Fans of SpikeTV are sure to remember the first season of The Joe Schmo Show. Viewers fell in love with the kind, generous Matt Kennedy Gould after he was scouted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was cast to be the unwitting star of the show, and left a big impression on many fans. However, after the show was over, he chose to leave show business and pursue a different life. What has Matt Kennedy Gould been up to since the Joe Schmo Show, and where is he now?

Early Life

Matt Kennedy Gould was born in the town of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania in 1975. After high school, Gould attended Pennsylvania State University. He graduated from Penn State with a degree in speech communications in 1999.

Once he graduated, Gould had big plans to become a lawyer. He attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Law for a few years, but never finished. Prior to graduation, he dropped out because he didn’t feel that law was the right path for him.

At 28, Gould had dropped out of law school and was living at home, making his money delivering pizzas. He knew there had to be more to his life, but he wasn’t sure what it was yet. However, he was in for a few big surprises later that year.

The Joe Schmo Show

One day, Matt Kennedy Gould was playing basketball with some friends when a SpikeTV casting director spotted him and asked him to be on a new reality TV show. Gould decided to audition for the show – “why not?” he thought. Having watched reality TV in the past, he thought it would be good for him. “[Reality TV is] the best, all the drama and good-looking girls,” Gould told People Magazine. “I always thought I’d be great on a reality TV show.”

However, what Gould didn’t know was that this was not just any TV show. The Joe Schmo Show’s premise was that only one of the people on the show was a “real” person. The rest were actors. This “regular Joe” was the star of the show, but had no idea that it was really a setup.

Contestants on “The Joe Schmo Show” take part in a competition

When Matt Kennedy Gould started on the first season of The Joe Schmo Show, he thought he was on a show called Lap of Luxury. On this fake show, contestants competed for a $100,00 prize. At the end of every episode, a contestant was “evicted,” or voted off.

Matt Kennedy Gould made friends quickly, and soon became close with one of the people pretending to be his costar. At the end of an early episode, his friend, Earl, was voted off the show. Gould became emotional and upset at this decision. He started to question whether the money at the end of the show was worth betraying his friends.

After this incident, the premise of the show shifted. Where directors had once aimed to poke fun at Gould, they now tried to highlight his kind spirit. Instead of rigging contests to make Gould look ridiculous, they now rigged them so that he would win. By the end of the series, Gould had proven his good character and gained many fans.

In the final episode, when the true premise of The Joe Schmo Show was revealed to Gould, he was overcome by emotion. He had just won $100,00, a trip to Tahiti, and a flatscreen TV – but he had also been the butt of a joke. Initially, Gould responded positively. “I love the show…I’ve gotten nothing but positive feedback,” he told the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.

However, Matt Kennedy Gould had his regrets down the line. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said the The Joe Schmo Show had made him feel dumb. “If I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t do the show at all,” he said. According to Gould, the reality show had come about at a difficult time in his life, and being the butt of a joke had a negative impact on him.

After a few failed attempts to get into the entertainment industry, Gould quit working entirely. He hid away in his apartment in Santa Monica, and spent his winnings from the show on marijuana and alcohol.

What’s Matt Kennedy Gould Doing Now in 2026 – Recent Updates

After The Joe Schmo Show, Matt Kennedy Gould needed to do a bit of soul-searching. After his live-in girlfriend broke up with him, Gould decided to reassess his life. He got rid of his drugs, moved back to Pittsburgh, and has been sober ever since.

After moving back to the East Coast, Gould sought help with his internal struggles and eventually found peace. He got married, and now has a two children and a stepson. He started working at a logistics company, where the most recent news confirms he still works.

Though The Joe Schmo show took a toll on Gould, it shaped his life experience. In a 2013 interview with the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, he said that the show had made him feel insecure. For years, he thought that people looked at him as the but of a joke. However, he also said that “no one has ever once in nine-plus years said something negative to [him] about it.”

Once he realized that viewers had truly liked him, he came to terms with his time on the show. When he re-watched his season, he said he was proud of how the show portrayed him. His kindness and generosity paid off in the long run. He advises future “Joe Schmos” to take the show in stride and laugh about it if they can.

