Of all the off-camera roles a budding football star can make, none are quite as uneasy a position to be in as a member of a team’s practice squad. Not a fully fledged player, but certainly good enough to make it past the minor leagues, the Practice Squad is an odd amalgamation of players who didn’t quite make the draft, players who did but may have not made it a whole season due to injury, or some other reason.

As one can expect, they practice with their respective NFL team as a means of training up the primary team to peak performance. But how much do they make? Keep reading to find out the answers and more!

Average Salary for an NFL Practice Squad Player In 2026 – $102,000

Practice squad players who have played less than two seasons earn around $11.5K per week (this will go up to $16.7K in 2030) or $207K every 18 weeks. After gaining two years of experience, they will receive a minimum of $15.K per week or $277K every 18 weeks. It’s also important to note that their salaries do count toward their team’s salary cap.

Note: There isn’t a fixed salary for these players; only the minimum and maximum are set (the weekly maximum will go up to $26.25K in 2030). More experienced veterans are free to negotiate the best possible contract

In contrast, rookies on an active roster make a minimum of $705K.

If a practice squad player is promoted to the active roster, he’ll receive the prorated minimum salary according to his experience level. For example, a rookie who’s promoted to the active roster will have his pay increased from $11.5K to $39K.

A practice squad player can also be temporarily promoted to the 53-man roster if a particular position is needed in a team. Their salary will then be prorated with the set minimum. However, a team can only do this three times before signing the individual to their active roster.

How do you become an NFL Practice Squad Player – Do you need to go to school?

To become an NFL Practice Squad Player, you may not need to go to school per se, but in finding all the eligibility requirements and ways to actually end up on the team you may need a degree in Law.

As to be expected, starting out the path to NFL player and Practice Squad player are on in the same: Start early, play regularly in school, at least to high school, and if not selected then, try to go to college and play hard. Then, you may be selected for further training by the NFL and tossed into the main or Practice Squad. However, determining if you can even go onto said position, and what can be done after is much more tricky.First off, to qualify to work on a Practice Squad, you can’t have a lot of experience in the NFL. In fact, you can’t even have 9 games under your belt even in the most extreme circumstances. Most would be disqualified for this role even with as little as 6 games where they were on the active roster. You can also be disqualified if you have two seasons of what is deemed Free Agency Credit. Likewise, they cannot already have been on the practice roster for 2 seasons previous, with each “season” being a minimum of three weeks. This means that someone can practice for three weeks, twist their ankle, come back a year later, do the same thing, and not be allowed to play in that role again (here’s to hoping nobody has that happen).

As said earlier, this job can land you into the NFL’s Active Squads if you show talent, and many players have that happen. Oddly though, most of these selected players get picked up by other teams, and can be selected throughout the season. For this reason, there’s an oddball of a rule in the NFL. Practice Squad Players can be picked up by an opposing team, but they have to do so at least 6 days before the teams play, or 10 days if it happens to be a bye week. Of course there are contracts to sign and waiver off, but these are usually far less binding than those of Active players. This may be particularly attractive for Practice Players who felt they weren’t adequately appreciated by their first team, and would really like to show them what the player has got.

Of course, there can be another way for the Practice Squad player to leave. If ran for two seasons, cut early, or not picked up by an NFL team, then it’s time to retire the dream. Sadly this does happen with some level of regularity, as having 10 spots rotating per team rotating at the very least once every 2 seasons really turns out a lot of players. Still though, they can claim they played with some of the NFL greats, and have a nice looking bank account afterwards.

The post Average NFL Practice Squad Salary In 2026 appeared first on Gazette Review.

Baseball is one of the most popular sports in the world. While it’s not as big as basketball per se, Major League Basketball (MLB) games regularly draw up to 1,600 fans during the regular season. In 2018, the games attracted more than 69 million viewers.

For those who don’t know, MLB is the biggest professional baseball league in the world. It’s also the oldest, having been found in 1876—more than 147 years ago. Not only that but it’s the second-wealthiest professional sports league, just after the NFL by revenue.

Currently, the MLB is comprised of 30 teams, 15 of which belong to the American League (AL) and 15 of which belong to the National League (NL). During the regular season, each team plays 162 games, with six advancing to the finals aka the World Series, where the winner is determined through a best-of-seven playoff.

As of 2026, the Houston Astros are the reigning champions, having beaten the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2022 World Series.

But what about the MLB umpires? Are they paid well? How high are their salaries? For those who are wondering, be sure to keep reading because that’s what we’ll be going over below!

Average Salary for an MLB Umpire in 2026 – $235,000

For the 2022 season, the average MLB umpire took home $235,000. Generally speaking, the monthly salary starts at $2,000 to $2,500 per month and gradually increases over time as they accumulate more experience.

For example, it’s not uncommon for senior umpires to earn more than $2,000 each game. For someone to reach that level, it takes many years as most of them have officiated over 4,000 games.

Not only that but it’s not uncommon for umpires to receive daily expense allowances to cover things such as transportation, food, and hotel. Their location matters as well. For instance, umpires working in the San Francisco area tend to have higher salaries than those working elsewhere in the country.

