own experience had helped her to see the huge potential in The Hoodie Pillow.

Chris’s relaxed pitch spoke of the hoodie as one of the most popular items of clothing, but he mentioned the inherent problems with its design. It was impractical when lying down and the draw-strings pulled at the neck.

As soon as Chris had finished speaking, Rebecca jumped in, the pitched appeared to have been rehearsed extensively. After claiming that they had the answer to the problem of uncomfortable hoodies, the pair revealed their product, the Hoodie Pillow.

There was some slightly awkward laughter from the sharks as they finally saw the product for the first time. A red hood had been attached to a large red pillow, the Pillow Hoodie was appropriately named, that was exactly what it was.

‘Theres no discomfort, It allows you to turn your head into your comfy spot with ease.’ Chris explained. ‘Adjustable draw-strings allow you to block out light and dampen sound.’ he continued before explaining that there was a handy pocket included as well. If there was one thing the constantly grinning Chris knew, it was how to sell a hoodie.

Rebecca asked Daymond John if he’d like to try the Pillow Hoodie on. The stylish fashion guru was more than happy to. ‘I’ve sold a few hoods in my time.’ he commented as he stood up.

Stretching out on a couch, Daymond slipped on the red hood and rested his head back on the pillow. It was a slightly surreal sight to see the immaculately dressed Daymond in such a relaxed pose wearing a red hood. The sharks were enjoying it greatly.

‘I don’t think you could look more ridiculous.’ joked Robert as Daymond pointed a remote at him, perhaps hoping to find a mute button.

‘Or more relaxed.’ pointed out Rebecca, trying to keep things on track. ‘So far we’ve sold over 3,000 units. And we only launched eight weeks ago.’ she continued earnestly, but the sharks barely noticed. They were too busy enjoying the sight of Daymond wearing the hoodie and playing for laughs. Barbara Corcoran was almost choking with laughter.

Kevin O’Leary wanted to get back to business, he asked about CitiKitty and how business was going. Rebecca informed him that the company had grown steadily, the current years sales were expected to reach $5 million.

‘Did you invent this product?’ Kevin asked Rebecca. She confirmed that Chris had invented it before approaching her to become a partner.

‘So you just got on board as an opportunist?’ asked Kevin.

‘I think they call me a mini-shark.’ answered Rebecca before confirming that she had bought a 30% stake in the company for a $15,000 investment.

Kevin asked about the valuation of the company, pointing out that when Rebecca had invested in the company it had been valued at around $50,000. He wanted to know how the current valuation of $600,000 had been calculated.

Chris explained that Rebecca had invested in the business when it was just an idea, it was now a proven product with an impressive early sales record. The Hoodie Pillow had also received a large amount of publicity, featuring on Good Morning America and The Today Show amongst other media promotions. ‘People see the Hoodie Pillow and they buy it.’ he asserted.

Robert admitted he could see the functionality of CitiKitty, it solved a problem. He wanted to know what problem the Hoodie Pillow solved.

Rebecca explained that there were 30 million students in America right at that moment who were laying within four feet of somebody else.

‘They’re all looking to spend their money on something stupid?’ asked Mark Cuban.

‘Its only twenty bucks.’ said Rebecca, before explaining the cost to produce it was only five dollars.

Daymond asked if the product had a patent. Chris confirmed that there were design and utility patents pending.

Kevin asked what the $90,000 investment was to be used for.

‘High-cost Low-yield marketing.’ answered Rebecca. When pressed for more details from Robert, she elaborated. It involved social marketing and online promotion in addition to a commercial that was in the pipeline. She stressed how effective a single Facebook video had been at directing traffic to the company website.

Chris announced that the company now had another product, it was essentially a Hoodie Pillow mini, a hood with a padded ring around the neck. Chris demonstrated it and it looked far less cumbersome than the home version of the Hoodie Pillow, smaller and able to be easily stuffed into a pocket. It was fairly cool looking as well, the sharks seemed to like it and made appreciative noises.

‘The reason I like that is it solves a problem.’ Robert said, looking much more interested now.

‘Can you bundle the two products together?’ asked Kevin.

Rebecca confirmed that they could and gave the sharks some more numbers. One and a half billion passengers flew from US airports every year. The Hoodie Pillow not only supported the neck and enabled a more comfortable sleeping experience when sitting down, it could also isolate passengers from their neighbors on a plane. This more streamlined version of the Hoodie Pillow retailed at only $15 and cost $3.50 to manufacture.

