Ramsey Khalid Ismael, who goes by Johnny Somali online, got in trouble for things like dancing on and kissing a statue dedicated to victims of wartime sexual slavery.

A court in Seoul found him guilty on several counts, including getting in the way of businesses and sharing fake explicit content.

After the ruling, he was taken straight into custody.

He had already been banned from leaving the country since 2024 because authorities believed he might try to flee.

Prosecutors had pushed for a much longer sentence of three years.

The charges against him went beyond the statue incident too. Aside from that, he also got in trouble for bothering people at an amusement park, and causing disruptions in a convenience store by blasting music and making a mess.

He also pulled similar antics on public transit.

At one point, he also played the North Korean national anthem loudly in public, which is a public offence in South Korea.

There were also allegations tied to non-consensual deepfake videos.

The court said his actions showed clear disregard for local laws, and that his livestreams upset many people, especially since they were meant to generate money on YouTube.

He later said he was sorry and claimed he didn’t fully understand the meaning behind the statue at the time, and he ended up deleting the video.

Along with the prison sentence, he was given an extra 20 days in detention and will not be allowed to work with children or people with disabilities for five years after getting out.

Judges said his actions repeatedly targeted the public for profit, with little regard for the law.

Reports also said he seemed to show remorse before appearing in court, which likely worked in his favor; the judge noted there wasn’t significant harm done to specific victims.

This isn’t the first time he’s run into legal trouble abroad either.

In 2024, he was detained during a protest in Tel Aviv after making inappropriate comments toward a police officer while livestreaming.

He had also been arrested in Japan the year before for trespassing at a construction site in Osaka, and was fined about $1,000 for causing a disturbance at a restaurant.

As for what will happen afterwards, local media say he’ll likely be deported from South Korea once he finishes his sentence.

He was surrounded in his final days by his wife, his daughters Georgia and Billie, and several close friends.

When he first went public with his diagnosis, Dane said he felt thankful to have his loving family by his side as they faced the challenging journey together.

According to his family, he became a strong advocate for ALS awareness and research, determined to help others who were confronting the same diagnosis.

They said he will be deeply missed and always remembered, adding that he truly adored his fans and appreciated the constant support and love they showed him.

The family has asked for privacy as they move through this difficult time.

Dane portrayed Dr. Mark Sloan on “Grey’s Anatomy” from 2006 to 2012; his character, a plastic surgeon, was later killed off following injuries from a plane crash in the season eight finale.

On “Euphoria,” he took on the role of Cal Jacobs, one of the show’s main antagonists.

His film credits also include playing the shapeshifter in the 2006 “X-Men” movie and Marcus in the 2010 film “Burlesque.”

Born November 9, 1972, in San Francisco, Dane first appeared as Jason Dean on the series “Charmed” and played a doctor on “Gideon’s Crossing” before eventually landing his breakout role on “Grey’s Anatomy.”

He was diagnosed with ALS in 2024. Just two months after going public with the news, he shared in a summer interview that he had already lost the use of one of his arms.

Dane explained that his first symptom was weakness in his right hand; after months of appointments with various specialists, he was given the ALS diagnosis.

He often talked about how much he leaned on his wife, fellow actor Rebecca Gayheart, saying she was his biggest source of comfort through it all.

Before his death, Dane served on the board of directors for Target ALS and supported I AM ALS, two nonprofit organizations dedicated to advancing research and fighting the disease.

Arakawa, who had been married to Hackman for over 30 years, was found dead in the couple’s New Mexico home on February 26.

When authorities arrived at the scene, the couple’s dogs led them to a bathroom where Arakawa’s body was discovered. Hackman was later found deceased in another room, along with one of their dogs.

Investigators determined that the two had died at different times. Arakawa is believed to have passed away around February 12, while Hackman is thought to have died nearly a week later on February 18.

The causes of death also differed. Autopsy reports showed that Hackman died from severe heart disease related to Alzheimer’s, while Arakawa’s death was attributed to Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome—a rare and potentially fatal illness spread by rodents like mice.