The yearly take-home figure might seem high at first, but there are several reasons for it. For starters, MLB umpires work up to 162 games during the regular season, each of which can last up to several hours. They must also pay close attention during each game and are tasked with making close calls with the average baseball being thrown at up to 95-plus mph.

Home plate umpires have an even harder task as they must call strikes for the game and with nearly 300 pitches thrown during each match, they must make many decisions under pressure. Add in curveballs and fastballs and keeping track of everything that’s happening is not easy.

Those who serve in Division 1 are also compensated at a higher rate. For one thing, they’re usually eligible to receive a compensation package that includes housing, mileage, and $400 per game. Having said that, the exact amount depends on various factors.

It’s also worth mentioning that the annual salary for MLB umpires has actually gone up over the years.

The Highest-Paid MLB Umpires

Some of the highest-earning MLB umpires include Joe West, Bruce Froemming, and Joe Brinkman.

Bruce Froemming

Bruce Froemming has officiated more than 5,100 games throughout his multi-decade career. In 2007, he became the oldest umpire in MLB history after umpiring at first base in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays-Cleveland Indians game, at the age of 67.

Joe West

Joe West is one of the highest-paid umpires in the MLB with an annual salary of $450,000. He also holds one of the longest tenures in the history of the sport, having worked for a total of 26 seasons. However, he is often considered as one of the most notorious officials, having received criticism from coaches, players, and media representatives.

Joe Brinkman

Joe Brinkman worked as an MLB umpire from 1972 to 2006. During his career, he officiated in three All-Star games and five American League Championship Series.

How Do You Become an MLB Umpire?

Those who are interested in becoming an MLB umpire must meet a set of specific criteria. First and foremost, you must be physically fit with quick reflexes. Strong communication skills are also a must as you’ll likely need to explain your calls during the games. In addition to that, you must have 20/20 vision either with or without corrective lenses.

For those that meet the criteria, the next step is to attend an umpire training school. In the U.S., there are three main schools: the Umpire School in Florida; the Harry Wendelstedt Umpire School in Michigan, and the Jim Evans Academy of Professional Umpiring in Colorado. On average, the school costs are around $2,500.

These professional umpire schools happen for two to five weeks at the beginning of the year under the guidance of current MLB umpires, who will teach the students about the sport’s mechanics, rules, signals, as well as officiating policy. Not only will they be in the classroom but they will also be doing work out in the field.

While each class is different, aspiring umpires will typically learn side-by-side with dozens of other students. However, only the top few will be able to attend an MLB umpire evaluation class. During the evaluation, MLB instructors will look for potential candidates to hire for the short-season Class A or Rookie leagues.

Generally speaking, once an individual makes it to the Triple-A level, which can take up to six years or more, the league will begin considering them for the majors. For example, an individual may be given a temporary opportunity to break into the big leagues if there are scheduling issues or injuries at the Major League level.

Keep in mind, however, that the turnover in the field is low, which means that umpires don’t get as many opportunities to be discovered. For one thing, there’s only one opening a year on average. And even when you’ve gotten to the majors, it can take anywhere from seven to ten years to advance through the ranks.

Currently, one free camp is also scheduled every month from April to August in Houston, California, Cincinnati, Norfolk, Chicago, and San Bernardino. Those who excel in the training program will be invited to the Umpire Prospect Development Camp for further training by professional staff and of course, all expenses will be paid for.

How Much Are MLB Umpires Paid For the World Series?

The World Series is the annual championship event of MLB in the U.S. and Canada. While viewership isn’t as high as it used to be, it’s still a popular event in the United States. In 2022, the playoff games drew more than 11.8 million television viewers.

The way it works, the playoff games start in early October and continue until November every year. The winning team is then awarded the Commissioner’s Trophy, which features 30 gold-plated flags, each of which represents a team.

Given how high-profile the World Series is, it’s not surprising to know that MLB umpires are paid more for working the playoff games.

As of 2026, they are paid anywhere from $17,000 to $20,000 for calling the World Series, and that’s on top of their base salary and expenses. Depending on how many games there are, that works out to be around $2,800 to $5,000 per match. Not too bad at all for a day’s work!

Keep in mind, however, that not all MLB umpires will make it to the World Series. If anything, being a World Series umpire is a prestigious honor- one that only a few will be able to experience.

For the 2022 World Series, James Hoye, Dan Iassogna, Pat Hoberg, Jordan Baker, Alan Porter, Tripp Gibson, and Alan Porter served as the game’s umpires.

Is Being an MLB Umpire a Full-Time Job?

MLB umpires are unique in that they only work six months a year. Given the amount of time they put into the games, however, it can pretty much be considered a full-time job. For example, it’s not uncommon for umpires to work 18 hours a week calling balls and strikes on the field.

As of 2026, there are 70 MLB umpires working in the league.

The post Average MLB Umpire Salary In 2026 – How Much Umps Actually Make appeared first on Gazette Review.

