A singer-songwriter, Lil Peep was known for having been part of the “post-emo revival of hip-hop.” Highly involved with music ever since his teens, he released his first mixtape dubbed, Lil Peep Part One in 2015.
Despite his talents, however, the rapper tragically died from an accidental drug overdose in the fall of 2017. Following his death, a posthumous video for Sixteen Lines was released online. Since then, two collaborations- both completed prior to his death- have also been released, Got Em Like, and Spotlight.
How Lil Peep Became Famous
Often described as an “emotional rapper”, Lil Peep began posting his music to SoundCloud and Youtube in the mid-2010’s. His first mixtape, Lil Peep Part One, came out in 2015. An overall success, it generated over 4,000 plays within the first week.
Over the next couple of years, he continued to drop new records on a regular basis; some of his subsequent titles include Live Forever, Hellboy, Crybaby, Feels, Vertigo, and Teen Romances, to name a few.
Perhaps his most noteworthy drop of all, however, is the album, Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 1. Made available on August 15, 2017, it reached as high as number 38 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and at number 3 on the U.S. Alternatives Albums chart. Some of the hit songs that it went on to spawn include The Brightside, Awful Things, Save That Shit, and Benz Truck.
Lil Peep’s Death
Tragically, the rapper was found dead by his manager on his tour bus on November 15, 2017. Following an investigation, it was determined that his cause of death was an accidental overdose of the effects of alprazolam and fentanyl; additional blood tests also found traces of Tramadol, cocaine, and marijuana.
Following his death, many artists in the industry have paid tribute including Marshmello, Rich Chigga, Lil Uzi Vert, Playboi Carti, and Lil Pump.
