Born on February 17, 1991, Ed Sheeran had a very early upbringing in music as he was part of the church choir at four years old. Sheeran’s interest in the tunes steadily grew throughout his childhood. An encounter with singer Damien Rice during the early 2000s solidified Sheeran’s decision in pursuing a music career. He started out with homemade CDs containing original songs in 2005 before releasing an extended play titled The Orange Room. Sheeran decided to drop out of high school to chase his dream and flew to London to work for his favorite duo Nizlopi as a guitar technician. The duo noticed his dedication and offered Sheeran an opening slot on their gigs.
Ed Sheeran’s Rise to Fame
Sheeran’s exposure grew thanks to the Nizlopi gigs and to his release of extended plays. In 2010 he went to Los Angeles in a bid to try something different. He went to different clubs and performed on their open mic sessions. One of these clubs was the Foxxhole which was owned by Jamie Foxx, and Sheeran attracted the actor’s attention with his talent. Foxx invited Sheeran to his pad and helped the singer forge music in his personal recording studio. Sheeran’s YouTube presence boosted Sheeran’s popularity to greater heights, and Elton John himself had Sheeran signed up to his management company Rocket.
In 2011 Sheeran’s debut album + was released to commercial and critical acclaim. It was followed by x in 2014 which was hailed as among the best-selling albums in the United Kingdom. On January 03, 2017, after a long hiatus from music and social media, Sheeran announced the arrival of new music with a ÷ sign and light blue pictures on his accounts which was speculated as a new album considering the mathematically-inclined titles of his previous releases.
Ed Sheeran’s Other Ventures
In 2011 Sheeran founded the company Ed Sheeran Limited, and the next year he established Nathan Cable Touring LLP. Four years later Sheeran started Gingerbread Man Records with two artists signed up. Sheeran also appeared in a Beats by Dr. Dre advertisement in 2014 for the Solo 2 headphones.
Sheeran had his first taste of acting in the 2012 short Watchtower. In 2015 he appeared in the television series The Bastard Executioner as Sir Cormac. He had a cameo in the 2016 romcom Bridget Jones’ Baby and will be appearing in the upcoming documentary What We Started.