Formed in 1996, the WNBA is the women’s counterpart to the National Basketball Association. Often calling out to the best female basketball players in the world, this league is where some of the best basketball on earth is played. But how much are WNBA players paid? And how can someone become a WNBA player in the first place? Here, we seek to answer those questions.

Average Salary for a WNBA Player In 2026 – $120,000

For the 2020-21 season, the average WNBA salary was $120,000, which is considerably higher than what it was in 2019.

However, there are several players that make well above that figure. Take Diana Taurasi of the Phoenix Mercury, for instance, she is expected to make $228,000 in 2022, making her one of the highest-paid WNBA players of the year. Other examples include Jewell Loyd, Elena Delle Donne, Breanna Stewart, DeWanna Bonner, and Brittney Griner; their projected earnings are all over $220,000.

How much do WNBA rookies make? It depends on when they’re selected in the WNBA draft. For the first four picks, the base salary is around $72,000. For picks 5 to 8, the salary is $69,000 and picks 9 to 12 earn approximately $66,000. Second and third-rounders will receive between $60,000 and $63,000.

Their base salaries will increase by two percent after their first season and if drafted, they’ll receive a 10% bump in pay between year two and year three. They’ll also receive another boost if they’re offered a team option in year four.

Keep in mind, however, that their contracts aren’t protected by the league’s CBA. In other words, they’re only paid for the part of the season when they’re on the roster.

How to Become a WNBA Player – Do You Need to go to School?

To become a WNBA Player is simple enough in terms of pathways, but certainly difficult in terms of the amount of effort one has to put in to become such an athlete.

To begin with, most women who want to join the WNBA have to start playing basketball early to get a good handle on the game and often play throughout school. Also, one must have completed high school or university prior to being signed on by the WNBA, with an age requirement of 22 years old typically being enforced. This allows athletes to pursue academic achievement, and get further athletic conditioning from typically NCAA league Divisions I-III.

Many players are scouted during this period of their careers, and are later invited to professional development camps and later drafts to be selected. The other path is typically reserved for international players. This does not have an education requirement, so long as the player is of age and has completed two seasons of an international league and wishes to transfer into the WNBA. Lastly, there is another non-traditional route for those who don’t wish to attend college. For those individuals who can provide exceptional game footage of the performance and a resume to the WNBA.

This may also require that one joins a community or state-level league so as to keep her skills up, as a good show will land a special invite to draft camp. This camp is used as a development camp as well as an evaluation camp for potential draft picks. To be the best of the best, one thing to be kept in mind is that not only is athletic performance required, but also the ability to handle stress and perform under pressure. If you can manage such things, then you are well on your way to becoming the next WNBA star.

The post Average WNBA Salary 2026 – How Much Do WNBA Players Make? appeared first on Gazette Review.

Did you know that football is the most popular sport in the United States? According to one survey, more than 112 million Americans watch the games on television. Take the NFL events, for example, they attract millions of viewers across various viewing platforms.

It’s not too surprising, though, considering the fact they’re the biggest professional football league in North America. Founded in 1920, the NFL consists of 32 teams, divided between the National Football Conference and the American Football Conference.

Every year, the NFL season begins with a preseason in August, which is followed by a regular season, which runs from September to January. Generally speaking, each team will play a total of 17 games; seven teams from the NFC and AFC will then advance to the playoffs.

It goes without saying but most NFL players are paid handsomely, with many taking home millions of dollars every year.

But what about the NFL referees? How much money do they make? After all, you can’t have a proper football game without them on the field.

Average Salary for NFL Referee in 2026 – $205,000

The official salaries for NFL referees have not been disclosed to the public. However, we can make some assumptions based on the collective bargaining agreement from 2019. According to the document, officials took home an average of $205,000 that year. They also received a substantial pension plan.

At the end of the day, however, the exact amount depends on a number of factors including the referee’s role and seniority. The NFL also pays its officials a flat fee per game, which can be calculated by multiplying 17 through the year (since each season consists of 17 games). On top of that, many also receive large bonuses for refereeing post-season games. For example, it’s not uncommon for an official to receive double their normal pay.

One thing’s for sure, though- they’re the highest-paid among all the leagues (e.g. MLB, NBA, NHL).

It might seem a lot but it makes sense as the referees have to attend a number of practices and functions beyond games to constantly up their in-season performance.

To put things into perspective, an average referee (outside of the NFL) typically makes about $16.20 per hour, which isn’t that much greater than minimum wage.

The Highest Paid NFL Referees In 2026

Some of the highest-paid officials for the 2022-2023 season include Brad Allen, Michael Banks, Barry Anderson, Allen Baynes, and Sara Thomas.

Brad Allen wears uniform number 122 and has been with the NFL since 2014

Brad Allen: Originally from North Carolina, he has been part of the NFL since 2014. He also called the 2012 and 2014 Rose and Sugar Bowls. His current salary is approximately $300,000 as of 2026.

Barry Anderson: A former NC State football player, Barry Anderson has been with the NFL since 1999. In fact, he was a referee on the first all-Black officiating crew in the history of the NFL, during the match between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Rams. Like Allen, his current salary is approximately $300,000.