As per the latest updates in 2026, Matt Kennedy Gould has chosen to keep a low profile and lead a private life away from the public eye. Despite the interest in his life post-Joe Schmo Show, Gould has consistently maintained his decision to stay out of the spotlight. This decision stems from his desire to lead a more normal and peaceful life, away from the chaos that often accompanies fame and public attention.

Gould’s experience on the “Joe Schmo Show” had a profound impact on him. While it brought him momentary fame and recognition, it also exposed him to the manipulative and often superficial world of reality television. After the show ended, he struggled with feelings of betrayal and embarrassment as he came to terms with being duped on national television. These experiences significantly influenced his decision to withdraw from public life.

Despite stepping away from the limelight, Matt Kennedy Gould has not completely severed ties with his past. He occasionally makes appearances at reality TV conventions and fan events, much to the delight of his ardent fans. In these rare public appearances, he shares anecdotes from his time on the Joe Schmo Show and reflects on his unique journey.

While there have been rumors circulating about a potential comeback or a new TV project involving Gould in 2026, these remain unconfirmed. He has expressed no explicit interest in returning to television or participating in another reality show. Instead, he seems content with his current life away from the spotlight.

In conclusion, while Matt Kennedy Gould may have retreated from public life after his stint on the Joe Schmo Show, his legacy continues to captivate audiences. His unique journey from an unsuspecting reality TV participant to a household name is a poignant reminder of the unpredictable nature of fame and the toll it can take on individuals. As of 2026, Gould remains a beloved figure in reality television history, even as he chooses to lead a private life away from the prying eyes of the public.

The post What Happened to Matt Kennedy Gould – 2026 Update appeared first on Gazette Review.

Over the last several years, YouTube has become an extremely popular method for people to express themselves. Users with niche interests often create content for a community of fans that is sometimes millions strong. For viewers who are interested in Japan or Japanese culture, Miss Hannah Minx was one of the most popular YouTube stars. Her Japanese language videos garnered millions of views, but she disappeared suddenly several years ago. So what happened to Hannah Minx, and where is she now?

Hannah Minx’s Rise to YouTube Stardom

Hannah Wagner, AKA Hannah Minx, was born in Lexington Kentucky on October 31,1988. While she didn’t spend her childhood in the entertainment business, she eventually realized that she wanted to bring a smile to people’s faces. When she was studying abroad at Sophia University in Japan, she had the idea to make educational Japanese language videos, which she calls JWOWs (Japanese Word of the Week).

Photo: Facebook

Hannah joined YouTube in 2008 and uploaded her first video in March, 2009. She became an overnight success. Her MissHannahMinx YouTube channel’s popularity skyrocketed; her most watched video has over 10 million views. Her subscribers were entertained by weekly JWOWs, as well as other content featuring Hannah’s signature cute, Japanese style.

What’s Hannah Minx Doing Now In 2026 – Recent Updates

According to one Reddit user, who allegedly had her as a friend on Facebook (she added fans on her personal Facebook page early in her career), she is currently married with children. While it hasn’t been confirmed, they say that her husband is a man named Steve Fox Osterhagen.

Hannah Minx with her alleged husband Steve Fox Osterhagen

They also had an answer as to why she quit YouTube. Apparently, her manager owned the rights to the “Hannah Minx” trademark, which meant that she no longer owned her own content. While she could have fought to get her channel back, she chose another route—to embrace her new life as a wife and mother.

Not only did she leave YouTube, but she also abandoned her Instagram account. Her Twitter also went private.

So for those who are wondering, we probably won’t be getting any content from her any time soon. If anything, she’s probably busy with her family—that and she may very well be working a full-time job that doesn’t leave her any time for videos.

Tina Sugandh is a reality TV star best known for her role on the show Newlyweds: The First Year. On the show, fans knew Sugandh as prissy and hard to please, though talented and fun-loving. She appeared in the first season of Newlyweds, and many viewers enjoyed following her and her husband Tarz Ludwigsen’s first year of marriage. However, after her time on Newlyweds, Tina Sugandh didn’t remain active in the reality TV world for very long. Nonetheless, fans expect to see more of her in the future. What has Sugandh been up to since Newlyweds: The First Year, and what is she doing now in 2018?