Kevin spoke with his usual directness ‘Even though this stuff may be crap, you sell a lot of it, and that’s what matters.’. Rebecca laughed and replied ‘Well thank you.’.

Kevin made an offer. He would supply the requested $90,000 but only in exchange for a one third share of the business. Rebecca and Chris would have to ensure that all three of them, equal shareholders, would pay themselves the same amount, at the same time.

‘When it comes time to cash out, I want to wet my beak at the same pace you are.’ explained Kevin, making it all sound entirely reasonable.

‘I’m hearing cash out, that’s all I’m hearing.’ Rebecca replied. ‘I don’t hear anything about helping us grow the business.’.

‘I don’t want to help you grow the business, I just want to invest in it.’ Kevin explained, ‘You haven’t got another offer so you should be careful.’ he continued, and he was right.

Rebecca however, wasn’t rushing to accept Kevin’s deal. There were a few moments of deadlocked silence until Chris made a counter offer to Kevin, he suggested a $100,000 investment in exchange for 25% of the business.

Kevin dismissed that idea, he liked his offer and made it clear he wasn’t going to be changing it.

‘I’d like to hear if there are other offers’ Rebecca said.

Daymond made an offer at this point, but it wasn’t an improvement. Matching Kevin’s existing offer of a 33% stake in exchange for a $90,000 investment. He liked the product and wanted to help sell it, but he was unwilling to offer more. He added some more pressure to the already harassed looking Rebecca and Chris, putting a ten second time limit on his offer before it would be revoked.

Barbara tried to speak but Daymond appeared to be trying to rush the pair into a deal. Unwilling to let Barbara speak he admitted ‘I’m excited and I do not want this price to go up.’

Rebecca again said that she would like to hear what the other sharks had to say, and that was it for Daymond. He rescinded his offer and dropped out of the negotiations.

Barbara Corcoran made an offer, she would invest the required $90,000 but only in exchange for 40% of the business. She added the additional condition that Daymond would take half of the deal, and the sharks would receive a royalty of ten cents per unit sold. She stressed that Daymond was the shark that was best suited to the product and would be best for the business.

Daymond agreed to join Barbara in the deal but Rebecca still wasn’t prepared to give that much of the company away.

Chris asked if Daymond and Barbara would be prepared to accept only 30% of the business. Barbara suggested a figure of 35% but Rebecca stuck to her guns. A 20% stake for $90,000 investment was what she wanted, and it seemed she wasn’t going to agree to less.

Barbara had heard enough by now, unable to get any form of compromise from Rebecca and Chris she dropped out of the negotiations as well.

The deadlock continued for a moment. The only offer still available for Pillow Hoodie was the one from Kevin. It didn’t look as if it was going to be accepted and he was clearly unwilling to amend it.

Suddenly, from nowhere, Robert Herjavec saved the day for Rebecca and Chris. He offered the originally requested amount, $90,000 in exchange for 20% of the business. He admitted he had missed out on investing in Rebecca once before and wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice. Chris accepted the offer and Robert shook hands with them both. After a tense and deadlocked round of negotiations, the tough ‘mini-shark’ Rebecca had achieved the deal she wanted.

Unfortunately, the deal with Robert never went through. Still, the show had a profound effect on the business. Shortly after the segment aired, their sales went up to 4,000 units—a significant increase from what they were doing before appearing on Shark Tank. And by the end of the month, they had sold more than 8,000 units.

Fast forward to 2026 and the company is still up and running. If anything, their popularity has only increased over the past few years. For one thing, their products are now available at a number of retail stores including Bed Bath and Beyond. Not only that but they can also be found on Amazon.

In fact, reviews have been quite positive on the site with many customers praising the product for its sheer comfort. Others have noted that the neck pillows keep the head quite warm during cold nights. While the famous model does love to splurge on all the finer things in life, she has also given back. Kendall set up an eBay account to auction old clothing, the proceeds go to the Children’s Hospital Los Angles. Her family also set up a garage sale, where the proceeds went to Share Our Strength: No Kid Hungry and the Greater Los Angeles Fisher House Foundation.