Michael Banks: Banks has been with the NFL since 2002. The first game that he officiated was between the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills. He currently takes home approximately $250,000 a year.

Requirements to Become an NFL Referee

There are no specific education requirements for NFL officials. Having said that, it’s usually expected that you have at least a bachelor’s degree. While the specific major isn’t as important, those who have a bachelor’s in Sports Management, Sports Health, or a related field, are generally preferred, as they’re more suited for the role.

If anything, experience is more important than education. In fact, extensive experience on the field is one of the main requirements for NFL officials. More specifically, you must have at least ten years of experience officiating football games, at least five of which are for major college teams.

Not only that but individuals must also be in good health as they’re required to be on their feet for long periods of time. Previous experience as a football coach or player is also preferable as it will help prepare you for the part.

Steps on Becoming an NFL Referee

The process of becoming an NFL referee can be described in the following steps:

1. Earn a Bachelor’s Degree From an Accredited College

Most, if not all NFL officials have a bachelor’s degree. Those with a sports-specific background (e.g. sports management) are more likely to be chosen for the position compared to those without one.

2. Attend a Training School

The NFL Football Officiating Academy is taught by current and former NFL officials and players, as well as NFL scouts

Many colleges offer special programs for aspiring referees. There are also third-party training schools that offer lessons on good sportsmanship, practices and expectations of referees, ethics, and how to interact with coaches on the field.

For example, the NFL has a Football Officiating Academy that offers football training, as well as lessons on character and life skills that are required of every official. They also provide on-field exercises and drills that cover four main areas of officiating: health and fitness, mechanics, character development, and rules. The best part is that all participants are trained by the best, including former and current NFL players and officials, and NFL scouts.

3. Register With Your State

Aspiring referees will have to register within the state that they’re practicing; that’ll allow them to officiate high school-level games. Depending on the state, there may be a written exam, in addition to training.

4. Accumulate Experience

The next step, which is perhaps the most important, is to gain experience. Generally speaking, referees will begin at the high school level, where they’ll remain for three to five years to gain connections and credibility. From there, they may move on to various football leagues.

5. Get Special Certification

Many aspiring NFL referees will attend various training sessions for special certification. while it’s not a big requirement for the league, those with special certification do have a higher chance of landing a position.

6. Get Noticed by Scouts

The NFL regularly sends scouts to college games to seek out new talent. That’s why it’s so important for referees to give their best at the games; it helps increase their chances of being noticed. Aside from their performance on the field, the league will also check the frequency of their work. For example, it’s not uncommon for them to check a candidate’s officiating schedule for the past seasons.

How Much Do NFL Officials Make During the Super Bowl Season?

The Super Bowl is the annual championship game that determines the league winner. If anything, it’s one of the most-watched sporting events in the world. In the United States alone, the Super Bowl LVII attracted more than 115 million viewers. Not only that but it also has a substantial audience base overseas.

The Super Bowl, which takes place in early February, is one of the most-watched sporting events worldwide

Seeing as how the Super Bowl is the biggest and most important game for a team, it’s not surprising to know that NFL referees earn much more during the Super Bowl, which is understandable, given the higher stakes and responsibility.

According to one source, NFL officials earn between $30,000 to $50,000 (the exact amount will depend on their seniority and experience) for officiating a final play-off game, and that’s on top of their base salary.

Is Being an NFL Referee a Full-Time Job?

Despite the high pay, being an NFL referee is not a full-time job. Rather, all officials and referees are part-time employees. This has to do with the fact that there’s an off-season, which begins in February and lasts until August. During this period, the number of practice sessions is strictly limited by the league, which means that referees aren’t needed.

During the football season, however, they’re essentially full-time workers given the number of hours they put into the games.

Given that, it’s not surprising to know that many NFL referees have “day jobs” in addition to working for the league. Take Ed Hochuli, which has been with the NFL since 1990, for instance, he works as a civil litigator at a law firm when he isn’t on the field. Gene Sterastore is another example; he’s the co-owner of a Washington-based janitor supply company.

The post Average NFL Referee Salary in 2026 – How Much NFL Ref’s Make appeared first on Gazette Review.

The Canadian Football League (CFL) is the biggest professional football league in Canada. In total, there are nine teams, each of which is based in a Canadian city.

The teams are further divided into two separate divisions: the West Division (BC Lions, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Calgary Stampeders, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Edmonton Elks) and the East Division (Ottawa Redblacks, Hamilton Tiger Cats, Toronto Argonauts, and Montreal Alouettes).

The Canadian Football League is divided into the West Division and the East Division

Currently, the league has a 21-week regular season, which runs from June to early November. During this period, each team plays 18 games; six teams then advance to the playoffs, aka the Grey Cup, which happens in late November.

While the CFL isn’t as well-known as the NFL, it still has a considerable following, especially in Canada.

What is the average salary for a CFL player? How does it compare to the NFL? Let’s find out.