Tina Sugandh’s Early Life

Tina Sugandh was born in Mumbai, India. Though her family immigrated to the United States when she was just 5 months old, Tina never lost her Indian heritage.

Both of Tina’s parents were performers. Her mother, Geeta Sugandh, was a well-known singer in India, while her father, Kanaiya Sugandh, is a performer, singer, comedian, and professor. Tina’s parents encouraged her and her sister Seema to hone their talents as performers. When the two sisters were growing up, the family performed at events around the country, and eventually gained a small following.

Tina and Seema were both talented, versatile singers. The family performed in English, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujrati, and Sindhi, and they were well-loved for their beautiful sound.

When Tina was 15 years old, she was discovered by Sean Harris. Harris was a screenwriter and creative mentor who recognized Tina’s talent immediately. He eventually convinced her to pursue music professionally, and she began working on a demo CD.

As she was furthering her music career, Tina was also pursuing an education. While doing photoshoots with Harris and weekend performances with her family, Sugandh studied Biology at Rutgers University. All of Tina’s hard work paid off. Besides graduating from Rutgers on the Dean’s List, she was also signed by Rebellion Entertainment Company, where she spent time creating and performing her own music.

Newlyweds: The First Year

Tina Sugandh’s background as a performer made her a great candidate to perform on reality TV. Her talent and lively personality kept viewers interested as the show followed her first year of marriage to her husband, Tarz.

Newlyweds is a show that takes the success of bridal shows one step further. The reality show documents new couples’ first years of marriage, highlighting their challenges and the struggles they overcome together.

On the show, Tina and Tarz’s biggest problem was that they struggled with intimacy. Both of them had very busy schedules. Tina was working on her music and Tarz was working on his startup internet business, Pandoodle. Because both of them were so busy, they struggled to find time alone together, and their sex life suffered as a result.

What is Tina Sugandh Doing Now in 2018- Recent News and Updates

Tina Sugandh and her children, Tarz and Song.

Since Newlyweds, it seems as though Tina and Tarz have been able to make a little more time for each other – because they now have two children! Their son, Tarz David, was born in 2013. He has even gotten a little bit of fame himself; the toddler had a modeling gig with H&M when he was just one year old!

The couple welcomed their daughter, Song, in 2015. Song was named in honor of Tina’s mother, Geeta, who passed away in 2008 from breast cancer. Tina’s mother was a singer, and she says that “Geeta” translates to “song,” so she thought it would be a good way to honor her mother.

The post What Happened to Tina Sugandh- News & Updates appeared first on Gazette Review.

Angela Raiola, better known as “Big Ang,” was famous for her roles on several reality TV shows. Raiola got her big break on the show Mob Wives, but went on to star in other shows as well. Big Ang always lived a life of luxury as a real-life mob wife. Fans and friends knew that she had a sharp sense of humor and a cunning business savvy. However, many people have wondered where she’s been since the end of her reality shows. What has Big Ang been up to, and what has happened to her in 2016?

Big Ang’s Early Life

Big Ang (right) in her younger years

Big Ang was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1960. She was the niece of Salvatore Lombardi, a drug dealer and member of the Genovese crime family. Because of her family’s connection, Big Ang became involved with the mob, and dated many gangsters. Raiola’s access to the mob also meant that she had a good deal of money, so

she lived a very luxuriant lifestyle.

However, her connection eventually ended up doing more harm than good. In 2001, Big Ang was indicted for being involved with a drug ring. She and 15 others were arrested for dealing cocaine and other controlled substances. She was freed on a $100,000 bond, but 2 years later, in 2003, she was convicted and sentenced to 3 years probation.

It appears Raiola cleaned up her act, though. She wasn’t ever arrested for any other criminal activity. She got married in 2009 to Neil Murphy. She also had 2 kids and 6 grandchildren.

Big Ang’s Reality TV Career

Big Ang is best known for her work on reality TV. Her first role was on the show Mob Wives. The show followed the lives of women from Staten Island whose husbands were arrested for alleged mob activity. The series was extremely well received – for a reality TV show. Critics said Mob Wives was viciously funny, clever, and thought provoking.

Big Ang joined the show in its second season, and she was an immediate fan favorite. She remained a regular cast member on the show from the time she joined to the time it was canceled.