Just two days before her death, on February 10, Arakawa searched terms like “can Covid-19 cause dizziness” and “flu and nosebleeds” on Google.

The following day, she canceled a massage appointment, telling her therapist that Hackman was experiencing flu-like symptoms, though he had tested negative for Covid.

Arakawa had also ordered several canisters of oxygen from Amazon for “respiratory support.” Police noted that she had also contacted a local health clinic multiple times seeking medical attention, but never received treatment.

Since her passing, three additional hantavirus-related deaths have been reported in the small California town.

Dr. Tom Boo, a public health officer, said it’s unclear how the most recent victim contracted the virus. While some mice had been spotted at the individual’s workplace, there was no evidence of rodent activity in their home.

Investigators also haven’t identified any recent activities that may have increased the person’s exposure to rodents.

Dr. Boo expressed concern over the recent spike in hantavirus cases so early in the year, noting that the virus is typically more common during the spring and summer months.

What is Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome?

Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome is a rare, potentially life-threatening condition that starts with flu-like symptoms. It’s caused by the hantavirus, which is carried by various types of rodents, the most common being the deer mouse.

Individuals become infected after inhaling hantaviruses from rodent droppings, urine, or saliva, from the air.

While treatment options are limited, prognosis improves with early diagnosis and immediate hospitalization and treatment. For example, those with severe cases may require intubation and mechanical ventilation.

Some people may also require ECMO treatment to ensure their body receives adequate oxygen.

What Is ALS?

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative condition that affects motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord.

The disease typically begins with symptoms like muscle weakness in the limbs, twitching, slurred speech, or difficulty swallowing, which tend to worsen over time.

Other signs include trouble walking, frequent tripping or falling, muscle cramps, and changes in behavior or personality.

As ALS advances, it gradually breaks down the nerve connections needed for speaking, chewing, swallowing, walking, and eventually breathing.

Depending on the severity, some people may need to wear a mask ventilator at night to help them breathe. Others may opt for a trachestomy, where surgeons create a hole in the neck.

In its early stages, ALS usually doesn’t cause pain, and it does not impact the senses, meaning individuals can still see, hear, smell, taste, and feel.

While about 10% of ALS cases are inherited, the cause of most cases remains unknown.

However, researchers have identified several risk factors, including age (ALS is most commonly diagnosed in individuals between 60 and the mid-80s) and sex, with men slightly more likely to develop the disease than women before the age of 65.

Environmental factors may also play a role. For example, exposure to toxins, cigarette smoking, and military service have all been associated with a higher risk of developing ALS.

Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for ALS. However, there are medications that can help slow the progression of the disease and prevent complications. Physical therapy can also help individuals stay independent by helping to manage muscle weakness and mobility challenges.

According to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, many people live between three to five years after receiving their diagnosis. However, some people can live for decades with ALS.

According to authorities, Betsy Arakawa, 65, passed away around February 11 due to hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, a rare and often deadly disease spread by rodents. Hackman, 95, died a week later from cardiovascular disease. He was also battling advanced Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Heather Jarrell, the chief medical investigator, stated that Hackman’s official cause of death was “atherosclerotic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease,” with Alzheimer’s being a “significant contributory factor.” She noted that Hackman was in “very poor health,” and his advanced Alzheimer’s played a role in his passing.

Arakawa’s death was caused by hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, which spreads through exposure to rodent droppings, urine, or saliva. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, early symptoms are similar to that of the flu but can quickly worsen, leading to severe respiratory distress.

Dr. Jarrell explained that after exposure to rodent droppings, symptoms typically appear within three to six days. In some cases, the disease progresses to a pulmonary phase, causing fluid buildup in and around the lungs. Without prompt medical treatment, death can occur within 24 to 48 hours.

Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza stated that Gene Hackman was likely home with his wife’s body for about a week before he passed away. Officials noted that there was no food in his stomach, suggesting he hadn’t eaten recently, though there were no signs of dehydration.