Average Salary for Canadian Football League Players in 2026 – $60,000 to $100,000 Per Season

The official salaries for CFL players are not disclosed to the public. Having said that, the salary cap for each team is available. For instance, the league had a $5.3 million salary cap for each of the teams in 2021. If you do the math, this means each player’s salary ranges from $60,000 to $100,000 per season.

If any of the individual teams surpass the cap, they will be penalized after the individual team audits during the off-season.

As of 2026, some of the highest-paid CFL players include Kienan Lafrance ($80,000), William Powell ($82,000), Brendan Gillanders ($83,000), Ka’Deem Carey ($82,000), and James Wilder Jr ($85,000).

The Grey Cup (the championship game of the CFL) is the biggest annual sports event on television in Canada with approximately 4 million viewers

Many CFL players also receive signing bonuses for joining a team. For example, Eugene Lewis of the Edmonton Elks, received a $120,000 signing bonus for joining the team earlier this year, after winning the Most Outstanding Player award in the East Division.

Not only that but most, if not all players will also receive workout bonuses, housing money, off-season roster bonuses, as well as travel allowances.

Most players who are just starting out, however, will earn the league’s minimum salary of $41,000 a year, unless they are a high draft pick.

Taking On Off-Season Jobs

Being a CFL player is not a full-time job; the salaries aren’t nearly as high as the NFL either. Given that, it’s not surprising to know that many athletes take on part-time jobs during the off-season months.

For example, Ian Smart, who played for the BC Lions during the early 2000s, worked as a sprint coach in a Florida High School.

After playing for the CFL, many athletes go on to become coaches for high school or college football teams. Many also work as sports broadcasters or turn into scouting to seek out new talent for their former team.

How Do You Become a CFL Player?

The CFL doesn’t hold tryout camps. However, the teams do travel across North America occasionally on scouting trips. If someone is interested in trying out, they may be able to set up a meeting during this period.

The Canadian Football League does not hold tryouts; most players are scouted by the teams instead

It’s also not necessary to play at a Canadian college to get noticed by scouts (the CFL recruits from both American and Canadian colleges). Not only that but candidates don’t have to play at a BCS-eligible school either as many of the teams recruit from the lower tier schools.

You don’t necessarily need a bachelor’s degree either. In fact, many of the current players have joined the teams with only a diploma. If anything, experience on the field is much more important.

The post Average CFL Player Salary 2026 – How Much Do CFL Players Make? appeared first on Gazette Review.

How much money makes for a good raise? Most people commit to long-term careers under the assumption receive raises for their consistent hard work. For some people, even a small raise makes a big difference. Yet there are still many other people who find the average raise unsatisfactory.

The feeling one’s work is worth more than their current rate is a common feeling among the working class in the United States. In fact, only 55% of workers in the USA believe they are paid enough. Some may be right – factors such as inflation and the increasing cost of living sometimes make a raise almost necessary.

How Much is the Average Yearly Pay Increase?

Most companies give their employees a three to five percent wage increase every year. This might not seem like much but it can quickly add up over time, giving you a much higher income than when you first started.

Keep in mind, however, that that’s just an average. Some employers may offer an even greater increase if you’re valuable to the company and they’re able to compensate you more.

Depending on where you work, you might even get non-cash benefits or perks. For example, some companies offer transportation reimbursement and travel benefits for their employees. There may also be career development programs available, which can help increase your earning potential in the future.

What do employers look at when deciding whether or not to give someone a raise? A lot of things. For starters, they’ll look at your job performance. If you perform your job well or exceed expectations, they may decide to increase your wage. The industry that you’re working in matters as well. For instance, companies in fast-growing industries are more likely to offer salary increases.

When to Ask For a Raise

Timing is super important when it comes to asking for a raise. If anything, it can significantly impact the results. For example, if you recently started working at a company, t’s best to wait at least six months before asking for a raise.

It’s also a good idea to ask when your company experiences success (e.g. the signing of a major deal or project). You can also ask after completing an important project- one that shows your contributions to the company.

How to Increase your Salary

Getting a raise is not always straightforward. Although some people may simply approach their boss, every company may have different guidelines or suggested etiquette.

Raises may be sensitive matters within a company. Be sure to consider what situation your company is in. If your company is facing hard times, wait until it fares better before requesting a raise. Conversely, don’t act entitled to a raise if your company suddenly starts doing well.

Here are some tips on getting a raise:

Improve your performance
Is your performance lackluster, or do you simply think it can be better? Employers typically monitor the productive output of their employees, and award raises to the most productive. Being a standout worker in your organization can easily pay off.If you want to be sure you’re worth a raise, ask your boss or another higher-up what qualities they want in an ideal employee. Pay attention to the hardest workers in your company and emulate them.

Become even more qualified
Every career in the world usually advances or changes in some way with every passing year. It always pays off to gain new knowledge and insight into how to work better. Although many companies do give employees access to regular training programs, taking the initiative to learn more yourself can win you big points.

