Top 10 Comedy Movies of All Time

Comedy is one of the staple points in Hollywood films. From time to time, everyone loves a good laugh. Interestingly, comedy has definitely shifted as time goes on. In the beginning, we see a lot of puns and riddles, but now we are leaning towards dirty humor. Whether or not this is good is just an opinion, but it is interesting to see how each generation defines what makes a good comedy movie. Movie buffs will recognize a lot of movies on the list, and if your favorite comedy isn’t on it, it probably was a close contender!

# 10 – The Breakfast Club (1985)

Taking the first spot on our list is Breakfast Club. This movie is all about five high schools students who end up in detention, and the bond that they form after getting to know each other. At first, they started out on opposite ends of the spectrum, all from different walks of life and outwardly different. As they get to know each other, they find out that they are all essentially the same. This movie is super iconic and something that most people grew up loving.

# 9 – Monsters, Inc. (2001)

The first Disney film to take the list, Monsters, Inc. is a children’s comedy all about monsters who scare children in order to power their civilization. Monsters, Inc. is a child’s dream movie because it is all about the silly monsters under the bed and how they are actually super harmless. The two main characters of the film, Mike and Sully, are characters that every child today can recognize and that is something that makes this movie so special.

# 8 – The Truman Show (1998)

All about a man who’s entire life is a television show, the Truman Show is a creepy comedy movie. Jim Carrey portrays an insurance salesman who does not actually realize his life is broadcasted to the entire world. His life is constantly being repeated, and it’s not until a stray cast member that he finds out the truth about his life. The Truman Show will you have laughing because of the main character and his antics. It takes him a while to realize what is really going on, and the situations that he gets himself into prior to learning about his life are hilarious.

# 7 – Deadpool (2016)

Deadpool is a modern take on a super hero movie. He is not like any other super hero that you might know, he is very arrogant, rude, and uses very foul language. Deadpool is the opposite of what you think of when you think of a super hero movie. This is why it was so popular for so many people. It broke the barriers between what is a super hero movie and what isn’t and it did it very well. Ryan Reynolds killed his part in the movie and really sold it to audiences. Deadpool takes this spot with ease as it is sure to make anyone who watches it, laugh.

# 6 – Finding Nemo (2003)

Taking the number six spot on our list is Finding Nemo. Another Disney classic has made its way onto the list, simply because of the comedic value that the movie has. This movie has had a lot of children laughing all over the place. Finding Nemo easily took the number one spot in the country when it was debuted. Finding Nemo is all about a clown fish who ends up getting lost, and the journey of bringing him back home. Finding Nemo might not have been the comedy of choice for some adults, but for kids, it was the number one comedy when it came out.

# 5 – The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

A prime example of a more modern comedy movie, Wolf of Wall Street is a biographical comedy that focuses on the life of Jordan Belfort. Jordan is a stock broker that lives the good life of any broker on Wall Street, which includes drugs, crime, and corruption. The Wolf of Wall Street is much different than most of the other movies on this list because it is a lot cruder and uses a darker side of comedy. No matter what your preference is, The Wolf of Wall Street is bound to make you laugh at some point in time, simply because of how extreme this guy’s situation is.

# 4 – Toy Story (1995)

A classic movie that most of us watched as Children, Toy Story is all about a toy box that comes to life while its owners are at school. Without a doubt, Toy Story has been enjoyed by children all across the world and for good reason, it is a comedy movie that makes everyone laugh. Tom Hanks takes the number four spot for Toy Story as he voiced Woody, the main character that you see throughout the movie. Toy Story won 3 Oscars during its time and was number one in the theaters during its opening weekend.

# 3 – Back to the Future (1985)

Back to the Future is all about a high school student and his crazy friend who accidentally go back in time. Back to the Future has earned its spot on this list because of how relatable the characters are. Despite being almost 30 years old, Back to the Future has held up great, being a movie that kids today can still watch and enjoy with their parents. Rated in the top 50 movies of all time on IMDbs list, Back to the Future is a movie that most people have loved at one point.

# 2 – Life is Beautiful (1997)

Life Is Beautiful is a timeless classic that anyone can still enjoy today. Set in Nazi Germany during World War 2, Life Is Beautiful tells the tale of a Jewish librarian who becomes a victim of the Holocaust. He must use his wit and humor in order to survive the Nazis. Life Is Beautiful takes the number 2 spot because of its use of clever and witty lines that really are relatable and make people laugh. Life Is Beautiful won 3 Oscars and 66 other awards. If you haven’t seen this classic, I most definitely recommend you checking it out as it will be sure to make you laugh.

# 1 – Forrest Gump (1994)

Without a doubt, Forrest Gump is a comedy movie that almost anyone can enjoy, no matter how young or old. Tom Hanks portrays Forrest Gump, a not so intelligent man who tells his story and all the peaks and valleys that he encounters during it. Forrest Gump is a family friendly movie that is timeless. During its opening weekend, Forrest Gump earned more than 24 million dollars and was number one in theaters all across North America. Forrest Gump was nominated for 6 Oscars, and won each and every one of them. If, for some reason, you haven’t seen this classic, I cannot recommend it enough as it is sure to get a laugh out of anyone.
