Hailing from Massachusetts, Aly Raisman most recently competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics, as a member of the “Final Five.” One of the most decorated gymnasts in the country, she has also won numerous medals at the National Championships, Pacific Rim Championships, and World Championships.
Raised in the town of Needham, her parents enrolled her in gymnastics when she was two years old. Shortly after advancing through Level 8, she joined the Brestyan American Gymnastics Club, where she received coaching from Silvia and Mihai Brestyan.
How Aly Raisman Became Famous
Ultimately, it was during the 2012 Summer Olympics that the younger gymnast garnered widespread attention. The captain of the “Fierce Five”, she not only contributed to the team’s gold medal but had also won a gold on the floor exercise.
That same year, she had also won the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise titles at the U.S. National Championships in St. Louis.
Aly Raisman’s Other Activities
Four years later, she competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. With that, she became one of the first American athletes to make it onto back-to-back Olympic gymnastics teams. After helping to win a gold medal in the team event, she earned two silver medals in the floor exercise and all-around events.
Aside from the Olympics in Rio, Raisman had also medalled at the National, Pacific Rim, and World Championships that year.
In fact, outside of gymnastics, she had even been invited to participate in the 16th season of Dancing with the Stars. Partnered with Mark Ballas, a two-time champion, she ultimately finished in fourth place.
Speaking of television appearances, she has also been featured in many talk shows such as The Ellen Degeneres Show, Good Morning America, Live with Kelly and Ryan, and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, to name a few.