Get another job
Not all companies pay employees equally. You may be unfortunate enough to have landed at a workplace that pinches pennies everywhere, including with employee’s salaries. In this, you can only do so much before you simply turn in your resignation. If your employer refuses to budge on the subject, it may be a good idea to start looking for a more considerate company. In previous years, one could expect 10 to 20 percent more annually after switching jobs. Things are different now. However, if you are confident enough in your ability, making the switch should be easy. In fact, there are some companies who seek out their competitor’s highest performers, luring them in with more lucrative gigs.

Your perception of a car salesperson may not be the best. When a lot of people think of people who sell cars, they immediately think of the stereotypical used car salesman. The stereotypical used car salesman is greasy and immoral, and he is willing to lie to get you to buy one of his cars.

However, car sales in real life aren’t quite so dramatic. The majority of car salesmen are people who are just trying to make an honest living by selling cars. It’s a common career choice among people who hold an interest in both cars and in sales. It’s not always fun work, but it is deeply rewarding work. There’s something particularly satisfying about knowing that you’re helping people make such a large purchasing decision.

Just like with any other kind of salesman, your own performance is usually able to affect your own salary. Most car salespeople work on commission, which means that their salary is directly affected by how many cars they sell. This may seem stressful for a lot of people, but some are capable of truly thriving under this sort of pressure. How much does your average car salesman actually make? How could that figure be affected by outside factors like experience or location? How does someone actually become a car salesman? In this article, I plan on answering all of those questions. Without further delay, let’s see if we can’t learn a little bit more about this often misunderstood profession.

The Average Car Salesman Salary As of 2026 – $44,296

In the United States, the average annual salary for a car salesman 2026 is $44,296. However, that’s only an average. For most consultants, the pay scale ranges from $23,000 to $95,000. At the end of the day, it depends on a number of factors such as your location, the types of cars you’re selling, customer demographics, as well as the reputation of the dealership.

It’s also important to note that their base salary isn’t very high. As it is, the majority of their earnings come from their commission, where they earn a certain percentage of what they sell (usually between the 20 to 25 percent range). In other words, the more cars they sell for the dealership, the more money they’ll take home, especially if the cars are of high value.

For example, if they sell a car for $25,000, and the dealership makes $5,000 in profit, they’d earn $1,250 on a 25 percent commission rate.

As of 2026 the top highest-paying cities for car salesman jobs include San Jose, CA; Atkinson, NE; Seattle, WA; Santa Barbara, CA; Inverness, CA; and Concord, CA. For example, the average salary in Atkinson is 27% higher than the national average. If you do the math, that’s a difference of over $12,000!

How to Become a Car Salesman – Do You Have to Go to School?

With that in mind, what does someone actually have to do in order to become a car salesman? Unlike working in some kind of trade, it’s not like you can go to a technical college and take classes on selling cars. This is a unique line of work, and so the path there is obviously unique. The first thing that you need, though, is a high school education. Just about every job out there likes to see applicants who graduated from high school, so it’s very important that you have this. Work in car sales doesn’t involve many educational requirements, but this is one that most employers won’t bend on. If you have already dropped out of high school, I seriously suggest that you look into taking some kind of exam so that you can obtain a GED or something similar. Once you’re done with high school, you can begin to think about going to college.

Like I said before, a college education is by no means required to find a successful career in sales. You should not put yourself in debt just to obtain a degree. However, if you have a scholarship or if you can afford it, then you may want to consider it. Even if your education doesn’t get you a greater commission rate, it may still make you a more competitive applicant to jobs at different dealerships. Not only that, but you may even learn a thing or two about how to be a great salesperson. Regardless as to whether or not you decide to go to college, you should still make sure that you get some kind of sales experience before you head into work as a car salesman. The sky is really the limit here, but you should see if you can’t get a part-time job at some kind of high-end retailer or department store. Not only will you acquire valuable on the job experience and learn a lot, but you’ll also be able to say that you’re not just a newbie to sales.

Once all of your “pre-career” stuff is out of the way, you can begin to look for work. If you were lucky enough to work in something related to automotives during your earlier jobs, you may want to contact some of the people that you met and see if they can’t elp you get a job. Otherwise, it’s up to you to search for opening and see where you can end up. You can either choose to apply to a franchise dealer or a used car lot, and depending on where you apply, you may be expected to meet certain requirements in terms of past experience or knowledge of cars. When you’re first hired, you may struggle as you try to get your bearings, especially if this is one of your first jobs in sales. However, you shouldn’t be deterred. As long as you have the people skills and the passion for your work, you’ll be selling cars and making money in no time.

The post Average Car Salesman Salary In 2026 – How Much Do Car Salesmen Make? appeared first on Gazette Review.

Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world, and certainly the most popular worldwide of North America’s big four sports. From high school basketball to March Madness to the NBA, America loves its hoops, and so does the rest of the world. Leagues and teams across Europe and Asia are growing, and some of the NBA’s biggest stars have come from overseas.

The NBA’s surging popularity and star power have done wonders for the popularity of the game, and the league has big earnings to show for it. The average NBA franchise is now worth $1.3 billion, with the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Golden State Warriors all topping $2.5 billion in value. The value is also reflected in its players’ salaries, as NBA players outearn their counterparts from other sports.