Kendall also participated in sports for charity.  In 2014, she joined her family and friends at a bowling game for charity.  The proceeds of the event to the Robin Hood Foundation.  In another event, which required a little more cardiovascular activity, she participated in a charity kickball game with her sister Kylie. This event raised money for the charity Symphonic Love, and was attended by multiple celebrities including Chris Brown.

Marina Joyce Kidnap Fears

Marina Joyce is a nineteen year old fashion blogger from Enfield, in North London, England. She began uploading lifestyle, fashion and make-up tutorial videos to her YouTube channel in July 2012 and her bubbly character, combined with her quirky, if slightly optimistic, outlook on life was appealing and endearing. Her fan base grew and by 2016 she had attracted over 600,000 subscribers to her YouTube channel.

Early in 2016 some of Marina’s fans began to notice a disturbing trend in her more recent videos, before she had been articulate and focused, if excitable, but her last few videos seemed to show a far more distracted individual. Her monologues had become repetitive and sometimes bizarre, her constant assurances that she loved her fans appeared over the top and forced, and her followers were beginning to grow concerned.

The worries of those who followed Marina online escalated when she released a video on July 22^nd 2016 entitled ‘Date Outfit Ideas’, her behaviour appeared even more unusual in what should have been a simple video demonstrating a sponsors clothes, but Marina seemed uncomfortable and stiff in the spacious leafy garden of her suburban home, and for one fan it was all too suspicious, and he had to tell the World about the danger he believed Marina was in.

The anonymous fan had compiled a list of worrying points in Marina’s recent videos, it was a comprehensive list, covering a multitude of incidents in several videos, including what appeared to be a rifle in the corner of Marina’s room during a July 8^th video, which would be highly unusual considering the UK’s strict gun laws. He also highlighted several instances throughout her videos where she had seemed worried, jumpy and constantly casting worried glances beyond the camera, but it was the ‘Date Outfit Ideas’ video that had finally caused him to speak out.

In the video he had noticed someone instructing Marina where to stand for her presentation, bruises on her arms, fearful glances beyond the camera, and most disturbingly of all, Marina whispering ‘Help me’. The fan considered the possibility that Marina was taking amphetamines, or ‘speed’, and that could account for her strange behaviour, but after weighing it up, he asserted the very real likelihood that Marina had been kidnapped by persons unknown, and even worse the kidnapper was controlling all of Marina’s social media output.

By July 25^th the posting had been viewed more than half a million times, and #SaveMarinaJoyce became one of the top trending hash-tags on Twitter within 24 hours. A multitude of YouTube videos appeared examining the available evidence, and even though it appeared flimsy at best to many, a large number of fans became seriously concerned. One phoned the Enfield police to report that Marina was in danger, he recorded the conversation and uploaded it to YouTube, the police receptionist sounded professional, but unconvinced.

Marina meanwhile was giving off mixed signals, as her subscriber count on YouTube rocketed past one million, a fan asked if she was OK on her Facebook page, she responded ‘Yes’, and then a second time with ‘No’. The second response disappeared within minutes but one alert fan had taken a screen-shot, and the frenzy of attention from worried fans increased even more. A popular YouTuber, Daz Black, claimed to have spoken with Marina, and he confirmed that she was fine. Fans were still not convinced and bombarded Black with skepticism. Marina invited fans to meet her at an early morning party in London the following week, but within an hour Daz Black had tweeted a cryptic warning to fans, telling them not to attend the meet-up, and to ‘Let the police handle this’. Another user claimed that the Bethnall Green area of London where the party was to be held was dangerous and the scene of frequent shootings. Bethnall Green residents pointed out the complete lack of accuracy about the statement, but their voices were drowned in an online wave of speculation. A few people began to speculate that ISIS had been the ones to kidnap Marina.

The Police Get Involved in The Marina Joyce Case

More calls for the police to investigate the matter flooded the Enfield Metropolitan Police Twitter account and soon they were forced to take some kind of action. Early in the morning of July 27^th Enfield police finally put the matter to rest for once and for all, by tweeting ‘Officers have visited YouTube user Marina Joyce. She is safe and well’, and that should have been the end of it, but a large number of people had begun to notice even more inconsistencies in Marina’s previous postings and videos by now, and ‘The Marina Joyce Conspiracy’ began to appear in many dark corners of the internet, and the speculation continued to grow.