Her success on Mob Wives inspired Big Ang to create her own spinoff show. In August, 2012, the show Big Ang was released; it focused on Raiola’s personal life and activities. Her bar, the Drunken Monkey, is featured heavily in the show.

Big Ang announced that there would be a second season of Big Ang, but there wasn’t. Instead, the show evolved into another one: Miami Monkey. This spinoff series focused on how Raiola opened up a second location of her bar in Miami. The show ran its first season in 2013, but was canceled after that.

What’s Big Ang Doing Now in 2018- Recent Updates

Big Ang continued to work on Mob Wives until the show was finished in January, 2016. Last year, VH1 announced that the show would be canceled after its sixth season.

There was also more bad news for Raiola. In March, 2015, she began experiencing pain in her throat. The initial diagnosis was strep throat, but when she went to a specialist, they discovered a tumor. She was scheduled for immediate surgery. Her lymph nodes were removed and she was thought to be cancer free. However, the cancer returned in December of that year, and had spread to her lungs and brain.

After months of struggle with stage IV lung and brain cancer, Big Ang passed away. She died on February 18th, surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren.

The post What Happened to Big Ang- News & Updates appeared first on Gazette Review.

If you’re the sort of person who likes your reality TV shows to be down to earth, then Swamp People might be just your cup of tea. This History Channel Show features alligator wrestling, death-defying adventures, accents that are occasionally indistinguishable, and the life of a rural community steeped in history. After 7 seasons, the show has gathered a huge fan base, but recent controversy made viewers wonder whether the program would continue. Find out what the Swamp People have been getting up to, and see where they are now in 2018!

What is Swamp People About?

Swamp People was first broadcast on August 22nd, 2010. It follows the lives of Cajun “swampers” living in the Atchafalaya River Basin who hunt American Alligators for a living. The show focuses on the month-long alligator hunting season that takes place in September. According to Louisiana law, gator hunters receive a certain number of tags each season. Each tag corresponds to an alligator, so they can take as many gators as they have tags for until they “tag out,” at which point the season is over for them.

Because alligator hides are so valuable, alligator hunters make most of their annual income during this month. For the rest of the year, they hunt other game, but they have a strong incentive to take as many gators as they can during the hunting season. This means that the show is often high-stakes – people are willing to put it all on the line to bring in as many alligators as possible.

As you might expect, the rough-and-tumble swamp people from Louisiana often get into trouble — though whether they find it or it finds them is up for debate. Several of the reality TV stars have been involved in altercations over the years, and others have had tragic accidents. Here’s what has been going on:

Payne Assaults an Officer

In season 2 of Swamp People, Nicholas Payne was featured on the show. Payne was Bruce Mitchell’s apprentice, but his stint on the show was short lived.

Photo: nola.com

On September 23rd, 2011, police responded to a noise complaint at Payne’s address. When the deputy issued him a court summons, Payne hit the officer and fled into the woods. He was later found, arrested, and sent to jail, where it was found that he also had an outstanding fugitive arrest warrant in Oskaloosa, Florida.

However, this wasn’t Payne’s first run in with the law. In 2010, he did one year of probation for simple battery and resisting an officer. Five years before that, he plead guilty in another simple battery case, for which he did five days of community service.

Tragedy on the Bayou

Photo: History Channel

On May 14th, 2012, Swamp People star Mitchell Guist was working on his houseboat when he fell backwards, appearing to have a seizure. Guist was a regular on the show, along with his brother Glenn. After he fell, a bystander got Guist to shore, performed CPR and called 911.

Guist was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital. His autopsy confirmed that Guist died of natural causes — namely a heart attack. Guist was a beloved member of the Swamp People cast, and his sudden death was a shock to the community.

‘Trapper Joe’ Domestic Battery Charges

Joseph LaFont, often called ‘Trapper Joe’ was a cast member of Swamp People during seasons 1, 2, 3, and 6. Though popular on the show, Trapper Joe ran into some trouble several years ago when he got into a physical altercation with his live-in girlfriend.

Photo: nola.com

After a verbal argument on April 12th, 2013, LaFont shoved his girlfriend to the floor. After X-Rays and a CAT scan, LaFont’s girlfriend discovered that two of her ribs had been fractured and contacted the sheriff’s department to record the incident for civil litigation. However, prosecutors decided to pursue criminal charges, and LaFont was arrested on May 6th.