Average Salary for NBA Players In 2026 – $9.6 Million

The NBA has a cap-based system that they use for the players’ salaries. Each season, the league sets a minimum and maximum spending cap, which determines how much they’re allowed to play their athletes.

For the 2022-23 season, the salary cap is set at $123.66 million, which is a 10% increase from last year’s $112.4 million salary cap. However, this is only a “soft cap”; there are certain exceptions written into the CBA, which allow teams to spend above this amount, one example being the mid-level exception (MLE)

With the MLE, NBA teams can go beyond the salary cap to sign free agents. Currently, there are three types of mid-level exceptions: the non-taxpayer mid-level exception for teams under the $10.49 million luxury tax limit, the room exception for teams under the soft cap ($5.4 million), and the taxpayer mid-level exception for teams above the $6.48 million tax limit.

There’s also a “salary floor”, which determines the minimum amount that must be spent on the team payroll. As of 2026, it’s set at $111.30 million—approximately 90 percent of the cap.

For the 2022-23 season, the average salary for an NBA player is $9.6 million. This figure is based on 453 signings and excludes 10-day and two-way contracts.

For the 2023-24 season, the NBA’s salary cap is projected to be $134 million, which is $10.4 higher than the current season.

The Highest Paid NBA Players In 2026

Currently, 32.5 percent of players make above the league average while 14.1 percent earn more than $20 million. At the end of the day, it not only depends on the annual cap limits but on each player’s service and experience in the league as well.

For those who are wondering, here are some of the top earners in the NBA.

1. Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors) – $48 Million

Stephen Curry is often regarded as one of the best basketball players of all time. A nine-time All-NBA selection and nine-time NBA All-Star, he has won four NBA championships and has been named the Most Valuable Player by the league twice.

He currently plays as a point guard for the Golden State Warriors.

2. Russell Westbrook (Los Angeles Lakers) – $47 Million

Russell Westbrook is a nine-time NBA All-Star and is one of only two players to have averaged a triple-double in the history of the NBA. He currently plays as a point guard for the Los Angeles Clippers.

3. Lebron James (Los Angeles Lakes) – $44.5 Million

Lebron James is the all-time top scorer in NBA history and has been selected to the All-NBA Team 19 times. He currently players as a power forward for the Los Angeles Lakers.

4. Bradley Beal (Washington Wizards) – $43.3 Million

Bradley Beal is a three-time NBA All-Star who was picked by the Wizards during the 2012 draft. He currently plays as a shooting guard for the Washington Wizards.

5. Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns) – $42.9 Million

Kevin Durant is a 13-time NBA-All Star and has won two NBA Championships and four scoring titles. He currently plays as a power forward for the Phoenix Suns.

How to Become an NBA player

There are a few requirements to become an NBA player. First and foremost, you must be in great physical shape. You should also have strong playing skills, ones that’ll distinguish yourself from the rest of the pack. For example, you can bring speed to the field if you’re particularly fast.

You also want to play as many basketball tournaments as possible, both in high school and college as that’s where the league tends to scout new talent. For example, you can participate in AAU leagues. You also want to make the most of regional tournaments.

Each summer, the NBA also holds an annual draft during which the league’s franchises choose and select new players for their teams from hundreds of candidates. To be eligible, a player must be at least 19 years old and have been removed from their high school graduating class for at least one year.

Automatic eligibility may also apply if an individual meets the following criteria:

The individual has played college basketball for four years

Players who graduated from a U.S. high school but did not attend a U.S. college are eligible four years after their high school graduation

The individual has played for a professional basketball team outside of the NBA

International atheletes are automatically eligible if they are over the age of 22

Early entry aka “one and done” is another possibility; it refers to those who have obtained eligibility by playing college basketball for a year prior to leaving school. For this, the individual must be at least 19 years old and one year removed from high school.

If an individual has not attended college, they may still be eligible if they make an early entrant status request. They must also fill out the NBA draft application.

Height and weight matters as well. To give you an idea, the average NBA player is 6’7 and weighs 220 pounds. While it isn’t a requirement per se, being tall does offer a number of advantages in the sport such as the ability to reach higher into the air. Having said that, they’re also more susceptible to injury.

That’s not to say that you must be tall to succeed in the NBA. Take Isaiah Thomas, for example, despite being 5 foot 9, he is a two-time NBA All-Star and has been named to the All-NBA Second Team. Muggsy Bogues is another example. At 5 feet 3 inches, he is the shortest player to have ever played in the NBA.

How Many People Make It to the NBA?

According to a study conducted by the NCAA, 18,800 out of 540,700 high school basketball players go on to play at the collegiate level. If you do the math, that’s 3.5 percent. From there, only 1.2 percent of the collegiate players make the jump to professional basketball with the NBA.

The post Average NBA Salary In 2026 – How Much Do NBA Players Make? appeared first on Gazette Review.

