Schoolboy Q Net Worth 2018 – $2.5 Million
How did Schoolboy Q make his money and wealth?
Schoolboy Q, also known as Quincy Hanley, was born in October of 1986 in Hesse, Germany. His parents were divorced before he was born, with his father being in the military. When Quincy was born, he and his mother moved to Texas. They wouldn’t remain in Texas for very long, though, moving to Los Angeles just a couple of years later. He went to John Muir Middle School, which is a school in San Jose. Growing up, Hanley was very much involved in sports. He played a lot of football, mostly wide receiver, cornerback, and halfback. After middle school, Hanley would go on to attend Crenshaw High School, which he would graduate from. After Crenshaw High School, Quincy went to an array of different local colleges, including Glendale Community College, Los Angeles Southwest College, Los Angeles City College, and West Los Angeles. He actually played football for West Los Angeles College as a wide receiver and returner.
Schoolboy Q had an interest in music when he was just in high school, writing songs when he was as young as sixteen. However, he didn’t really consider music to be a serious career path until he was around 21. In 2006, he started to work with Top Dawg Entertainment, a record label based out of Carson, California. Quincy collaborated with a few artists there, including Jay Rock and Ab-Soul. In 2008, he released the mixtape Schoolboy Turned Hustla, which is what allowed him to be signed by Top Dawg Entertainment in 2009. Around this time, Quincy became involved in a little feud with 40 Glocc, another West Coast rapper who apparently disrespected Quincy’s friend Tyga. Hanley’s second mixtape, Gangsta & Soul, featured a diss track that was aimed at 40 Glocc. This mixtape was actually the first thing that he would produce with Top Dawg.
After a couple of years of hard work, Quincy released his debut album as an iTunes exclusive in January of 2011. The album, titled Setbacks, admittedly didn’t do as well as you might think. This is mainly because of how unknown Hanley was at the time. The album ended up peaking at number 100 on the Billboard 200 chart. However, the release of Setbacks allowed Hanley to amass a little bit of a fan base online. More and more people knew who this guy was, and more and more people were starting to be really impressed by the work that he was putting out. Just a year after the release of Setbacks, Quincy released Habits & Contradictions, which was also an iTunes release. This album featured quite a few big name artists, including ASAP Rocky, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, and Jhené Aiko. Habits & Contradictions did better than its predecessor, but it admittedly didn’t set any records.
Over the next couple of years, Schoolboy Q seemed to put a much larger emphasis on collaborating with other artists. Although he had recently begun working on his commercial debut with Interscope Records, he was not going to rush himself on this next album. He supported ASAP Rocky during his national tour, alongside the likes of Danny Brown and ASAP Mob. He would also tour with Wiz Khalifa, Kendrick Lamar, and Mac Miller during the Under The Influence Tour around this same time. In June of 2013, Quincy released the track “Collard Greens”, the lead single of his upcoming album. Hanley also collaborated with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on the track “White Walls” for their album The Heist. This album would end up being nominated for a Grammy Award for Album of the Year. On top of all of that, one of his songs, “Man of the Year” would be featured on the soundtrack for the video game NBA Live 14. His major debut, Oxymoron, was released in February of 2014 to mass acclaim. it featured artists like Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chainz, ASAP Rocky, and Tyler, The Creator. It topped the Billboard 200 upon its release, and it was even nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2015 Grammy Awards.
With Oxymoron, I think that it’s safe to say that Quincy had struck gold. He had found major success in the music industry. However, he was not at all content to just sit by and be a one hit wonder. Two years after the release of this album, Top Dawg Entertainment announced that Schoolboy Q was going to be releasing another album in that year, which would prove to be true. Blank Face LP was released in July of 2016, and this one also featured some high profile names. This LP included guest appearances from the likes of Jadakiss, Vince staples, Kanye West, and Miguel. This album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, and like its predecessor, earned Hanley another Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Album. The track “THat Part”, which featured Kanye West, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Performance. Schoolboy Q started out small, but he embraced the grind, and he has since become a major success story in hip hop.

Quincy actually made headlines late last year when he spent a pretty penny on a mansion in Calabasas, California. The mansion is worth $3 million, and one look at the place shows you why it’s worth that much. The house has six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, all located in Mountain View Estates. The house features a wrought iron staircase, travertine floors, and a two-story foyer room. All in all, it’s a very glitzy house that is certainly deserving of the successful rapper who calls it his home.
