The majority of the money a skaters earns is through sponsors, from shoes, clothes, boards etc. Ryan has been affiliated with Oakley, Plan B, Go Pro and others. In addition to sponsorship deals, Ryan has earned an awful lot of first place prizes at skate competitions, which can yield upwards of $10,000, back in the early 2000s, and more than $30,000 these days. Add in DVD sales and you got a large portion of his $16 million fortune accounted for.