For many, education is a big question in terms of finances. Can one afford it in the first place? What about loans and the return in investment in terms of career salaries? And what on earth should they go for? Maybe an Associates, Bachelors or even Graduate or Post-Grad degree? Here, we take a look at the salary earnings averages across the board for Masters and other Graduate school, well, graduates. If you’re interested in our article for new college grads (bachelors) feel free to take a look here.

Average Salary for a Graduate Degree – $70,000

The average salary for someone who has passed through a graduate program is around $70,000 but this comes with many, many caveats. First of all, we are casting an incredibly wide net from social worker master’s degrees (which typically go lower than most in salary) to MBA’s and Law degrees which make considerably more on average. For our calculations we left out Medical School graduates simply due to how skewed the numbers would become, and we already featured their salaries in our article here. Now, in terms of maximizing earnings, there are several factors one has to consider. The most obvious and the biggest influencer of salary is of course what you’d like an advanced degree in. Aside from the MBA and JD mentioned above, advanced degrees in engineering fields, chemistry, and intelligence or policy fields. The second factor is of course, where you go to school. It’s not surprising that the top 10 earners out the gate for Graduate salaries are big names like Harvard, Emory, UCLA and Columbia. That being said, just because you didn’t get into a big name school (or are not looking to apply to one) in most cases, the difference can easily be made up with some internship and work experience to round out your knowledge base. Lastly in terms of determining your pay would be where you work. Keep in mind that some lower paying jobs do have some great benefits, such as when working with governments and 503c organizations. Both of these jobs look good on a resume and can lead to fulfilling careers on their own, or if you’re pretty deep in loan debt, you can work for these organizations for a set amount of time to have loans forgiven (in many places, this is around 5-10 years). This value can’t quite be calculated into a salary determinant, but is handy, also keeping in mind that once you hit that 10 year mark, most individuals with advanced degrees are comfortably over $100,000 a year in salary. Now that we’ve covered earnings, let’s see how you can get into a program, graduate, and start making a decent salary.

How Do You Become a Graduate?

To graduate from a graduate program is a long and often winding road. However, it’s not impossible, and not for just the most elite of students (though being a good student can save you time and money). So before we go through some of the more advanced choices you’ll have to make, let’s rewind a bit and see some starting choices.
So, before you get into a Grad School in the first place, you have to attend University (and may apply to the same one later) and to do that, of course graduating high school is needed, or a GED. It is my personal opinion that, unless you are granted a scholarship for grades in high school, are accepted into an Ivy League school or are getting funding from the Military as a part of the GI bill, starting out at a community college is probably your best step after high school (with AP and Dual Enrollment being great choices while in high school).

Now, after enrolling in either community college or University, it’s time to find something that you can see yourself doing as a career. Some people say follow your dreams, some people say follow the money, but I take the middle path. Do something you don’t hate, but also something that pays decently enough that you can afford a life outside of work full of other things you also enjoy. Keep in mind that early major changes are not a sign of failure but just re-evaluations of what you want. That being said, you should try to keep to a major after your first or at most, second year. This will minimize the amount of loans tacked onto your tuition (or just the cost). During your time here, try to reach out for internships and jobs related to your field. An example of this was that at one point in time, I actively worked in a psychiatric clinic that catered to poorer, inner city patients and did research in Human Computer Interaction while studying for an Undergraduate degree. These would later come in handy when applying to a Master’s program in Public Health.
So you’ve made it mostly through University, maybe with some experience under your belt, and hopefully a decent GPA. Most schools have a 3.0 minimum for admission, though some schools do allow for 3.0 within the last 60 credit hours for those who had a rough first year or so. Now, time to start looking at related Master’s programs. Depending on what you want to do, there may be one or several exams you can take to qualify for the advanced degree. These include the MCAT, LSAT, and GRE in many cases. Each of these exams test what you should have in terms of knowledge before entering into a Health or Medicine program, Law, or tests several key components on a major-related basis. For prospective MBA applicants, you can expect to study for the General GRE which includes Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Analytical Writing portions, while say a Biology Grad prospective applicant would have to study Cellular and Molecular Biology, Organismal Biology, and Ecology/Evolution sections. Most schools have a minimum required score per test or section, but the higher the score, the better the application. After the results are in, all that’s left to do is apply.

We’ve finally made it to graduate school. Now, we have yet still a few options to choose from. We can essentially repeat the method we did at university (in fact, many graduate schools require the internship aspects), and if we’re ambitious, take on a Thesis track. This can be great for later advancement into academia or a Ph.D. program, but depending on your degree it can either be critical or a footnote. Also, many schools have the options of attending in person or online, so that those individuals who are already in a career field can keep working and get significant promotion, or those who need a bit more research experience can get it in person. Either way, just as in university it’s a good idea to keep your grades up so as to keep your options open. Lastly, keep in mind that some programs have certification or exit exams, so keeping notes and studying on topics that may be presented in the program exam may prove to be essential. After passing that, having your Thesis published (if you had one) and graduating, you’ve made it. Now to find a job, hopefully one that pays better than average.

The post Average Graduate Degree Salary 2018 – How much do Graduates Make appeared first on Gazette Review.
