Terrell Owens, also known as T.O., is an man with many talents. Some of his most well-known talents include being a professional wide receiver for the National Football League, motivational speaking, modeling, and so much more. Today we are going to take an in-depth look at how Terrell acquired his riches and fame.

Terrell Owens’ Net Worth 2018 – $3 Million

How did Terrell Owens’ make his money and build his wealth?

Early Life

An Alabama native, Terrell Eldorado Owens was born in Alexander City, Alabama. Terrell continued to live in Alexander City whilst being raised by his grandmother as his mother was a teenager. His mother, Marilyn Heard, was seventeen years old at the time of his birth. Terrell was not aware of his father until he was eleven years old, when he discovered that his neighbor was his father and not the man that he was told was his father for years prior.

As a child, Terrell, enjoyed football, both playing and watching the game, but never at a competitive level. While he was skilled as a child, Owens’ family prohibited him from competing in the sport until he was in high school. He first football team was at Benjamin Russell High School. In his junior year he became a starter as a result of a teammate not being able to fulfill their duties as a team member.

College Career

Terrell attended the University of Tennessee after high school. While enrolled, he participated in several sports including basketball and football. As a result of participating on the school’s basketball team, Owens’ played in the NCAA Basketball Tournament of 1995. During the tournament, his team played in the first round and was then kicked out of the competition after losing to Connecticut.

During his college career, Terrell played with jersey number 80 in a nod to his favorite football player, Jerry Rice. Terrell did not become a starter for the school’s football team until his sophomore year when he debuted as a wide receiver for the team. During his sophomore year, he caught 38 passes and racked up 724 yards. During this year, he also completed eight touchdowns. Due to his impressive stats, Terrell started to gain respect from the NCAA, which led to him receiving more coverage during his senior. During his senior year, Terrell completed 43 receptions, rushed for 657 yards, and completed a touchdown. Terrell then went on to participate in the Senior Bowl, as a college all-star, due to holding the single-season reception record.

Professional Career

After graduating college, Terrell was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1996 during the third round of the NFL Draft, and was the 89th overall selection. It was reported at the time that he was drafted due to his impressive size and speed while demonstrating his abilities. Terrell had an impressive first season with the 49ers. During his first season, Terrell competed against several teams including, but not limited to the New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, and The Cincinnati Bengals. Owens’ first professional game after being drafted was against the Saints. During the game, he had a noteworthy special teams play. The first catches that he made were against The Carolina Panthers. He caught two passes for a net gain of six yards. A week later, in his game against The Atlanta Falcons, he went on to complete a kick-return for 17-yards and also completed a single catch for 30 yards.

Terrell’s first professional touchdown was in October of 1996 against The Cincinnati Bengals during the fourth quarter. The touchdown was completed for a gain of 45-yards and lead to The San Francisco 49ers winning the game by 7 points. Terrell made a big name for himself during his second professional season in 1997. Terrell and fellow teammate, Steve Young, became very compatible with each other, and it showed on the field. This rapport lead to the 49ers winning 13 games for the 1997 season. Terrell finished the season with nine touchdowns and over 900 yards. In 1998, Owens created a household name for himself when he caught the game-winning touchdown against The Green Bay Packers. It was the first time that the 49ers had beaten the Packers and they did so with a three point lead with seconds left on the clock.

The next season was a bad season for Terrell’s whole team. The team lost their quarterback as he was not able to pass necessary medical tests. This was a big let-down for the team as it seemed as though they lost their compatibility and were no longer working together. This also lead to the team only being able to win 6 games for the entire season. Despite the team’s trouble, Terrell ended the season with thirteen touchdowns and over 1,400 completed rushing yards.

In 2002, the team had 6 losses, and as a direct result, the head coach of five years, Steve Mariucci, was released and quickly replaced by, Dennis Erickson, a former Seattle Seahawks coach. After the coaching change, the 2003 season was still very lacking in both terms of how the team performed and how the coaching staff handled the team. The team completed the 2002 season with a 7-9 record. After this particular season, Terrell decided to leave and was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. The trade was not smooth as Terrell ran into several problems along the way. The main being that The 49ers believed that they still had the right to Terrell and his contract. Terrell disputed this along with The NFLPA. The 49ers and Terrell soon came to a conclusion allowing Terrell to be Traded to the Philadelphia Eagles after a several month long battle. Terrell’s contract with the Eagles at the time was widely reported by several sources at a time to be over $ 40 million dollars, plus a signing bonus of about $10 million which was an unheard of the amount when it came to football players at the time. The news coverage opened up the opportunity for Terrell to get a book deal, and after signing with the Eagles, Terrell released his a book titled “ Catch This!” The book was over 288 pages in length and was ghost written.

