Hailing from Australia, Marcel Hirscher has represented his country numerous times as an alpine ski racer. Known for achievements in both slalom and giant slalom, he is currently considered one of the best skiers in history. A two-time Olympian, he recently competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics where he took home two gold medals.
Born on March 2, 1989, in Austria, he grew up in a rustic environment in the town of Annaberg. The son of two skiing instructors, he put on his first pair of skis before he could even walk. At the age of eighteen, he competed in his first Junior World Ski Championships in Flachau.
How Marcel Hirscher Became Famous
In 2013, Hirscher gained significant attention after winning two gold medals at the World Championships, one in the slalom and another in the team event. A year later, he was given the opportunity to represent Austria at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Russia. In the end, he went home with a silver medal- one that he had won on the slalom.
Over the next few years, he continued to prove himself at the World Championships. In 2015 alone, he had won three medals, two of which were gold. Most recently, he also won two golds and a silver at the 2017 World Event in St. Moritz.
Earlier this year, the skier was selected to represent his country for a second time at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang. Despite having experienced a preseason ankle injury, he went on to win a gold in the combined event, and a gold in the giant slalom.

He is currently in a relationship with longtime girlfriend, Laura Moisl. Not only do the two live together, but they also have a cocker spaniel named Timon.