Before this incident, Trapper Joe had already been arrested twice for domestic abuse related incidents.

Beer Bottle Beat Down

Father and son team Ronald (R.J.) and Jay Paul Molinere have been cast members on Swamp People since season 2. These professional hunters are tough when it comes to gators – and apparently when it comes to people as well.

On August 8th, 2013, R.J. and Jay Paul allegedly followed a 24-year old man to a convenience store in Bourg, Louisiana. The two are alleged to have assaulted the man, beating him and even striking him over the head with a beer bottle. The victim had a black eye, knot on his head and a messed up jaw.

Photo: History Channel

R.J. and Jay Paul turned themselves in after a warrant was issued for their arrest. However, the story doesn’t end there. After their arrest, the father-son-duo plead not guilty to the charges against them, claiming that they had in fact been the victims of aggravated assault.

As of today, there is no information available on the court proceedings in the Molinere case. However, R.J. and Jay Paul returned to the show several months later, leading some to suspect that the charges may have been dropped.

The Cast Gets Fired & Season 8 Cancelled

When fans tuned in to season 7 of Swamp People, they were surprised to see that something was missing – their favorite cast members! 8 members of the show did not return for its seventh season, and some of them were very vocal about it on social media.

The History Channel replaced the former cast members with people from a different production company. Fans were up in arms, angrily stating that without favorites like ‘Gator Queen’ Liz Cavalier, Jessica Cavalier, and Willie and Junior Edwards, the show was not worth watching. Some even started a petition to bring back the old cast members.

In addition to the upheaval among the cast of Swamp People, season 7 was scheduled to be the last one. The History Channel announced that they were canceling the show, and that it would not return for an 8th season.

What’s Happening Now in 2018?

With the swirling controversy around the fired cast members, many fans had little hope that their show would return for another season. However, The History Channel made viewers very pleased when they announced that the show would continue into the 8th season.

After fans went wild over the cancellation of Swamp People, The History Channel decided to reconsider its decision to cancel. Viewers and cast members alike were happy to hear the news.

For all the drama and mayhem, Swamp People will continue to bring joy to fans everywhere. The release date for season 8 hasn’t been announced yet, but you can be sure that faithful viewers will be tuning in whenever it is.

June’s daughter, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, was skyrocketed to reality TV fame in 2012, . Her mother was right by her side. ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ was a wildly popular show that had over 2 million viewers, many of whom were big fans of Mama June. However, the show abruptly disappeared from the airwaves in 2014. Fans wondered what had happened to her. What has Mama June been up to since ‘Honey Boo Boo,’ and what is she doing in 2016?

June’s Early Life

June Shannon was born on August 10th, 1979 in McIntrye, Georgia. When she was a child, June developed cataracts that left her legally blind after improper treatment. She has no vision in one eye and limited vision in the other. Because of this, June does not have a driver’s license.

She also had an accident involving a forklift when she worked in a warehouse. While it is unclear exactly what happened, it seems that the forklift ran over her foot. This resulted in what she calls her “forklift foot.” For this reason, June is almost always seen wearing socks.

Alana Thompson was such a big hit on TLC’s show ‘Toddlers and Tiaras’ that she was given her own show. ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ premiered in 2012. It followed the exploits of the Thompson family in McIntyre, Georgia Honey Boo Boo’s antics are the central tenant of the show. Her bizarre (and rather unhealthy) eating habits, thick accent, and wild behavior make her entertaining to watch .

While she is certainly the star of the show, Mama June is nearly as popular. Other cast members include Honey Boo Boo’s father, Mike Thompson, Lauryn Shannon, Jessica Shannon, and Anna Shannon. June is mother to all 4 girls, but all of them have different fathers.

On the show, Mama June is known for being something of a redneck eccentric. She hates mayonnaise, has never been married, is a dedicated couponer, and enjoys “crop dusting” people in her free time.

June became a grandmother at 32 years of age. Her daughter, Anna had a baby girl named Kaitlyn during Season 1 of the show.