Terrell’s first season with the Eagles in 2004 was great for both the team and Terrell, Due to his great performance with the team Terrell quickly gained popularity by both fans of the Eagle’s and throughout the league as a whole. Unfortunately, Terrell injured himself in December of 2004. Terrell suffered a severely fractured fibula and a sprained ankle after he was tackled using a maneuver that has now been banned. The maneuver was called The horse-collar tackle and could lead to serious injuries such as the one experienced by Terrell. The Eagles were on their way to the super bowl and Terrell vowed that he would play in the big game, no matter his condition, and he did just that. With the help of physical therapy and other useful tools, Terrell was back much sooner than the expected time frame. Terrell played in the game and played well, but the Eagles Ultimately lost despite their best efforts.

In 2006, Terrell was cut from the Eagles. He then went on to play for the Dallas Cowboys. He signed a three-year contract worth $25 million and had several bonuses promised to him. After his first game, Terrell severely injured his finger leading him to need surgery and forced him to miss four games. This was the beginning of the end of his football career. He left Dallas after his second season and continued to play for several other teams but continued to get cut after just one season with little to no success with each team.

Terrell Owens is best known for his time spent in the NFL, where he played as a wide receiver for more than 5 different teams in his 15 active seasons. Terrell Owens, also better known as T.O, is also a controversial figure, with some sort of interesting development following in his wake to every single professional NFL team that he went to. Read on more to find out about Terrell Owens, his time in the NFL, and his adventures beyond the gridiron.

Terrell Owens’s Upbringing and NFL Career Beginnings

Terrell Owens was born to his parents in Alexander City, Alabama. He was one of four children, and was frequently babysitted by his grandmother when his mother was not watching over the children. He would go on to enjoy viewing football in his youth, and his favorite player is said to have been Jerry Rice. Terrell Owens eventually began playing sports in high school, after his grandmother forbade him. He went on to participate in football, basketball, track and field, and baseball.

After high school, Terrell Owens went on to enroll at the University of Tennessee based out of Chattanooga. There, Terrell Owens again participated in many sports including track, football and basketball. He also made it a point to wear the #80 jersey, which his favorite player, Jerry Rice, also wore. While he started as a less-than-stellar athlete, Terrell Owens eventually shined during his sophomore year when he managed to catch 38 passes for a total of 724 yards and 8 touchdowns. In his junior year, he went on to catch 34 different passes for 357 yards and 3 total touchdowns. During his senior year, his prime year, Terrell Owens went on to face more rigorous man-to-man coverage, but managed to catch 43 passes for 667 yards and only 1 touchdown.

Terrell Owens also went on to perform exceedingly well in track and field, and managed to hold the school’s reception record until it was eventually shattered in 2007 by a wide receiver named Alonzo Nix. He would also go on to participate in the team’s 4 x 100 relay race, 4 different runners running for 100 yards, and participate as the anchor runner, the most important and critical position. He also has one Senior Bowl under his belt, where he played as a wide receiver.

Terrell Owens was eventually signed to the San Francisco 49ers in the third round during the 1996 NFL draft. He began his rookie career with his first game against the New Orleans Saints, and he played as a member of the special teams division, meaning he only managed to take the field a few times in each quarter. It is also worth noting that at the time, Jerry Rice was also playing for the San Francisco 49ers, which quickly led to Terrell Owens fulfilling his childhood dream of playing with his favorite player.

Terrell Owens in the NFL

Terrell Owens quickly became an impressive figure on the 49ers special teams squad; he managed to return a kick for 17 yards and intercepted a catch for 26 yards. In the 1997-1998 season, Jerry Rice tore his ACL and Terrell Owens stepped up to the position. He managed to finish the season with 936 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns, and was quickly brought up to play on the offensive team. In the 1998 season, Terrell Owens would excel by reaching his first 1,000-yard year, where he managed to catch 67 passes for 1,097 yards and 14 separate touchdowns; one of these was a rushing touchdown, even. The 49ers would then go up against the Green Bay Packers, who had beaten the 49ers in five straight appearances, which meant that the 49ers were definitely the underdogs. With the help of Terrell Owens, they managed to squeak out to a 30-27 victory.

Unfortunately, the following season saw Terrell Owens and the San Francisco 49ers not doing so well – they ended the season with a disappointing 4-12 record. In the 1999-2000 season, Terrell Owens only managed to catch 60 different passes for 754 yards and four separate touchdowns. Part of the reason why the 49ers had an awful 1999-2000 season include the injury, and eventual retirement, of Steve Young. In the 2000-2001 season, the 49ers still retained a bad record, although Terrell Owens managed his own record-breaking game when he caught 20 different passes for a total of 283 yards in a dominating display over the Chicago Bears. This was the first time in more than 50 years to mark a player receiving for more than 280 yards.