By July 28^th Marina’s subscribers on YouTube had jumped to above 2 million, up 1.5 million in just three days. She appeared in a live stream for about an hour in order to allay concerns for her safety, but the platform crashed for many interested viewers due to the amount of attention it received and they were unable to see the show for themselves. Several misleading screen shots appeared, apparently showing a masked figure behind Marina, or reflected in her eyes, but many of them were just the work of pranksters, either faked or deliberately giving the wrong impression. Others appeared to still be genuinely concerned for Marina’s safety, but she steadfastly maintained that she was fine, although every moment of her appearance was scrutinized for further clues. Many new inconsistencies appeared for those who wanted to see them badly enough.

On July 29^th Enfield Police tweeted that they had once again spoken to Marina Joyce in person, and that she remained perfectly safe. Finally the message that Marina had not been kidnapped began to filter through, and the swarms of interested followers of the story began to turn on Marina herself. The #SaveMarinaJoyce hash tag was replaced by #BoycottMarinaJoyce as Marina was bombarded by accusations of the whole thing being a publicity stunt. Marina had insisted she was fine throughout the drama, one fan asked why she had not addressed the concerns of viewers properly, Marina replied that she didn’t think it was that important, and reminded him that she had been insisting she was safe for days.

With the second tweet from Enfield police the attention gradually drifted off, most were convinced that Marina had not been kidnapped, but the general consensus seemed to be that it either had been a publicity stunt, or that Marina Joyce was suffering from a mental illness, as evidenced by her recent erratic behaviour. Marina was accused of drug-use and attending raves, and the early morning party she had invited followers to had been a rave style event, as many pointed out. But few bothered to check the events website for themselves, it clearly showed that the event was an alcohol-free early morning dance party, with fruit-juice galore, but not an ecstasy tablet in sight, it just wasn’t that kind of rave.

With Marina’s subscriber count levelling out at about 2.2 million, and the ‘Date Outfit Ideas’ video now viewed over 35 million times, considerably more than the average 40,000 views she had received on most of her videos before the storm, Marina continued to put out more videos, and even though all but the most deluded fans finally admitted that she obviously wasn’t being kidnapped or coerced in any way, her speech patterns were even more bizarre, repetitive, and at times almost incomprehensible. Her millions of new followers on YouTube were not all there for the fashion advice either, many of them appeared to only be interested in speculating on her mental condition. Marina’s new found popularity on YouTube has altered the engagement experience that she enjoyed with her fans previously, beyond all recognition.

What’s Marina Joyce Doing Now in 2018- Recent Updates

And at that point the story of Marina Joyce probably should have ended, but Marina’s eccentric behaviour didn’t stop there. On August 7^th she posted a bizarre update on her Facebook page, declaring that she wanted to be a ‘God like Buddha’ from now on and wanted to be called ‘Goddess Marina’. She explained that she had obtained secret knowledge about ‘The Afterlife’ and could contact the dead, or at least she could contact ‘humans during the afterlife’, which I took to mean speaking with the dead. From that point on things became even more strange – Meditation, Crystal healing and spiritual guidance were all mentioned, but the culmination of the whole post came when Marina revealed that she wanted to build a temple, in Peru. She did ask her followers to contribute towards the costs of the project, but this was not an attempt to scam her fan base, this was a serious request from someone with an extremely lofty vision of how she could make the World a better place, and by doing that, Marina asserted that she would be able to ‘Live forever’.

Whatever Marina’s mental state is at the moment, it’s clear that if her post was sincere, then she appears to be suffering from delusions of grandeur, which although in itself is an indication of a bi-polar disorder, it’s also a symptom of many other things, some of which are quite common. Perhaps now, with the frenzy of attention directed somewhere else, cyberspace can let Marina Joyce get back to being what she really wants to be, a slightly quirky and sometimes eccentric fashion blogger, for if she does have any other deep-seated issues, surely that’s for her friends and family, the ones who really know and love her to deal with, rather than the concerned masses of fans who don’t really know her at all. Everybody is entitled to privacy, even if they are on the internet.

One of the largest fashion centers in Europe, Madrid is part of the world-wide Mercedes-Benz fashion week circuit. Placed between the New York and Milan fashion shows, Madrid has kept its place in the fashion world as a mix between simple and old world elegance. One of the more popular designers from the area, Prada caused some waves with fashion designs based off of post-it’s that looked remarkably similar to several fashions of the 1930s and ’40s in the 2015 Madrid fashion week.