Reception of ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ was extremely mixed. While millions of fans were dedicated to the show, many TV critics found it “offensive,” and “exploitative.” Despite the criticism, the show ran for 3 seasons and was very successful.

Honey Boo Boo Canceled

In October 2014, TLC canceled ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.’ Despite having filmed another season of the profitable show, TLC decided to take the financial hit after allegations emerged that she was dating a registered sex offender.

After she split with Mike Thompson, rumors emerged that she was seeing Mark McDaniel. McDaniel is a convicted child molester, and concerns for the children’s safety were the issue. However, June Shannon says allegations that she was involved with McDaniel are not true. She says that the leaked photo of them together was faked.

The story thickened, however, when June’s daughter Anna Shannon revealed that she was molested by McDaniel in 2004. Anna told RadarOnline that she believed that her mother was seeing McDaniel, and that the situation had likely hurt their relationship beyond repair.

There is little information available on the outcome of the situation, but in any case, TLC stands firm by its decision to distance itself from ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.’

What’s June Shannon Doing Now in 2018- Recent Updates

Just because her show was canceled doesn’t mean Mama June hasn’t been busy. June Shannon has gone through some major life changes.

In an interview last year, June’s daughter, Lauryn, AKA Pumpkin, came out as bisexual. Though the interview was all about Pumpkin, the then 15 year old eventually let slip that her mother was bisexual as well. Mama June revealed that as far as relationships with women were concerned, she “played in the minors but never went pro.” This meant that she had experimented with women, but had never been in a same-sex relationship.

Though Mama June and Pumpkin live in a very conservative area of the country, they do not fear backlash for this revelation. When asked about attitudes toward her sexuality, June responded, “I look at it this way: haters gonna hate.”

This year, Mama June has also moved her family out of the house that they lived in during the show. She has been making significant renovations to the house, allowing each of her daughters to decorate her own room. Though the house is much larger, it has become home for Mama June and her daughters. It even has a stockpile of discount supplies in the dining room!

Unfortunately, this year hasn’t been all good for June Shannon. In March, she had a significant health scare, resulting in hospitalization. June allegedly fell down the stairs of her home and had to be rushed to the hospital. Reports say that June was attempting to lose weight at the time. Her dieting regimen may have been partially to blame for her accident. Sources say she was dieting heavily and skipping meals. June is also scheduled to appear on E!’s series Botched to remove excess skin from her weight loss.

Mama June has also hinted that Honey Boo Boo fans might be in for good news in 2016. In the caption of an Instagram video, Mama June revealed that the family has a few projects coming up this year. This means that fans might see the return of Honey Boo Boo. There’s no concrete evidence yet, but keep your eyes out for more of Mama June!

The post What Happened to June Shannon- News & Updates appeared first on Gazette Review.

As the name suggests, having a great backpack is an essential part of the backpacking experience. Good hiking backpacks can make the difference between a great day on the trail and an uncomfortable experience complete with sore shoulders and tired muscles.

Having a backpack that conforms to your body, holds all of your supplies and doesn’t weigh a ton will help you enjoy your hiking experience more, while helping keep you safe. Having a pack that is too heavy or doesn’t fit properly can threaten your longterm health, besides just being downright uncomfortable.

If you’re planning an outdoor adventure, you should make sure you’re happy with your pack and that it’s going to work for you. Here is a selection of our favorite hiking backpacks this season, as well as a few pointers to help you pick the pack that’s right for you.

What to Consider When Buying a Backpack

Backpacks aren’t just for students, though shopping for a hiking backpack is a little different than looking for one to put your books in. Consider these things to make sure you and your pack stay safe on the trail:

Capacity:

Making sure that your backpack can fit everything you need for your trip is obviously important. The amount of gear that you’ll need to bring is related to the length of your trip, so consider how long you’ll be on the trail before looking for a backpack.

Fit:

Having a backpack that is too big or too small can ruin a trip. Avoid discomfort by getting your backpack fitted properly. Many people try to fit their backpack by buying one suggested for their overall height, but this won’t work for many people. To find the perfect fit, measure your torso instead of your overall height and find a backpack that will be an appropriate size.

Features:

Special features like water bottle pockets or storage for electronic devices aren’t essential, but they can really improve your trip. If there are additional features that are important to you, make sure you consider them when looking for your next backpack.