Due to Hackman’s advanced Alzheimer’s, authorities believe he may not have realized that his wife had died, though this cannot be confirmed.

Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead in their home on February 26 during a welfare check. On February 9, she picked up one of their dogs from the vet after a procedure. That same dog was later found dead in the house alongside them.

On February 11, Arakawa visited a local farmer’s market and a pet store before returning home around 5:15 p.m.

Authorities found no evidence that she communicated with anyone after that day. Her emails after February 11 remained unread.

Dr. Erin Phipps stated that the dog may have died from a lack of food and water, but the official cause of death will not be confirmed until necropsy results are available.

Dr. Danielle Brandman, a medical director specializing in liver transplantation and disease, explained that by the time a patient is discharged from the hospital after surgery, it typically indicates that “the liver is working.”

However, serious complications can still occur, including heart attacks, blood clots, or damage to the veins and arteries where the new organ was attached, which can lead to liver failure.

Some post-transplant medications may also cause elevated potassium levels in the blood, which may affect heart function, said Dr. Elliot Tapper, an associate professor of hepatology.

Dr. Brandman explained that liver transplants are “one of the most involved surgeries that can be performed” and that patients often feel sick afterwards, requiring assistance with daily activities.

Liver transplants are typically a last resort for individuals with irreversible organ damage. In the United States, around 10,000 people undergo the procedure each year, while approximately 24,000 remain on the waiting list at any given time.

The specific reason for Trachtenberg’s liver transplant has not been disclosed. However, in the U.S., alcohol-related liver disease is the leading cause of liver transplants.

In 2023, more than 41 percent of transplant recipients had alcohol-related liver disease, while fatty liver disease—often linked to diabetes and obesity—was the second most common reason, accounting for 20 percent of cases.

Other common causes for liver transplants include viral hepatitis, liver cancer, and autoimmune conditions such as primary schlerosing cholangitis, and primiary biliary cirrhosis.

Authorities are investigating the deaths of actor Gene Hackman and his wife, after they were found deceased alongside one of their dogs in their New Mexico home.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office said the couple was discovered on Wednesday during a welfare check. While the exact cause of death remains unknown, officials described the circumstances as “suspicious enough” to warrant a thorough investigation.

A press release issued Thursday afternoon stated that initial autopsy findings showed “no external trauma” on either Hackman or Arakawa. However, the cause of death has yet to be determined.

Their bodies were discovered by maintenance workers—Hackman was found lying in the mudroom near the kitchen, with his sunglasses beside him, while Arakawa was in the bathroom. A bottle of prescription medication was open on the countertop, with pills scattered nearby. Detectives believe both may have collapsed.

One of the couple’s three dogs, a German shepherd, was also found dead inside a crate in the bathroom closet near Arakawa, while the other two dogs were unharmed—one was seen pacing near Arakawa, and the other was running loose outside.

Although the front door of the home was open, authorities found no signs of forced entry. The investigation is ongoing.

At first, officials suspected carbon monoxide poisoning but after the fire department and gas company inspected the home, no traces of the gas were detected and there were no signs of a leak.

It’s unclear exactly when the couple passed away. Investigators noted that Arakawa’s body showed visible signs of decomposition, including facial bloating and mummification of her hands and feet. Hackman’s body was in a similar condition.

A space heater was found near Arakawa’s head, leading detectives to consider the possibility that it fell when she collapsed onto the ground.

Authorities conducted a thorough search of the property, looking for phones, fingerprints, and DNA evidence. While there were no visible signs of trauma on either body, investigators have not ruled out the possibility that a sharp or blunt object may have been used as a weapon.

Authorities have not ruled out foul play, though there are no clear signs of it at this time. For now, they are “keeping all possibilities open.”

A search warrant for the home was approved by Judge John Rysanek on Wednesday evening. Once the search was completed, officials deemed the premises safe to enter.