In the 2001-2002 seasons, the 49ers managed to do well, but did not make it to the playoffs due to a victory from the Green Bay Packers led by a new quarterback by the name of Brett Favre. However, the 49ers remained a consistent force to be reckoned with, and
managed a 10-6 record. In this season, Terrell Owens received 100 catches for an even 1,300 yards with 13 touchdowns. The 49ers did not make it to the playoffs this year, either, but Terrell Owens continued his impressive displays as a wide receiver.

In the 2002-2003 season, the coaching staff completely changed for the 49ers, and Terrell Owens eventually made his decision to look for other opportunities. At this same time, Terrell Owens appeared in a Playboy magazine interview, where he hinted that the rumors behind a fellow wide receiver might be true in that he was a homosexual. This led to the NFLPA, the NFL Player’s Association, filing a grievance against Terrell Owens.

After some contract disputes, Terrell Owens finally made it out of San Francisco and found a home with the Baltimore Ravens. However, due to a clerical error with Terrell Owens’s previous agent missing a void-contract deadline, Terrell Owens was immediately traded from the Baltimore Ravens to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for some NFL Draft Picks in the preceding years. Allegedly, Terrell Owens’s contract had a value of more than $49 million over 7 years, which also included a signing bonus of $10 million.

In his first year with the Philadelphia Eagles, Terrell Owens and the team managed to make it to Super bowl 39. However, Terrell Owens had received a big leg injury that would eventually sideline him for the rest of the season; despite the injury, Terrell Owens vowed to make it back into the Super Bowl. He managed to make it back to catch 9 receptions for 122 yards, although the Philadelphia Eagles still lost to the New England Patriots.

Terrell Owens only remained with the Philadelphia Eagles for one more season, playing only seven games in the 2005-2006 season. Still, he showed off an impressive display of 763 yards received across 47 different receptions, with an average of 16.2 yards every time he received the ball. He scored 6 touchdowns in his 7 appearances this season. Terrell Owens hired on a new agent with the intention of working out a contract extension under the Eagles, but after a contract dispute, Terrell Owens was suspended without pay, deactivated, and then released.

Terrell Owens would then go on to sign with the Dallas Cowboys, where he played for three seasons. His first season with the Cowboys, Terrell Owens managed to catch 85 receptions for 1,180 yards, with 13 touchdowns and an average of 13.9 yards when he received the balls. His 2007-2008 season was one of his better seasons, where he managed to catch 81 different passes for a total of 1,355 yards, with an average of 16.7 yards each reception. He also scored 15 touchdowns, his second-highest ever in his NFL career. Terrell Owens would then go on to play one last season with the Dallas Cowboys in 2008-2009, where he managed to catch 69 receptions for 1,052 yards with an average of 15.2 every time he received the ball. He also scored 10 touchdowns.

After his time with the Dallas Cowboys, he was released due to inner politicking of the Cowboys’ coaching staff. He would then find a place with the Buffalo Bills, where he signed a 1-year contract for $6.5 million. During his one season with the Buffalo Bills, Terrell Owens managed to catch 55 different passes for 829 total yards with an average of 15.1 yards every time he managed to get his hands on the ball. He also only scored 5 touchdowns, which was a career low for him.

Terrell Owens would eventually sign one last contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, which was a 1-year contract for $2 million, and another $2 million possible from any bonuses. This team was quintessentially a dream team, as Terrell Owens played with both Chad Ochocinco and Carson Palmer. Terrell Owens went on to catch 72 receptions for 983 yards with an average of 13.7 yards each time he received the ball, and 9 separate touchdowns. Despite a stellar first season, the Cincinatti Bengals decided not to re-sign Terrell Owens, and Terrell Owens would eventually begin his retirement from the NFL. However, he managed to sign on a one-season deal with the Allen Wrangles, an indoor football league, although was released at the end of the season for not showing enough effort.

Terrell Owens also signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks, but was released only 20 days later. In his career with the NFL, Terrell Owens managed to catch 1,078 receptions for 15,934 total yards, and more than 150 receiving touchdowns. This places him in the top 5% of wide receivers in the history of the game. He also holds numerous franchise records for the Eagles, 49ers, Cowboys and Bills.

What’s Terrell Owens Doing Now in 2018- Recent Updates

Terrell Owens had previously said that he has strong interest in reappearing for the 2014 season, but never made good on this promise. Since then, Terrell Owens launched his own podcast, called Time Out with T.O., where they regularly discuss the past week’s NFL games, upcoming NFL games, and even bring on guest hosts to discuss things outside of football. The podcast has been running since September of 2013 and is co-hosted by Alonzo Bodden, a comedian, and Rob Cesternino, a reality TV star. The podcast is syndicated to be released every Wednesday.

In 2014, Terrell Owens married Rachel Snider, but the marriage quickly soured and the two divorced in less than a week. Terrell Owens has three children, only one of which is under his care and custody; he pays out child support to three mothers of his children.