Trip Length:

Considering how long you’ll be on the trail is a big part of picking the right pack. If you’ll be out for 1-3 nights, you should look for a pack that holds 30-50 liters. Trips that will take 3-5 nights require packs that can hold 50-80 liters. If you’re going on an extended trip, you will need a pack that holds more than 70 liters.

The only problem people have cited is that the frame can be a little squeaky. Other than that, this pack is truly excellent for those looking to pack light and stay comfortable.

If you’re packing for your next adventure in the great outdoors, remember to bring an axe. No camping trip is complete without a campfire, and building a good fire means splitting wood. Whether you are roughing it in the backcountry, cutting down trees and hacking apart logs, or sleeping in a luxury RV and breaking up sticks, having a tool to help you build your fire is a must, no matter where you go.

Camping axes can also be used to sharpen sticks for roasting food over the fire, hammering equipment around camp, or, in extreme situations, self defense. They have a whole host of survival uses, and are just generally a great tool to have around.

Things To Consider When Buying an Axe

Having the right axe can make a huge difference in your camping experience, but how do you know which one is right for you? Your local sporting goods store probably has a wide selection of different axes, but if you don’t know what you’re looking for, the choice can be overwhelming. Here are some considerations that can help guide your selection:

Weight

Knowing the weight of your axe or hatchet is extremely important, especially if you will be hiking. Having unnecessary weight in your pack is exhausting and can be more than a little inconvenient. Finding an axe that is lightweight and effective can help campers of all skill levels have a more enjoyable outdoor experience.

Size

If you’re on a camping trip, you certainly don’t need a big lumberjack axe used for chopping down trees. A good camping axe should be between 12” and 24”. This size is ideal for a camp environment, because it means that the axe is easy to carry or stow. Shorter hatchets are great for portability, but will offer less strength and control. On the other hand, a longer axe will give you more momentum, but is harder to carry around.

Strength

As mentioned above, longer axes are stronger because of the physics involved in splitting wood. Additionally, the construction of your axe will have an impact on its strength as well. Axes where the head and handle are forged of one solid piece of metal will be stronger and will tend to last longer.

Price

As with most outdoor equipment, you get the axe that you pay for. More expensive, name brand axes usually perform better than cheaper ones. If you are an avid camper or someone who splits logs often, it might be wise to invest a little more money on a well-made axe. On the other hand, if axe quality doesn’t matter that much to you or you aren’t much of an outdoorsman, it makes sense to go with a cheaper option.

Axe or Hatchet?

Axes and hatchets don’t really look that much different, but using the right terminology can help you find what you’re looking for. In general, axes are longer handled tools designed to be used with two hands to chop, split or hew wood and fell trees. Hatchets are essentially one-handed axes that are ideal for splitting small pieces of firewood.

Best Camping Axes

Once you know what you have in mind for your axe, it’s time to start shopping. While you do this, it’s important to keep in mind that no two camping trips are created equal; the perfect axe for someone else may not be right for your situation, or vice versa. However, here are a few suggestions that work well in a variety situations and can fit into many budgets.

Estwing E24A Sportsman’s Axe

Weight: 30.4oz

Blade Length: 3.25”

Overall Length: 16”

Price: $30-$40

Manufactured in America since 1923, Estwing has been a trusted brand for almost a century. One-piece steel construction makes this axe extremely durable, and it will stand up to decades worth of wear-and-tear. The narrow head makes it perfect for splitting logs, and it is extremely portable. However, this little hatchet won’t be your best bet for felling trees — while it is perfect for use around camp, it is neither strong nor sturdy enough to take on really big projects. Overall, this old standby makes a great camp axe that will hold up well in many situations.

Gerber Gator Combo Axe

Weight: 23.6oz

Blade Length: 2.7”

Overall Length: 8.75”

Price: $30-$40

If you’re wandering out into the wilderness and looking for a lightweight hatchet to carry with you, the Gerber Gator Combo Axe is a great bet. Weighing in at just 2 pounds, it won’t add extra weight to your bag, but it is still tough and reliable. The hollow handle of the axe holds a 7” long knife that can be used for a variety of smaller tasks. Buyers say it is lightweight, sturdy and easy to sharpen. Again, because this axe is smaller, it is not ideal for bigger tasks, but it is great for splitting up smaller sticks and firewood.

