What does RV tank treatment do?

RV tank treatments are designed to reduce and eliminate odors by dissolving waste and toilet paper in the holding tanks. For example, some contain enzymes that are capable of liquefying solid wastes. Others contain chemicals that kill the odor-causing bacteria. On top of that, many products come with a clean fragrance that helps mask the odor.

How do I stop my RV toilet from smelling?

RV toilets should not emit any odors when working correctly. If there's a noticeable odor, chances are, there's buildup inside the tank. The easiest way to fix that is by using an RV tank treatment - they will dissolve the waste and get rid of any smell.

When should I treat my RV tank?

Ideally, you want to empty your holding tank every three to five days, or when the sensor indicates its two-thirds full. To keep smells at a minimum, it's recommended that you use one tank treatment every time you dump the tank.

Is RV toilet treatment necessary?

RV toilet treatments should be used regularly to prevent black tank problems. For example, build-up can accumulate on the walls of the tank, even if you flush and empty it out regularly. Over time, this can damage your sensors. Not to mention it can also cause terrible odors as well as clogs.

Is RV tank treatment safe for septic systems?

Many RV tank treatments are safe for septic systems. When in doubt, check the packaging- it should say whether or not the product is septic safe. Avoid those that contain harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde and bronopol, which may pollute the waterways.

Can I put vinegar down my RV toilet?

Yes, white vinegar can be used to clean the RV toilet. Keep in mind, however, that it may kill off some of the good bacteria and microbes that are keeping odors at a minimum. For that reason, it's highly recommended that you rinse the bowl with water after using vinegar.

Should you leave water in your RV tank?

Yes, the RV tank should have water in it at all times. That will help with waste breakdown, prevent odors, and keep the sensors clean.

Can you put wet wipes in an RV toilet?

Wet wipes, including 'flushable wipes' should not be used in RV toilets as they can cause clogs. The only thing that you should be using is RV-safe toilet paper; there's no suitable alternative.