8. Berlin

Berlin has long been a place where modern art meets every day needs. In fashion, it is no different. With a fashion show literally called Bread and Butter, Berlin seeks to take what is high brow and show it in a more accessible light, allowing for designers of both the high brow and progressive to come together. Another show that’s wildly popular in the fashion world is StyleNite, which is unique in the fact that many of the fashion models would be unusual choices anywhere else; Disabled, amputated and elderly models have all been featured in this show as a means to be inclusive in the world of fashion.

7. Barcelona

Despite having been a major textile city for centuries, Barcelona has become a fashion capital only relatively recently. With the influences of newer aged brands such as Desigual (who operate out of both Barcelona and Ibiza), this Spanish city has seen an explosion of different fashion trends. Typically very colorful, or inspired by street art, Barcelonian high fashion can be seen as wearable urban sprawl, which while unorthodox, is also eye catching and becoming more popular by the day. In terms of fashion shows, Barcelona has two professional designer shows a year, with rumours circulating that a more main stream conference may be in the works within the next few years.

An ancient home of civilization alongside fashion, Rome has had a long history of refinement. Home to the largest fashion house in Italy, House of Biagiotti, which is headed by Laura Biagiotti is also one of the most awarded fashion design firms in the world. Most popular in Roman fashion this year are fitted shirts and blouses and as per usual, finely crafted leather footwear, which is as popular as sports shoes are in the rest of the world.

5. Los Angeles

Making it to the midway mark is one of the most well known cities in the world, Los Angeles. Home of the Neo-Bohemian fashion movement a la Rachel Zoe and the Upscale Casual looks of James Perse, there is something for everyone in the City of Angles. With Hollywood and Rodeo Drive in such close proximity, Los Angeles has influenced many looks on the big screen since the days of when Casablanca was a new premier. Of all the fashion capitals, Los Angeles is one of the most eco-sensitive, as many fashion labels in the city promote sustainable production and dye testing that can allow for high fashion with low impact.

The big apple is the current fashion capital of the United States. With the most recent New York Fashion Show premiering in September, it’s forecast that many of the designs will fall back on 60’s and 70’s chic while also exploring eccentric floral designs on dresses. With some of the biggest names in fashion retail such as Saks Fifth Avenue calling New York home, fashion is remarkably accessible in this city, making plenty of catwalk fashion items available for sale to residents and visitors alike.

The headquarters location for Jimmy Choo, Galliano, and many more designers, London is a fashion center if there ever was one. An international city by anyone’s definition, London has seen influences on their fashion from every corner of the world, and invites the creativity of the entirety of the Commonwealth of nations. Known for exquisite tailoring, many of the designs presented this year by British designers featured a contemporary nature with artistic flair that is both somewhat subdued while breaking convention.

Home of the world famous Paris Fashion Week, no fashion city list would be complete without this capital of fine threads. The place of both high brow and simply elegance in dress, Paris is often seen as the Mecca of all things news and gossip for designers from New York to Milan and everywhere in between. Some of the most popular designers from Paris are Dior and Chanel who have taken the world by storm with some of the most elegant designs which have sparked countless trends through the decades.

Topping off our list of the top fashion cities of 2016 is the home of the Nordic Bohemian movement, Cophenhagen. Having a very Avante Garde approach, even in what is sold at conventional stores, the fashion halls of Copenhagen tend to produce clothes that are remarkably popular among other cities, Los Angeles in particular. Doutzen Kroes had never even heard of Victoria’s Secret when she first moved to New York. The Dutch girl thought of herself as somewhat of a tomboy, and she didn’t really grow up thinking that she would become a model. However, the fashion industry embraced Kroes whole-heartedly, whether she liked it or not. In 2005, she was featured on the cover of Vogue Italia. In 2008, she became an Angel for Victoria’s Secret. Kroes had a fantastic year in 2013, appearing on a total of 9 Vogue covers in that one year alone. This drastic increase in visibility resulted in her seeing an explosion of popularity (in 2014, she was the second highest paid model in the world), which she has been able to effectively sustain over the course of the last couple of years. The Brazilian was also a spokesmodel for Maybelline between the years 2003 and 2010. Lima’s extensive portfolio also includes work with fashion brands like Versace, H&M, and Prada.