Fiskars X11 Splitting Axe

Weight: 35.2oz

Blade Length: 3”

Overall Length: 20”

Price: $35-$45

This axe harnesses the power of physics to bring you superior wood-splitting ability in a reasonable price range. It is designed for one-handed use, but comes in a variety of sizes that can handle bigger jobs (up to 36”). Some buyers complain that the handle is not very sturdy, and its length and density make it inconvenient for trips where you must pack light. However, this axe is great for general camp use and its power and usability make it perfect for almost any outdoor enthusiast.

Kershaw Camp Ax

Weight: 14.5oz

Overall Length: 11”

Price: $35-$50

Sometimes the best things come in small packages. The Kershaw Camp Ax is a perfect example; the ax itself weighs less than a pound, but still packs a punch. Its single piece construction makes it exceptionally strong and durable, and the curved handle gives just the right amount of leverage to chop and split wood. This axe is easy to throw into a pack, and you will hardly notice its weight. Like other small hatchets, this one won’t stand up to heavy-duty jobs, but it is perfect for any camping situation.

When people think of The Jackson 5, the first name that probably comes to mind is Michael Jackson. His voice was well-known for making hits like “I Want You Back,” “ABC” and “I’ll Be There” hugely successful, and he went on to become one of the biggest names in the music industry. However, Michael certainly wasn’t the only talented Jackson. His older brother Marlon was an important member of The Jackson 5, but never went on to be as famous as his brother. What happened to Marlon after The Jackson 5 fell apart, and what has he been doing since?

Early Life

Marlon Jackson was born March 12th, 1957 to Joseph and Katherine Jackson in Gary, Indiana. He was the sixth son of the Jackson family (one year older than Michael), though his twin brother Brandon was stillborn. While he was growing up, Marlon’s brothers Tito, Jermaine and Jackie performed as a trio known as the Jackson Brothers, which their father managed.

By 1965, Michael and Marlon had joined their brothers, and the group renamed itself The Jackson 5. After several years performing and competing around the country, they were eventually signed by Motown Records in 1969. The Jackson 5 was an instant success, and in 1970, they became the first group to have their first four singles hit the top of the Hot 100 chart.

Marlon was known as “the Dancingest Jackson” at the height of the group’s fame, a name that he came up with himself to describe his flamboyant dance moves. He was also a well-known jokester while the brothers were backstage, and always had a sense of humor. While Marlon was not the most prominent Jackson brother, he sang lead vocals on a number of their hits and was an invaluable part of the group.

The Jackson 5’s success was unfortunately rather short-lived. After a legal dispute with Motown Records in 1976, the Jackson family moved to Epic Records, where they renamed themselves “The Jacksons.” Randy Jackson replaced Jermaine after he elected to remain with Motown Several of the brothers launched solo careers, and the family band eventually fell apart.

Solo Career

After the Jacksons stopped playing together, Marlon went on to become a musician in his own right. In 1987, he released his solo album, “Baby Tonight.” The album featured the song “Don’t Go,” which was a huge success, and hit number 2 on the R&B charts.

Later Years

Unlike many of his brothers, Marlon chose to leave the music business. For several years, he was a successful real estate agent in Southern California. However, entertainment was certainly Marlon’s calling, and in 1999, he started running the Major Broadcasting Corporation (MBC).

MBC was a primarily religious network based in Atlanta, and in 2004, it changed its name to the Black Family Channel. However, in May 2007, the Black Family Channel was stopped airing content, and its subscriber base was sold to the Gospel Music Channel.

Though Marlon left the music industry, he continued to perform with his brothers occasionally. They toured together in 1984, 1997 and 2001. Sadly, the brothers also gathered together to mourn the death of Michael Jackson in 2009. At Michael’s memorial, Marlon said a tearful goodbye to his brother and asked Michael to give his twin brother, Brandon, a hug for him.

What’s He Doing Now in 2018

In 2016, Marlon continues to live a full life. He is still married to his wife Carol, and they have three children together, Valencia, Marlon and Brittany. At 59 years of age, he lives with his wife in Los Angeles, California.