The Sheriff’s Office said the county Animal Countrol Division has worked with the family to ensuyre the safety of the two remaining dogs.

Hackman is survived by his daughters and grandchildren.

The 31-year-old musician, who rose to fame in the early 2010s as part of the boy band, was found dead with 25 injuries consistent with those caused by falling, including severe head injuries, with external and internal bleeding.

The prosecutors’ office found no evidence of there being a thirty party involved. However, they deemed the death ‘suspicious’, stating that it’s highly likely that the singer was taking drugs and alcohol.

In a statement, the local police said they were called to the scene by hotel staff after confronting an ‘aggressive man who seemed to be under the effects of alcohol and drugs.’

Upon arriving at the hotel room, city police found substances inside the room that appeared to be narcotics. Many alcohol beverages were also scattered across the room, in front of destroyed furniture and objects, in addition to several packs of benzodiazepine.

The prosecutors’ office said evidence suggests that Payne was alone in the hotel room when he plunged from the balcony. The fact that he had no defensive wounds on his hands also suggests he may have been unconscious when he fell.

A cellphone, lighter, and whiskey bottle, were also recovered from the courtyard, where the musician’s body was found.

Hotel Staff Called the Police

A hotel manager called 911 after Payne allegedly became ‘overwhelmed with alcohol and drugs.’ In the call, he could be heard telling dispatchers that ‘[Payne] was destroying the entire room’ and that they needed someone to come.

The manager grew increasingly anxious as the call continued, as he knew the room had a balcony. He was worried that he would put his own life at risk.

Payne Had Traveled For His Former Bandmate’s Concert

In the weeks prior to his death, Payne had traveled to Argentina with his girlfriend to attend his former One Direction bandmate, Niall Horan’s concert.

On Oct. 2, Payne was filmed waving to fans in Buenos Aires.

His girlfriend, influencer Kate Cassidy, had gone home before him, according to a TikTok video that she posted on Oct. 14.

Payne, who initially rose to fame on The X Factor in 2010, shared a son with his ex-girlfriend, Cheryl, who was a member of Girls Aloud.

From 2020 to early 2022, the musician was engaged to Maya Henry.

Everyone Is ‘Heartbroken’

Payne’s family described the musician as a ‘funny and kind soul’ and said they were ‘heartbroken’ by the news.

The singer’s former bandmates also said in a statement that they are ‘completely devastated’ by his death. They added that they ‘were supporting each other during this awful time and that it will take time for them to process and grieve the loss of [their] brother’.

Following his death, several people paid tributes to the musician, including singers Charlie Puth, Rita Ora, as well as Wanted star Max George, and X Factor Host Dermot O’Learly.

Super Size Me

Spurlock made himself known in 2004 with his groundbreaking documentary film Super Size Me, in which he looked at the psychological and physical effects of eating nothing but McDonald’s for 30 days. By the end of it, he gained nearly 25 pounds, lost his sex drive, and saw an increase in his cholesterol.

The film, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, went on to earn more than $22 million, as well as an Academy award nomination. It also caused a backlash against the fast food industry, though the effects were only temporary.

However, it wasn’t without criticism. After the backlash against the industry subsided, many began to point out that Spurlock had refused to release his daily logs on which he had tracked his calories and food intake. History of Sexual Misconduct

His 2017 documentary film, Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken! was scheduled to premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. In the midst of the #MeToo movement, however, Spurlock came forward and talked about his own sexual misconduct history, which caused the film to be shelved.

He revealed that he had been accused on rape while he was a college student and that he had also been involved in a sexual harassment case with a former assistant.

He also confessed that he had cheated on several partners, writing that ‘[he] was part of the problem.’

In a subsequent interview, he said he experienced ‘a moment of realization’ where he realized that ‘[he] could do better in [his] life.’

Spurlock was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and raised in Beckley, as the only child of Phyllis and Ben Spurlock.

He is survived by his two children, his parents, and former partners Sara Bernstein and Alexandra Jamieson, with whom he shared his sons.
