UEFA Champions League – Groups, Matches & More

The UEFA Champions League draw is now complete and we now know the groups. Every year, the draw gives us a few surprises and this edition is no different. The UEFA Champions League recently kicked off with the qualifying stage and it won’t be long before the group stage starts. Here is everything you need to know about the UEFA Champions League groups, matches and more:

Group A

  • Atletico Madrid
  • Club Brugge
  • Borussia Dortmund
  • Monaco

Group A is quite interesting as it has some teams that have done well in recent editions. Atletico Madrid has reached two finals in recent years while Dortmund has had great results and also reached a final a few years back. Monaco had a great run two years ago so this group could come down to the last match of the group stage.

Matchday 1: Club Brugge vs. Dortmund and Monaco vs. Atletico Madrid.

Group B

  • Barcelona
  • PSV Eindhoven
  • Inter Milan
  • Tottenham Hotspur

Group B is pretty solid and it is difficult to predict which teams will advance. Barcelona is a clear candidate to advance but the second spot could be close.

Matchday 1: Barcelona vs. PSV and Inter Milan vs. Tottenham.

Group C

  • PSG
  • Napoli
  • Liverpool
  • FK Crvena Zvezda

Group C will likely be very interesting until the end as there are several strong candidates. PSG is coming off a disappointing Champions League last year but the French club can’t be ruled out with superstars such as Neymar, Cavani and Mbappe on its roster. Napoli has done well in recent editions while Liverpool was one of the teams in last year’s final.

Matchday 1: PSG vs. Liverpool and Napoli vs. Crvena Zvezda.

Group D

  • Lokomotiv Moskva
  • Porto
  • Schalke 04
  • Galatasaray

This group looks really even and the two spots could go to any of them. This is easily one of the most difficult groups to predict for the 2018-19 Champions League group stage.

Matchday 1: Schalke 04 vs. Porto and Galatasaray vs. Lokomotiv Moskva.

Group E

  • Bayern Munchen
  • Benfica
  • Ajax
  • AEK Athens

Bayern Munchen looks like the strong candidate to take the top spot in Group E but things could turn very interesting for the second spot.

Matchday 1: Ajax vs. AEK Athens and Bayern vs. Benfica.

Group F

  • Manchester City
  • Shakhtar Donetsk
  • Olympique Lyonnais
  • TSG 1899 Hoffenheim

Group F has two teams that have recently faced each other in the Champions League group stage, Manchester City and Shakhtar Donetsk. Manchester City appears to be the favorite to win the group but the second spot could be very close.

Matchday 1: Shakhtar Donetsk vs. Hoffenheim and Manchester City vs. Olympique Lyonnais.

Group G

  • Real Madrid
  • CSKA Moskva
  • Roma
  • Viktoria Plzen

Current Champions League champions, Real Madrid, appear to have an easy group stage. The Spanish club’s biggest opponent could be Roma, a team that made a solid run in the last edition of the tournament. Real Madrid and Roma have recently met but in the second round of the Champions League.

Matchday 1: Real Madrid vs. Roma and CSKA Moskva vs. Viktoria Plzen.

Group H

  • Juventus
  • Manchester United
  • BSC Young Boys
  • Valencia

Group H will be very interesting to watch with Cristiano Ronaldo now playing for Italian club Juventus. The group includes Manchester United, one of the teams Ronaldo played for early in his career. Ronaldo has played against Manchester United in the past but it is always fun to watch the Portuguese star face his former club.
